iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 Florida's had talent for years. The only problem has been the Chris Leak has underachieved because he didn't do well in Zook's offense. Then, presto! Urban Meyer comes in, a man known for taking other people's talented quarterbacks and taking them to heights they've never seen. Honestly, he was made for this job. As for Tennessee, they're certainly look solid on paper, and their offense is nearly as talented as Florida's. However, Jason Allen's the only really good cover guy in their whole secondary, and I really could see the new spread Gator offense tearing it apart. Their front seven's probably better than Florida's, but on the whole I'd give the edge to the Gators. I know you like Phillip Fullmer, but I really don't think he's capable of what Urban Meyer is. He was in charge of the Vols squad that shouldn't have beaten Zook last year, whereas Meyer's coming in to turn around a bunch of underachievers. When you look at the improvement from last year to this year, I have to give Florida the edge.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 Coach Stoops would like to remind us all that Igg has a contract with the SEC and an agenda to follow. What.....I can't poke fun at stupid things my coach says?
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 Whoa! Too many responses at once! I guess the most fun one to respond too would be Porter's: 25. Boise State <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are either dumb or blinded, I can't decide which. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Come on. I said I was only really qualified for the Top 10 or so. I checked into the major conference teams during the summer, but I don't really know anything about who's coming back for Boise State other than Zabransky. They could easily be a team in the 16-20 range, I just put them in there as a rough guess.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 For the record, I go to a Pac Ten school, and my favorite team outside of that is in the ACC. When it comes to the SEC, I just respect how they play football.

Damn does nobody remember that press conference where he said that? I was slapping my face after he said it going "Come on Bob! Think!"

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 On an unrelated note has anyone ever run into those fans that think they know it all? I remember on Sunday when I was at OU practice I had these 2 old men standing behind me and they were saying things like: "What's he doing on the field? That guys not good." "I've heard about him! They should start him!"(guy they just praised gets beat) "Oh well he's a bum." "Does Stoops know what he's doing? You know what I'd do?" And just other various crap. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 No. The only conceivable one is NC State over Virginia Tech, and I don't think that'll happen either.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 I've got N.C. State in that game. I don't expect Vick to have it all together that early and that veteran defense on N.C. State is going to do some damage. I'm expecting another low scoring grind-out like last year's matchup. This one's in Raleigh, too. Also, Iggy's rankings are perfectly acceptable guesses, and no different from any other preseason silliness in that respect. I disagree with the placement of maybe 3 or 4 teams, which makes it not bad. As for Boise State: I dont deny that they're a very good team, but unless they can take 2 of their opening 3 (at Georgia, at Oregon State, vs. Bowling Green), I don't think they'll be able to prove that they're even top-15 material. No one in this year's WAC besides Fresno and Boise are worth a damn, and any good team can beat up on lousy squads week after week.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 I dunno, I wasn't real thrilled with Tennessee last year and I'll have to see them be awesome to believe it. These guys should have lost to friggin UK if not for Shane Boyd totally choking it away the last 5 mins. I repeat, they almost lost to KENTUCKY in football. Now that I say this, watch UK bust something out of their ass and beat U of L in the opener. If that somehow happens, restrain me from jumping off a high bridge. Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 I think Florida will beat Tennessee this year simply because of last year's game. That game seemed to derail the entire season for the Gators, outside of a win at Florida State. I thought Chris Leak played very well last year and he is only going to be better this year. But then again, the home team in this series has not had much luck, so you never know.

Auburn almost lost to.....ok well they didn't almost lose to anyone bad. But the point still is that he trend seems to be that good teams come out flat against bad ones. I wouldn't be shocked to see USC enter into another titanic struggle with a bad team this year and then spin around and blow someone like ASU out by 50. I'm sure glad that Igg's polls don't decide who goes where....one of the ones that does though has my Sooners firmly entrenched at 5. Where we'll probably end they year b/c we'll probably lose 1 game. I mean it's hard to argue with 1-4-4-3-3 as finishes and think they'll finish lower. There were just as many questions with the 2000 title team as there are this year. Then again I wouldn't be shocked to see us lose 2 games and finish at like 8. But out of the Top 10? Won't happen(hasn't happened since 2000 at least). Oh and something that makes me mad. SBC has now gotten their name attached to the Red River Shootout. It's now the "SBC Red River Rivalry". And it's the 100th year. The year we probably lose is the 100th game.....dammit!

LSU was by no stretch a bad team. I hold faith that we won't lose to Texas but realistically looking at it....... Although I heard someone tell me to be more worried about UCLA than Texas. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 If they beat OU they should go all the way. I'm not sold on Texas A&M yet. And I'm definitely not sold on this notion that Texas A&M could upset OU in Norman. First of all OU has lost 1 home game in 6 years. 2nd of all in all of A&M's trips to Norman in the Bob Stoops era they've been outscored 159-16. Now in College Station they've kept it close with the score being 103-96 including beating a powerful OU team that won the Rose Bowl in 2002. But they aren't in College Station this year. That's why I don't buy into the A&M in Norman hype.

JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Who does everyone think will lead college football in rushing this year? I would have to say Adrian Peterson. Oklahoma lost some important pieces on the offensive side of the ball, so I think Adrian Peterson will be called on more times than he was last year and I have no reason to doubt he should answer the call every single game. Secret Agent 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Yeah, but more teams might be stuffing the box to try and prevent the Adrian Peterson run which would open up a beautiful passing game if one of the new QB's want's to step up and show his stuff off.

He'll see 8 men in the box a lot this season. But 71% of his nearly 2,000 yards last season were after contact.

Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 As much as it pains me to say it, Michael Hart has a good chance to be the leading rusher, that dude is a badass. Rushing behind the traditionally strong UofM o-line doesn't hurt either.

He had Freshman phenom written all over him as did Chad Henne but they came on the scene the same year as Adrian Peterson. Most of them make you look like a mild OU fan. MSU fans hate Michigan fans more than we hate Michigan. Especially considering that 90% of the UofM fans that I have met have never, and will never, be enrolled there. For one, DeAngelo Williams got hurt in his bowl game last year and may not be 100% this season. My choice is Jamario Thomas, a sophmore at North Texas. North Texas only plays one top-tier team this year, LSU. The rest of their schedule includes a down Kansas State team as well as OK mid-major teams like Tulsa, Troy, and Middle Tennessee State, before getting to the true crap like Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, and Arkansas State. Given that Thomas rushed for 1800 yards last year, despite having games against Texas (Rose Bowl champs), Colorado (Big 12 North champs), and Southern Miss (Perennially one of the best defenses in the country), he should have a field day against some of the crap teams on their schedule.
