Yeah, Bonnar's the biggest name coming off his TUF fame, but they still have a good card. Perhaps they can move Diaz/Sanchez up.

I think they should go Diaz/Sanchez because of Sanchez visibility as a TUF winner, but I would love to see Sherk/St. Pierre.

Not the end of the world. Tanner/Louiseu is the main event anyway. They could get someone else to fight Irvin (maybe another TUF alum like Hoger as suggested), and they still have Chris Leben and Josh Koscheck in featured fights.

A little more to report from the Observer site...

I know it's mystifying with the lack of promotion, but Spike TV just sent out a press release for the 10/3 UFC special at 9 p.m. only listing Evan Tanner vs. "high-flying" David Loiseau in the main event as well as Chris "The Crippler" Leben vs. Edwin Dewees and Josh Koscheck vs. Drew Fickett. They also announced yet another counter. At 7 p.m., they will air UFC Unleashed, to get a 55 minute jump on Raw. That will feature Andrei Arlovsky vs. Vladimir Matyushenko and Forrest Griffin vs. Bill Mahood. For the 8 p.m. hour that was scheduled originally for Unleashed, they will air Ultimate Knockouts. High flying? Not sure that's a good nickname for a fighter. The Crippler is only funny for its total unabashed copying of the WWE wrestler with the same first name

--USA Network has changed the start time of Raw from 7:55 p.m. next week back to 8 p.m. The 7:55 p.m. was only to get the jump on UFC, scheduled for an 8 p.m. start. When Spike added another hour of UFC starting at 7 p.m., USA had no more WWE programming to add because four hours live is overkill, so I don't think there is any retaliation left.

At the very least, everyone willing to give UFC (or who wants to make an impact because of the quality of RAW) a try should catch one of the earlier shows.

I guess it's funny that Heyman ripped off Ray Stevens on Benoit's behalf also then :bonk: . Imean, is anyone surprised they changed his moniker from "TheCatSmasher"? Hardly a name that'll keep PETA off their back. Loiseau uses jumping kicks and elbows, obviously he's not a "high flyer" in the sense of Rey Mysterio Jr but I don't think any actual pro athletes have turnbuckles to jump off. Besides that, it's a description, anyone with MMA knowledge knows that Loiseau is nicknamed "The Crow".

Meltzer really needs to realise US MMA and US Pro Wrestling are not linked like puro and Japanese MMA, he'd make less of an ass of himself if he did.

considering UFC was on with WWE as a lead in and its ratings rise and fall with the ebb and flow of wwe's ratings (just look this week), doesn't anyone think that this "war" might just be the weeding out of another possible competitor and business as usual?

For me, WWE is entertainment. UFC is sport, and as a sport i'll stick with my football, basketaball and such. i'm not even predipsosed to stop watching wrestling to watch it.

and TNA at 11 is wrestling at 11 which i want no part of.

im missing why this is going to be such a "War", i guess

Because for some reason people think that if you like watching wrestling that automatically means you'll like watching Ultimate Fighting as well, even though they're nothing alike.

I guess it's because they both target the same demographic.

Same reason that MNF vs. WWE is a war. It is a war to get ratings, and revenue for your product. The fact that WWE is leaving the station that is rolling out the heavy promotion for WWE's newest competition adds to it.

Myself, I think WWE will get a significantly higher rating than UFC on 10/3, and Impact might make a move a year or more down the line. However, the actual "war" that McMahon will be watching is whether or not he loses or gains any viewers week to week. He will not get a lower rating than UFC, but his ratings might take a big dent because of them.

i predict the opposite, that ufc will do worse because the lead in for them (WWE) will keep its audience and UFC won't have this new built in audience to replace them.

UFC averages a good 1.6 with or without WWE as a lead-in (Unleashed or specials included). The question is if having direct competition will hurt them?

I honestly don't know whether or not it will succeed, but like most fans, I'm hoping for MMA to be pushed into the mainstream sport it deserves to be rather than a niche market. I think it's possible and the UFC could be a major league sport to the "minor leagues" like KOTC and WEC, but it will take awhile. Especially with Dana White in charge, the guy seems to take things way too personally and seems to make dumb moves sometimes, that might hurt business. Of course look where he's taken the UFC since obtaining it, so maybe my criticism is unwarranted.

How is that the opposite of what I predicted? I never said TUF's ratings would go up. I said WWE would have a much higher rating than the UFC show it is going against, but splitting the demographic will bring Vince's average rating down a little.
