snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Don King promotes a show that should be free at a cost of $39.95 this Saturday. -Hasim Rahman(40-5) vs Monte Barrett(31-3) for a 'interim' heavyweight belt. Winner is supposed to fight Vitali next. -Ricardo Mayorga(27-5) v Michele Piccirillo(44-2) for a 154lb belt. -Oliver McCall(44-8) v Przemyslaw Saleta(42-6) in a ten round matchup of heavyweights outside the top-25. -Luis Collazo(25-1) v Miguel Angel Gonzalez(49-4). Collazo makes his first defense of wba welterweight title against a guy who was world champion nearly ten years ago and hasnt had a legitimate major win since 1995. Any predictions/thoughts on this thrilling extravaganza?

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Which cable company is the sponsor for this Showtime, HBO, ESPN? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Showtime is televising it but I think Don King has all the money behind it.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I'm mildly interested in the Rahman fight, the Mayorga fight and the McCall fight but I wouldn't pay anything to watch them. The Oliver McCall fight interests because isn't this the same Oliver McCall that started crying in the ring? Looking at his boxrec profile, McCall has only lost one fight since losing to Lennox Lewis (Granted the one fight he lost was against DaVaryl Williamson and he's beaten a bunch of nobodies.). Still if he can win a fight on a high profile PPV, Don King may find that to be enough to put him in another big title match against Chris Byrd or John Ruiz *shudder* Speaking of ripoff PPVs, next weekend, Ray Mercer is fighting Shannon Briggs on PPV for $30. I might pay for that.....if it were 1995. Granted, David Tua and Jameel McCline are on the undercard in separate bouts but nevertheless....any PPV main evented by two ten years past their primes boxers isn't worth squat. Whoops, just read that Mercer Vs Shannon Briggs wasn't the main event. The main event was actually an IBF Cruiserweight title match. Like I'd pay $30 for that..... and the immortal Lance "Mount Goofi" Whitaker is also on the undercard along with some undefeated middleweight prospect. Still nothing to pay $30 although Lance Whitaker was involved in one of my favorite boxing memories of all time.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Yes, Oliver McCall was the guy that started crying...it was during his second fight with Lewis.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 This card screams to be free on cable....PPV? WTF
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 On paper it is possibly the worst fight card ever for ppv. Some of the fights might end up being good, especially the mainevent, but charging anything more than $20 for this is pathetic. Its shitty cuz Rahman is one of my favorite fighters and I would have bought this if it was part of an 'ensemble card' of main events like Don King had been doing lately. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 Apparently the undercard has already had an exciting, brutal 'world' title fight....untelevised, of course.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2005 McCall won by knockout in the 4th....my guess - He fights John Ruiz for a 'world' titlebelt next.
