College Football is almost back

Recommended Posts

The Tommy Grady era at OU is officially over as he announced today that he will transfer.....he's hoping to USC......BWAHAHAHA. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

It's been obvious since the Summer that we didn't need him and he wasn't going to be the starter.

As far as which Manning was screwed the implication was Peyton of course. I don't think anyone would argue that Eli was really screwed, though I'd take him over Jason White any day (even in college, it's just Ole Miss wasn't good enough).

The problem I had with Woodson is that he had about 5 or 6 big plays that were highlight reel quality but it's not really enough to warrant the Heisman. Give him defensive player of the year honors or whatever and that's it.

While we're on this subject, Danny Woeful lost to FSU in 1996 but still won the Heisman.

While we're on the subject of a defensive player winning the Heisman....do you guys think it's right? Or do you think the Heisman should be for primarily offensive players?

With few exceptions (i.e. interceptions, sacks, and fumble recoveries), it's hard to quantify a defensive player's key contributions. Offensive players will get most of the glory in a numbers-driven world. I have no real problem with that.

God damn I'm getting excited. 2 weeks from this Saturday. I have my season tickets and I'm ready to go.

I'm really excited to see if the defense has gotten better from that atrocious secondary we had last year.

Venables claims this is the best front 7 he's ever had and Bobby Jack Wright is a loud in your face secondary coach that emphasizes physical and intimidating defense over the finesse stuff of Bo Pelini. He's reminding everyone here of Mike Stoops....which we need.

God damn this is going to be good. Our first test is in Pasadena against UCLA....UCLA is soft against the run so I'm expecting AD to have a breakout game.

Our first real danger game where we could lose is in the Cotton Bowl but I'm ready for the shorthorns.

Come on everyone! I don't care who you're a fan of: USC, Virginia, Virginia Tech, LSU, Alabama, Texas, Kansas State, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Tennessee, whatever! Two weeks till your teams take the field!

I would probably be a little more excited if my team wasn't taking the field against Western Michigan. The starters will be out by the middle of the 3rd quarter. And it's murderous on my fan mindset that UVA starts with a cupcake, then has a bye week immediately thereafter. The first game against a real team (Syracuse, which might be a stretch for that category) isn't til September 17.

Of course, none of this is going to prevent me from decking out in orange, tailgating for 4 hours before kickoff, and being overjoyed when the game starts.

Hey my first game is against fucking TCU and the second one is against Tulsa so it's not like the first two weeks are going to be anything challenging or exciting for OU....but it's still football!

Of course my team also got blown out 55-19 and graduated like 12 starters so....it's a little bit more interesting for me to see how they come out and who replaces who and how they play.

I mean it's not that I'm worried. I'm not thinking we're going to win a National Title or anything or even go to the game but I mean our 2000 team was our least talented and most unknown team.

I am very excited for September 3rd. I know that Wyoming will be no walk in the park but I am very excited to see how Chris Leak and the rest of the offense reacts to the new Spread-Offense. After Wyoming, its Louisiana Tech which is a nice practice game to get some experience for the September 17th game which may be the biggest of the year for Florida.

Some interesting things I learned about OU this year.

This will be the first year that a Ferguson is not punting for OU under Bob Stoops. We've had the brothers Jeff and Blake punting for us since 99.

Also this is the first year OU will be using a QB not from Bob Stoops original recruiting class. All of our previous starters: Josh Heupel, Nate Hybl, and Jason White were recruited before Bob's first year.

Yay Auburn!

Interesting fact: Tight end Cooper Wallace outweighs every projected starter on Auburn's defense except for the nose guard and defensive tackle. He's 265. Hell, wide receiver Anthony Mix (Who I really, really like. He's like Matt Jones if Matt Jones was always a receiver.) can pretty much make that claim, though there might be an end or two who's about 248 as well. The defense is going to be fast, or at least, it better be, because slow undersized players won't work too well.

