snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Invader. You brought up the 'wholesome black' thing yourself. After we were already (again) dismissing race as an issue. We have already gone over, repeatedly, the qualities/experience that Obama brings to the table. You were, again, the only one to throw in the mindless 'hes black' bullshit. Why? I guess thats something for you to think about. And, when will the mods get around to pulling the plug on rayco?
Boon 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Obama running in 2008 would be a gigantic waste. The Democrats should win the next election hands down. They can run nearly anybody [except Hillary] and win. Why waste Obama now? That being said, I'm really looking forward to the Clinton/Obama ticket.

If he's elected, though, the NAACP never gets to talk about black Americans being kept down anymore.
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Maybe he is qualified, maybe he's not, but I think a lot of people are a bit wary because the first wave of the media blitz came through before he was even elected; he had just hit the national scene to give the keynote. If he hadn't gotten the star treatment like that until doing something notable in his Senate career, that'd be understandable, but when some guy is designated as The Next Big Thing before he's had any experience on a national level, or on the gubernatorial side of things, can't you see why people would be kind of suspicious? I don't think he's the worst the Democratic Party could do, by far, but this might be too early for him. Trying to be everything to everyone and waffling too much might hurt him, too. I think you hit the nail on the head about what I've been feeling. I mean, the night he was elected, everyone was non-stop babbling about how he was "the bright new shining star of the Democratic Party" when he had yet to really do anything on the national level. I guess that kind of hype just rubs me the wrong way. It's like when ESPN is constantly hyping some football player entering his senior year in college as a future NFL Hall of Famer, if that's a fair analogy. I'm willing to give the guy a chance, but I have to actually know what his positions are on the issues and such. A few nice speeches and a sparkly personality won't win me over. Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 This is pretty much his best chance to win a presidential election though. When he's been in the Senate for many, many years and he's put down votes on many issues, he has no way to craft his candidacy. If he tries to change a position on an issue or two to make himself a better candidate (don't be naive enough to think that every candidate doesn't do that; some just don't get caught), he gets nailed on voting another way on the issue, etc. Also, he'll never have the kind of media coverage he has now ever again. He's the hottest thing around right now, whereas in 10 years, when he'll be running for president next, he'll be 10 years older and that much less mysterious. It's a no-brainer for him to run at this point.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Ah, there's a Muslim senator now, he was sworn in on a Koran. Rolling Stone heralds this as a "positive for us" in their latest issue. Maybe some day he'll be elected president, and they can play "Imagine" on his way to the inauguration. Wouldn't that be keen?
EricMM 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Who gives a fuck who someone worships on Sunday, or Saturday, or Friday? Where the fuck do you get off saying that Ellison will let his Muslim faith affect his legislation any more than Bush let his Christianity effect his execution? In case you're myopic as well as foolish, Bush did, and his decisions based upon being a rightous crusader have been more damaging to this country than I imagine any Muslim American has ever done. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Barring a combination of catastrophe & miracle, a Democrat should win the Presidency in '08. Assuming that that person runs for reelection in 2012, and Obama chooses not to play the TeddyK/1980 role, he wouldnt have another chance until 2016. That would be the year he would also be running for his third full term in the Senate. Any guesses on who the last person to go from 2 full terms in the Senate to the Presidency is? Nobody. JFK was just beginning his second term when he commited to run for President, and had made a bid for Veep in '56...with roughly the same amount of Senate experience as Obama has now. JFK did not have the long resume of state legislature experience that Obama had coming into the Senate. Warren Harding was the first person elected President while a sitting Senator. He was in his first term. Elected in 1914, took office in 1915, won the Presidential election in 1920. "Buts hes a nice black man!"
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Those that STILL cant figure out how divergantly religion can look in politics (Invader) should look at JFK's 1960 campaign and his Houston speech primarilly then look at how he didnt allow his religion to influence any of the HUGE decisions he faced in office. Then, look at Bush Jr and how he fumbled American footballs left and right leaving our field a scattered mess of horrible decisions. Has Ellison worn a towel into Congress? Has he dropped his "How to make a bomb" literature on the elevator floor? Yes, Fox News tells us to hate Muslims. That's nice. Doesn't mean you have to believe all Muslims are out to kill White America, Invader.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Wow, you guys sure draw some big conclusions from one off handed comment I made. One comment? You've consistently brought up the 'Hes just a nice black boy' thing about Obama. Despite repeated posts showing how he is more experienced than at least half the people that have ever served as President...you continue to say the same retarded shit about the man's race. You can deny being a racist, that's fine, but your actions (posts) need to catch up with that opinion of yourself. Your dislike for Mexicans has been thouroughly covered here. By you alone. The Ellison thing just happened ON THIS PAGE. You brought it up yourself right out of the friggin blue, Mr Pink. I dont even think O Reilly/Hannity/Limbaugh are bringing this up anymore after Ellison dragged out Thomas Jefferson's Koran. Though I wouldnt be surprised if they, like you, are still trying to act like his election is some kind of doomsday moment.

Though I wouldnt be surprised if they, like you, are still trying to act like his election is some kind of doomsday moment. I think I mentioned Obama being black once. My comment was more about the media fawning over him than anything. I dislike illegal immigration, period. I have nothing against Mexicans who are here legally. I've been to Mexico before, and enjoyed in thoroughly. Everyone I met there was very friendly. The Ellison thing was brought up by someone else making a comment infering that "Muslims can't be president". I noted that a Muslim was recently elected to Congress (got the house wrong), and was simply noting how happy that should make all of you progressive liberals. I don't care if he's Muslim, Jew, or Christian if he does a good job. I don't know what the Koran being Thomas Jefferson's has to do with anything. Maybe someday we'll have a satanist sworn in on some of Ben Franklin's book collection, and we can all celebrate that. Geez.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 Do you think that if one were to go back throught this thread alone that there would be only one instance of Invader bringing up Obama's race? Nope. It's already happened before. Quite awhile ago. You got the same responses ridiculing for not understanding that he is no less experienced than most Presidents...and, yet, you still bring up his race. Then, when called on it yet again, you start Matt Youngin' it and try saying you were just talking about the media. Riiiight.
