Slickster 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 Christian beating Booker T for the IC Title at a house show in August '03 was unexpected. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Booker T suffered a back injury, so they had to 'go home' fast.
Slickster 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 Here's an obscure one I found out about a year or two back. Terry Funk won the U.S. title at a house show in the late summer/early fall of 2000 against Lance Storm in his hometown of Amarillo, Texas and ya know, I'm not even sure if WCW even bothered job the title off of Funk on a later house show. Like the say, if it didn't happen on TV, it didn't happen. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was pretty much a one night thing since they were in Funk's hometown of Amarillo. He dropped the strap back to Storm the next night in Lubbock. The title change was not mentioned on WCW television.
zyn081 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 Eddie Guerrero beating Brock Lesner <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is this really surprising, since it was obvious they where building up for Brock-Berg at WMXX and this was there last chance for Brock to drop the title. Team Angle Pusher 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 Road Warrior Animal & Heidenreich winning the WWE Tag Team Titles. MNM is like the future of the tag team division and they just put the Heidi/Animal team together. I thought they were having Animal appear to promote his DVD but I guess he's staying for a while. Ron Simmons as WCW Champion. Love that. Big Show beating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title at Survivor Series 2003 with help from Paul Heyman. I didn't expect Heyman to turn on Lesnar that fast, I thought it would happen around WrestleMania and like a month earlier Big Show was jobbing to midcarders. Si82 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 People have already mentioned Diesel beating Bob Backlund for the WWF Title at MSG. However, I thought Backlund beating Bret for the title was unexpected. I just couldn't believe Backlund had the title. Granted, he didn't have it for long but it still surprised me.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 "The Giant beating Ric Flair for the title on Nitro in 1996" I don't know how surprising it was to me, considering they did the match earlier in the year, with Giant winning by DQ. They wouldn't do the same finish, IMO. Just my thoughts going into it. Of course, that episode (with Giant winning the title) was taped, so many knew what happened. MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Eddie Guerrero beating Brock Lesner <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is this really surprising, since it was obvious they where building up for Brock-Berg at WMXX and this was there last chance for Brock to drop the title. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was more "I can't believe the really put the title on Eddie Guerrero". That was such a great moment. Cause every near fall for Eddie I was like "Yeah right, he wont win", then when he hit the frogsplash "I was waiting like...yeah. yeah...WTF?" lol
Team Angle Pusher 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 If Jericho or JBL wins at Summerslam...THAT will be unexpected.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 ^^ Correct. Did anyone read that Raw recap link earlier from the last month of the Invasion where it went from simply bad to some of the worst shit ever? Holy fuck, the first month of the storyline was actually pretty fucking awesome in retrospect.
TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Both of The Truth's NWA Title wins were completely left field for me. The first time, they had really just started pushing him. When they made the match a week after his killer promo with Ricky Steamboat, I thought he'd given Shamrock a run for his money to make him seem like a contender and then cheat to win a rematch. It was clear that Shamrock's time as champ was running out because people weren't responding to him (which was more the booking) and after that promo with Steamboat, I knew Truth would win it eventually, but I didn't think he'd drop it that soon. The second time was even more shocking. They were a couple of weeks away from debuting on FSN and everyone knew Jarrett was getting the title back before they did, but he wasn't in the match (it was AJ Styles, Chris Harris, Raven and the Truth), so I just assumed that AJ was retaining. Also, Truth had been away from the ME for a year, chasing the tag titles with the 3 Live Kru. The change was shocking because I don't think anyone who regularly followed TNA saw it coming (though everyone knew it wouldn't last more than a week). TNA had hotshotted the tag titles and X Division titles, but other than those, they built up all there world title changes. Others that shocked me: D'Lo over HHH on Raw Kane over Austin at KotR '98 (I thought they'd have Kane lose and then have Bearer find a loophole out of the burning stip) Rock in the Deadly Game tourney (not necessary that he won, but that he won as a heel. Even though he never officially turned, he was so hot as a face that the turn was shocking to me)
