Guest Beastalentier Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Tina Fey is not Hillary Clinton's staff, and it was a term of endearment in its context, tantamount to if "Barack Obama's Saturday Night Live staff" said "Obama is our nigga!" Â "Barack Obama's staff at MSNBC" (curious how neither campaign can consolidate its power at the Rockefeller Center) is framing Ferraro's comment as being "Obama is only where he is because he's black" when the implication was closer to "white guilt is helping Obama." Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Anyone who thinks Obama hasn't been the target of racial slurs needs to look at Bill's behaviour in South Carolina, or that Kenyan picture, or Hillary's vague answer to whether or not he was a Muslim, or Joe Biden claiming how amazing it was that Obama was an african american who was 'articulate' and 'clean', and that Hussien thing Mccain had to apologise for. Guest Beastalentier Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Chuck Todd on MSNBC has a good point: Obama can't trumpet his unifying power quite so much after Mississippi when the blacks all went for Obama and the whites for Hillary, can he? Â I wonder if the rest of the channel will join Keith Olbermann, their leader of sorts, in calling for Ferraro's resignation.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I'm not sure anyone would want to trumpet anything pertaining to Mississippi.
Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I'd point to his victories in lily white states like Iowa , Wisconsin and Maine to argue that point. Â I think it's offensive for ferraro to say Obama is only where he is because of white guilt. Doesn't that just complelty try and diminish everything he's accomplished? 'Oh,your only here because people like the novelty factor.' How is that not racist?

Doesn't that just complelty try and diminish everything he's accomplished? 'Oh,your only here because people like the novelty factor.' How is that not racist? NOBODY IS SPEAKING IN ABSOLUTES. That's what you're not getting here. I saw no "only" in what I quoted. Did you? Or did you put it there? You cannot deny that the "novelty factor" plays no part in media coverage or "support of The Movement," which is what she's trying to say. The Obama side of the media is out of line in calling for Ferraro's resignation from the Clinton campaign. There's nothing there that warrants her stepping down. Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 He's young, handsome, a great talker, with a good message. Oh, yeah, and he was the only viable alternative to president Hillary. No wonder people have embraced him. Â Â Do I think race is factor in his popularity? Yes. But I would not, as Ferraro has said say ALL his success is because of that. Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 More fun from Ferraro....  http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/030..._flashback.html "If Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race," she said.  Really. The cite is an April 15, 1988 Washington Post story (byline: Howard Kurtz), available only on Nexis.  Here's the full context:  Placid of demeanor but pointed in his rhetoric, Jackson struck out repeatedly today against those who suggest his race has been an asset in the campaign. President Reagan suggested Tuesday that people don't ask Jackson tough questions because of his race. And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."  Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.  Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history."  Can anyone really argue this woman is not a racist?

No wonder people have embraced him.  Do I think race is factor in his popularity? Yes. But I would not, as Ferraro has said say ALL his success is because of that. If she said that, she'd be wrong, but she didn't say that.  "I was reading an article that said young Republicans are out there campaigning for Obama because they believe he's going to be able to put an end to partisanship," Ferraro said, clearly annoyed. "Dear God! Anyone that has worked in the Congress knows that for over 200 years this country has had partisanship - that's the way our country is." Man, I love old people. They may not make youtube blogs, but they get shit.  JESSE JACKSON'S ENTIRE EXISTENCE IS PREDICATED ON BEING BLACK. She's right about that too! That's the only reason anyone could've supported that dirty shakedown artist. You're really desperate to sell out the old guard of the Democratic Party if you're trying to nail somebody on bashing that fucking charlatan.

Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," Geraldine Ferraro told The Daily Breeze of Torrance, Calif   If she said that, she'd be wrong, but she didn't say that   The above quote is her saying Obama is only in this position because he's black. So, yes, she's ignoring everything else and focusing in on his skin colour. That's not racist? According to her, he's not in that position because he's charismatic, inspiring or intelligent. It's because he's black.

It's because he's black. You're reading the Imaginary Message Board or something. She hasn't discredited all of his successes, she's just saying that being black has certainly helped him reach the position he's in, which is far ahead of his opposition with the adoration of the press behind him. If he was a white guy, he wouldn't be as successful as he has been. This is just the case, is it not?
Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 If he was a white guy, he wouldn't be as successful as he has been. This is just the case, is it not? Â It's kind of hard to say. Generally highly intelligent people who go to Ivy League colleges and Harvard Law tend to do okay in life. I would say he would have done just fine if he was white. Unfortunately, I don't have a magical hypothetical-race-changing crystal ball.
RonL21 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I'm pretty sure he was referencing something else entirely. Oh. Maybe the Rock Song? Â Bingo. You know, Winger. I guess I should have made it more obvious. I remember the commercial back in the 90s for 80s rock songs for those old compilation cds. It use to come on all the time and that was one of the songs highlighted in yellow that always played. Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 No. Not helped. She said straight 'he wouldn't be in this position if he were white' i.e he's the the frontrunner because he's black. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I think it has more to do with his voice sounding like The Rock's than being black. If he sounded like Mike Tyson, there's no way in hell he's doing this well.
Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Obama would be in this position if he were white. Mainly because he's the best talker in American politics today. I find it hard to believe with his youth and oratory skills, he wouldn't have moved higher up the political chain anyway, even if he were white.
