Yep.

It is, of course, a pipe dream, although I'm guessing Ottawa's going to be in the market for a new goalie next year. Stranger things have happened, but the Leafs look to be setting themselves up to make a run at some big free agents next summer.

I don't think they have room for him, do they? Emery is on his way, Prusek is there and Hasek could be good. Plus, they still need to reup Redden, Chara and Phillips.

Luongo's looking to be the only big name free agent next year, so the Leafs are obviously going to make a big play for him since Belfour will be done by the end of the year if not before that.

I'll be crossing my fingers, anyway.

Young players in Toronto???

This hasn't happened since the 70's when Harold Ballard decided to be cheap.

Luongo will go to Edmonton or St. Louis next year.

The Leafs have to get younger one of these days. No better place to start than it net. And since I said that, they'll probably sign Osgood, and Potvin to back him up.

The Lightning signed Andreychuk to a two year deal, unsure of the $$$. I'm tempted to make another "less money for Richards comment" but I don't want to start another day-long debate.

Why doesn't Andreychuk retire. it'll be the most logical move.

Unless Tampa wants a repeat for the cup, they aren't going to make it far in the 06 season.

Ahhhh, that's nothing moneywise. I retract my semi-smart ass comment about the Richards drama.

But still, signing a guy that's that old for 2 years is questionable. If they want him in the locker room that badly, make him an assistance coach.

Nl5 the 2nd year is for all intents and purposes an option year just in case he wants to play one more year after this one. If he retires and moves behind the bench for 06-07 his salary wont count against the cap and will probably be used to pay for most of Richards raise.

Free agent pickings are getting slim. Peter Bondra and Vincent Damphousse are the only really big names on the unrestricted lists that jumped out at me (discounting Mario Lemieux, of course).

Some recognizable goalies are still looking for work, though -- Byron Dafoe, Arturs Irbe, Felix Potvin, Freddy Brathwaite, Ron Tugnutt, Steve Shields and Roman Cechmanek are all still unsigned.

To show how atrocious the Bruins goaltending revolving door has been, 3 of those 7 goalies have worn the spoked B in the last few years (Dafoe, Potvin, Shields).

I don't miss any of them.

Why do you think that? Belfour is still a great goalie who is capable of putting on a Vezina performance. Despite some nagging injuries, he still plays full seasons and is in excellent condition for his age.

The club has a buyout option at the end of this season, and they'd be nuts to keep going with Belfour, who certainly doesn't have more than three seasons left in the tank, rather than thinking long-term and grabbing one of the three best young goalies in the league (Turco and Theodore being the others).

Shields is a serviceable backup. As is Braithwaite. Cechmanek gets a bad rap, I think.

Of course Dafoe seemingly played with a blindfold on most of the time.

So you're telling me that you'd keep Belfour over signing Luongo? If you say 'yes', you're a crazy person.

Belfour is good short term. If they could sign Luongo long term then that would be better since he is young and won't be retiring in a year or two. I feel Belfour is the better present goalie at the moment and is the best choice for the leafs. He has won a cup, has tons of playoff experience and is a definate hall of famer.

I had to moved the H2H draft from the 9th to the 8th, as I am leaving for a wedding a day earlier than I thought.

Still restricted.  He'll be a year too young and with one too few seasons in the league for UFA.

So anyone trying to just sign him next year will have to give up several picks. The Panthers should be able to get something decent for him next year, a pick and a solid player/prospects.

Byron Dafoe: How much is he asking? For a good price he might fit into some clubs that need a good goalie, with some defence.

Arturs Irbe: Best years are behind him, though I wouldn't be surprised so see a team like Edmonton or Boston taking a stab at him.

Felix Potvin: For some stupid reason, Toronto will sign him. Kidding Leaf fans, but he's questionable whether he can lead a team for a few victories.

Freddy Brathwaite Ron Tugnutt Steve Shields: None of them starters but maybe a team with a desparite Goalie situation could sign one of these goalies and have a rotation wise for the position.

Roman Cechmanek: Needs defence and needs to stop lollygaggin around the net at times.