I've got high hopes for the receivers, so long as the QB is decent. Go Courtney Taylor, Ben Obamanu, Devin Aromashadu, Other Guy With Weird Name, and the aforementioned Mix!

Yeah...stuff...and other things.

Also: Since I was born and then grew up in El Paso and Hattiesburg (Well, the suburb), respectively, go UTEP and USM! When I was about ten, Jeff Bower came into my class and signed autographs, but I'd just moved to MS, and I didn't have a clue who he was. One of his daughters was in my graduating class (And is a cheerleader for the Eagles.) before I moved to Auburn. So, yeah...

Oh man. On a local station they're playing the 1984 OU/OSU game complete with OSU wearing mid-drift jerseys, OU wearing see-through mesh jerseys tucked into their hip pads, and Barry Switzer in a red OU polo, red tight slacks, and white boots.

The 80's was a uniform disaster in college football apparently.

This is for Dama if he hasn't heard about it already, Oklahoma is going to play a home-and-home with Miami in 2007 and 2009. The first game is in Norman and te second one is in the Orange Bowl.

I have heard it. I believe aside from Texas and possibly Nebraska(not sure on that one) Miami is the only major program in college football that OU doesn't have a .500 or better record against.

Oh and we're also going to having a visit from Notre Dame, a home and home series with FSU and LSU in the near future.

Wow so that was their first post-season meeting? Well I guess the Pac 10 and Big 8 never really traditionally met in post season action before the BCS.....well the top teams at least.

The AP poll is out. I'm too lazy to post it but everyone can guess who 1 and 2 are.

OU is 7 in this poll and I'm happy with that. I think it's more realistic than 5 and we continue our streak of not falling out of the Top 10. Now how many more years do we have to finish in the Top 5 to beat FSU? We've got 5 years of consecutive Top 5 finishes so far.

His excuse for Louisville was something like "They have the best chance to go undefeated b/c of the schedule."

Yeah I know.....OU has 9 more years to catch FSU...with Bob Stoops at the helm it's possible but I won't count on it.

I don't think U of L's schedule is all that easy really. It's not like being in the SEC or anything but here it is:

UK (this should be cake but who knows with rivalries).

Oregon St. (glad this one is at home...do they still have that crappy kicker?).

South FL (should win this, but they did beat us two years ago).

FL Atlantic (squash, this is Schnellenberger's coming home game).

UNC (might be pretty decent though we killed em last year)

WVU (this is on the road and a possible loss)

Cincy (we'll beat the shit out of them)

Pitt (very tough game, thankfully at home)

Rutgers (dunno much about them, should be them fairly handily here)

Syracuse (they could be pretty decent, but should be a win)

UConn (on the road this might be a possible ambush)

Basically I'd just like U of L to go about 9-2 and make the BCS for the first year in the Big East. I figure at WVU is the best chance at a loss, and maybe one like Pitt or UConn.

I don't know how many times this needs to be said, but he is not a crappy kicker.

To anyone who's interested:

Come join my college pick'em league now in it's second year! The Xtreme College Football League (XCFL) had a great year last year with twelve teams competing fiercly to be declared league champion. Here are some of the features of this years league:

*A weekly "top 25" poll that will rank the teams in the league based on performance. ALL MEMBERS of the league can vote, so make your voice heard!

*A playoff system at the end of the year, probably splitting the league into two brackets, one for 'winners' (top part) and one for 'unfortunates' (bottom part). The winners will play for a 'national championship' while the unfortunates will play for a 'consolation championship' to heal their wounds from a brutal season.

*Unique matchups and storylines throughout the year. You will never play a team twice if the maximum numbers of team in the league is met in the regular season. Also, each game after the several weeks of the season will have a brief description of what is on the line.

To join here is the info:

Hope to see you there!

Kingofthe909, I did hear that Oregon St. kicker didn't miss anything the rest of the season...but let's face it, what does anyone remember about the guy? His 3 missed PATs vs. LSU that single handedly cost them that game.
