Dusty Rhodes on Byte This!

August 10, 2005

This week on Byte This!, former World Champion Dusty Rhodes revealed that he is close to signing with World Wrestling Entertainment in a creative role.

- On Byte This!, Dusty called in to confirm that he is in talks and that they have agreed to talk again. He is signing into the Legends program, would like to come in and work a non-televised match against Ric Flair one last time, and he looks forward to meeting with WWE again and possibly working with the young minds and veterans on the WWE creative staff. He said "I like making movies, and I look at what WWE does as a big movie," made mention of Starcade and how he'd love to have the opportunity to work on next year's Great American Bash behind the scenes creatively.

Joe Hitchin, known on the indie circuit as Joe E. Legend and briefly in WWE as Just Joe, interviewed with Slam! Canada recently about a number of topics. Two notable quotes:

"I hated my time with the WWE. I loved the money while I was there, I loved the travel while I was there, but beyond that, I hated it. I thought it was very snakey, very backstabbing -- when you see these interviews and these guys are going on 'Oh it's such a family atmosphere, it's my dream job.' Most of them hate it, most of them, when you talk to them with the camera and microphone off, are not happy and I can't blame them."

"I went out, I cut a promo, it got over like crazy -- I had the crowd exactly where I wanted them. Afterwards they came to me 'Don't do that anymore.' I go out there and do a decent move, 'Don't do that anymore. We want you to punch and kick.'"

In other WWE news, Mike Johnson is also reporting that WWE is close to purchasing the St. Louis Wrestling library owned by Larry Matysik, containing about 40 hours of footage from the latter part of the territory.

On his Web site, Tatanka posted the following rumor-killer about his rumored WWE deal: "Lastly I would like to say that my appearance at WWE went very well and that I'm currently speaking with WWE in reference to Tatanka appearing full time on the roster of the WWE. At the proper time I will release the news of our meetings according to the direction of the officials of WWE. I know the WWE office would appreciate hearing from you and your friends in reference to this past "Monday Night Raw" at the Mohegan Sun Casino and my return!"

PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson is reporting that 20th Century Fox and WWE Films will be holding industry screenings of WWE Champion John Cena's The Marine in the near future. Taking place in LA, these screenings will gauge audience reactions of the $15 million feature film. John Bonito, known for directing the commercials for Arena Football League's big 2004 ad campaign, is making his feature film directorial debut with this movie, which also stars Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) and Kelly Carlson (Nip/Tuck).

On her new Web site RenaMero.net, former WWE star Sable has stated the below comments on a potential return: "As far as going back to the WWE goes, I just don't see it happening, at least at the moment. I was fed up with a lot of things right before I parted ways with the WWE. If everything was right, I would consider it, but I just don't see it happening right now." Sable was in a relationship with Brock Lesnar upon his departure from WWE last year, and left around the same time.

Makers of Stacker 2, NVE Pharmaceuticals, filed for bankruptcy protection due to more than 100 wrongful death lawsuits and injury lawsuits. They were spending up to $400,000 a month in legal fees, and owe WWE $2.5 million in ad and talent costs.

ECW founder Tod Gordon is in talks with Canada's ECW Press to write an expose book about the rise and fall of ECW. He will apparently focus heavily on the "sex, drugs, and rock n roll" lifestyle that ECW became known for. [PWInsider.com]
