spman Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I picked this up on impulse today. I hated the first with a passion, mostly due to the entirely too short and too linear story mode which I completed in less them a day. I'm glad to say that the story mode here seems longer, and it's no longer linear, whether you win or lose the match, the story continues. Gameplay is pretty much the same as before, no change there. The CPU is just as rediculously cheap though. While it may take you a full thirty seconds of pounding the A button in order to get your wrestler back on his feet even at the beginning of the match, but the CPU always seems to be able to pop back up in an instant. The AI is also all over the palce in regards to the matches. There's been times when I've been able to pin guys in under 30 seconds with a roll up. Other times, I can squash a guy and take zero offense for 10 minutes, hit my finisher three timers in a row, and they'll still manage to kick out, get one cheap reversal, hit their finisher, and pin me. Cage matches in particular are outrageously difficult, your stamina level has to be all the way up in order for you to even have enough enegery to climb over the cage, and even then 9 times out of 10, your opponent will still get up in time to knock you off. Of course, all it takes for them is a quick finisher, and they can climb the cage in half the time it takes you, but I digress, I'd rather have the CPU be a challange then a cakewalk. Overall, I'd give the game maybe an 8 out of 10. The gameplay is the best of the three console games, they just need to work on balancing the AI a little more, there's a fine line between "challanging" and "unfair", and I think this game sometime borderd a little to far towards the latter.
Aero Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I decided to buy it when I was at the mall earlier since I haven't played any new games since November. I went to EB Games, GameStop, KB Toys, Sam Goody, FYE, Sears, and Boscovs... all sold out or didn't get it in yet (FYE, KB). For those who say reserving a game is pointless, at Gamestop, the guy told me that in addition to the reserved ones, the store got one extra copy, which sold quickly.
CheesalaIsGood Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I nabbed the last copy at the Gamestop I went to. They gave me a free poster too! I'll never hang it anywhere (its of the box cover) but hey free shit is good shit. Been playing it. So far I really don't have too much of a problem as I add more attributes as I move along the story. The cage match I had was really easy for me. Don't know what the problem was, but it all worked out. The crowd sounds are kind weak compared to last years. Whenever there is a chant the thin sounding chant kinda makes the background crowd sound quiet.
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I , DrVenkman, declare this to be the official thread as I don't like the other one. Anyhow, I rented it today from one of the few video stores in the city that got the game on time and I've been enjoying it. First thing I wanted to do was go into the CAW mode and listen to Master's theme and thankfully I could... damn WM21 for being so stingy on that sort of thing. Anyway I played a bunch of exhibition matches because I did not feel like putting the time into a CAW for Story mode yet. The first match I booked was the Smarks dream match: Masters and Kenzo vs. Snitsky and Heidenreich. Fun stuff, I enjoyed it. I don't quite get the submission system though... the instructions make zero mention of it (nice) so I just go by what it says on screen. I gather if the opponent guesses which decision you make, the move is broken, which is fine, but I noticed that even when I selected "Rest Hold" the submission meter was going towards "Give Up"... and I wasn't pressing anything. Then if I applied it again, no meter or choices came up at all, just a victory. I loved playing as Hassan and seeing a "MODIFIED STO" sign in the crowd... must be a deal where the signs are set to include finisher names whether they sound too stupid for a sign idea or not.
Scroby Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I , DrVenkman, declare this to be the official thread as I don't like the other one. Oh you suck! ehh fine, fine.....since your all posting in here anyways...YOU ALL SUCK FOR THAT! But yeah...I'm enjoying the game as well, I haven't gotten that far because I've been working on building a CAW...it took a while.
Guest JebusNassedar Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 It is utterly impossible to make Necro Butcher. What the hell. Are bushy beards and bald spots so hard to make? I also had to use the paint tool for the Choose Death shirt. It didnt turn out well.

Too much anger or craziness. The EB Games near me expects some copies in later today, so I'll probably pick one up later.
Scroby Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 It was late and i was tired, thats why it came off like that...but yeah oh well.
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 My old enemy from the original DoR, Mandatory Win Tag Matches, is back with a vengeance. The game was fun while it lasted.
Kapoutman Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I always used the Hogan leg drop to KO opponent's ion the first one. Tag matches were a breeze.
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Yeah I decided to to just KO Edge. Some tag matches I'm fine with but for some reason the particulat battle with E&C seemed more difficult. It's very sad that whoever wrote the story for this game does a much better job with the Hassan character in terms of his motivations and responses to people than the real WWE did.
Aero Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I picked it up yesterday. I never played the first DOR, but I did play WM XIX, so I'm mostly used to the controls. So far, I've only had a few exhibitions. First match was Shelton (me) vs. Masters, whose entrance is perfect. Next, it was London (me) vs. Carlito. I completely forgot about the stamina meter, so by the end of the match, after every single move I did, London would be weary, which allowed Carlito to just hit his finisher on me (Orton's Overdrive, I believe?). So far, so good.
Masked Man of Mystery Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Oooooh, London's in there, does he have the tassles and are they rendered well?
Aero Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 No tassles for London, which is good, because I think he ditched the tassles a few weeks ago. He has his light blue attire with vest for his entrance, which has the giant stomping and then run down the aisle. Dropsault is included as well.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 God, this one match is just impossible to do. A Fatal Four Way Escape Only Cage match?! Against HBK and Kane and Christian?!
The Niggardly King Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 You need to get a Special, and just hit everyone with it. Has to be a quick finisher too. And make sure your stamina is near the top and that your spirit is in bright red. You should be able to win the match after ten minutes.
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 THat cage match was difficult but I did it my first try (is it mandatory?). I didn't even need to Special all 3 guys, I just german suplexed one guy into the other two. They were red damage so I hurried up the cage and thankfully escaped. For some reason, the difficulty really amped up at Survivor Series. My opponents coutnered almost everything.
ChrisMWaters Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 One thing I found interesting with the game is the fact that they used the dark, brooding Mankind theme for Mankind insted of the one he's used, except when Cactus Jack or at ECW ONS, since he won the WWF title the first time. Small continuity question...how stupid must they have made Bischoff and others to not bother to not check everyone's locker-rooms for the missing World Heavyweight Title belt OH! And here's a way to gain pretty much unlimited attribute points! In that tournament you have before the Royal Rumble, win your first two matches. Then in the third match, quit. You'll keep the attributes you got from the first two matches, and can gain them again. Keep doing this until you want to move on.

I found it odd that Rock, in his 1998-ish look, has his 2003 titantron video while Mankind, in his 1999 gear, has his 1996 tron.
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Rumble = too hard. The computer has the "Us vs. You" logic and triple teams you on elimination, but if you try to eliminate one of them, you get attacked. Guess I'll try again later.
LJSexay Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 so how's the game lookin', in comparison to the PS2 and the XBox wrestling games? also, how is it compared to WMXIX (last cube wrestling game I played)?

With my method, you gain attributes from the first two matches you compete in, and can repeat. Each time I got about 100 Attribute points from beating Chavo and Heidenreich, then quit in the match with JBL before it even started, added the points, repeat process for however long I want.
DangerousDamon Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I was playing the story mode match against Edge and I beat him in 17 seconds with an Axe Guilltone Driver. I could not stop laughing at that.
Aero Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I only started the story mode yesterday. Single matches are fine, but tag matches can be near impossible. Me & Jericho vs. HHH & Flair. It went about 28 minutes, and it ended when HHH KO'd me with a Pedigree. Every pin or submission finisher is automatically broken up by the partner. Any time I did my finisher to Flair and then knocked HHH off the apron, I went back over to pin Flair and got one counts. This was Normal difficulty, by the way.
CheesalaIsGood Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I was stuck on the fatal four way cage at summerslam. Now I am stuck in a cage with Big Show who just SMOTHERS me. I hate cage matches.
JJ Johnson Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I have it on easy, and I still can't beat that damn cage match. It's always time limit draw.
CheesalaIsGood Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 I have it on easy, and I still can't beat that damn cage match. It's always time limit draw. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pretty much it goes how everyone else on the net as said. Change your move to a Stunner or an RKO, and after some pounding, hit all three of them with the finisher. You might even do well to save up an extra special just in case. BY that time your stamina should be good and your meter should be red. So climb climb climb.
