Smackdown spoilers

I didnt' arrive in time for the dark matches, only for the opening of

Smackdown.

Starts out with Benoit vs. Jordan....inteference by Booker T & Christian.

Teddy Long turns the match into a tag.

Booker T and Chris Benoit def. Orlando Jordan and Christian

Animal and Heidenreich def. MNM

GM Long and the Network guy announce Eddie Gurrero as the #1 Contender for

the world championship. He tells Batista that he respects him and that they

are going to be best friends. Eddie goes for a handshake, and Batista

says,"friends don't shake hands....they hug," they embrace for a hug as

Eddie looks bewildered

Randy Orton and Orton are seen with a U-Haul, saying it will guarantee his

victory

Ken Kennedy gets a ton of heat when he asks what that smell is on Josh

Matthews, and he says it doesnt smell like cologne, but like Arkansas. This

got the crowd really worked up.

Ken Kennedy beats unnanounced wrestler (bald guy with black and blue tights

- didn't recognize him) with his usual finisher. Crowd was really into this

guy. He got more of a reaction than expected.

Nunzio complains about not being on the show even though he is the champ, so

the network guy (with help from Eddie Gurrero) makes a match with Nunzio vs.

Batista

Rey Mysterio def. JBL when JBL missed the clothesline from hell and Mysterio

did a spash off the ropes for the pin

JBL recruits Julie? (girl with burn on her face) to join his team.

Undertaker vs. Randy Orton is the main event. During the match, Bob Orton

backs a U-HAUL up to the ring, opens it, and rolls a casket out. Match goes

long. Both men are out by the casket, and it opens up to reveal a lifelike

Undertaker laying dead in the casket. This really was disturbing to the

crowd, and to me personally. Match goes back and forth, ref bump, RKO on

Undertaker, Bob orton brings out a ref and they count but Undertaker kicks

out. Undertaker pins Randy with a chokeslam. Then gives Orton a tombstone,

revies the original ref. and gets the pin.

Half these matches have already happened on Smackdown already with opening match occuring not two months ago and MNM vs. LOD happening just last week.

Am inrigued by Nunzio vs. Batista, though best I can tell it didn't happen at this show.

I see they're doing the single match <-> tag match occurance at the same damned taping.

Batista REALLY sucks. They took the worst parts of Brock Lesnar's face run circa 2003, mixed that with horrible humor and the worst thing is? We don't get anything decent out of this. Lesnar/TBS was a million times better then any JBL/Batista match combined.

Everything Batista got over with early this year has almost vanished into thin air because they have neutered him just the same as they have with John Cena.

I know they were trying to make Batista look smart for knowing Eddy was going to blindside Batista with the hand-shake but the whole "Friends dont shake hands...They hug" thing is just horrible. I don't expect anything creative or remotely interesting to come from this program. The match won't be special enough to warrant whatever crap that is headed our way.

Ken Kennedy is pretty much Smackdown's only worthwhile thing to watch.

Which isn't much to be excited about because Kennedy will be Christian-ized very soon anyways.

Hopefully they are done with this stupid Benoit/Jordan thing but considering those 4 men have been trading wins back and forth, Im not expecting things to change.

Mysterio going over JBL isn't bad and it recovers Mysterio's heat after losing to Eddy week. JBL? It's due time to return some jobs and unlike Triple H, JBL's clout isn't large enough to completely get out of job patrol.

Undertaker/Orton is already played out enough and adding the Diesel 1996 "Fake lifelike body" in the casket only shows WWE is still creatively inept, despite the addition of Dusty Rhodes, which to be fair, Dusty's ineptitude is a different animal then WWE's ineptitude.

This is another SD to avoid, although I'm certain there's alot of stuff cut out that wont make this better anyways.

I really can't see JBL back in the main event title scene again in the near future. Eddie and Orton are the next two big challengers to Batista, and Brock would most certainly be above all of them should he ever come back.

Hell I can see Benoit facing Batista for the title before I see JBL again.

Storyline-wise, why is Orlando Jordan possibility still getting title shots? If the US title is ever to regain scraps of credibility, Benoit needs to move on, now.

JBL alligning with Jillian Hall (coupled with his swift defeat by Rey this week and Batista last week) makes it seem like they're transitioning the character into more of a midcard comedy gimmick. Can't complain if it ensures he's permanently out of SD PPV mainevents.

Is the Network executive heel or face? Do they really need two match-making figures on the same show (when even one is arguably unnecessary)?

Eddy Guerrero is basically being used to fill time as WWE is apprently going to ahead and go with Orton/Batista for Mania, since Brock Lesnar and WWE aren't making any progress.

It's not the most ideal decision, in fact it's rather low on my wish-list to see but Orton has clearly been the only heel properly built over the last 3 months.

Agreed. There's a laundry list of potential feuds for Benoit (Christian, Booker, JBL, Regal, Kennedy, Mysterio), that would help the title far more immensly than these squashes are.

Jordan is still getting shots, presumably because Benoit allows it. Which completely goes against the whole "fighting machine" character that Benoit has been sold as for the last, Oh I dunno, 21 years.

Expecting WWE to remember what their workers characters are is a mistake to make.

JBL's most entertaining come alongside Amy Weber and naturally they had to pair him back with a female with essentially the same character only with a plastic growth on her head. Mid card comedy heel who can brawl? That's JBL's range. Finally WWE figures it out.

Palmer Cannon is a definitive heel.

Celebrating the re-release of Tommy Boy on DVD? OK. I see they are making the world title program into a comedy feud.

MNM are now officially dead. They will probably still try to make Melina a star, as for the other 2, no chance.

And how will they explain the handicap match at No Mercy when UT has already beaten Randy on TV? Like we are supposed to believe that adding a 60 yr. old man to the match will somehow put the outcome in doubt.

Once again, the first set of spoilers is vague and leaves a lot out, and was flat out wrong in some cases. Here's what PWInsider's spoilers said (the first 2 of the set of 3):

Mark Cozart sent this report.

WWE Smackdown! And Raw (Super Show)

September 12th 2005

The Alltel Arena

Little Rock Arkansas

Most of the upper tier of the stadium was blocked off and there were quite a few empty seats. I was surprised to see tickets on sale due to a big SUPER SHOW featuring all the stars. The crowd was wild all night and made up for the low attendance. The New L.O.D. has the look and the fan following but absolutely no charisma and talent inside the square circle. It is almost impossible to have a terrible match in front of a live audience but they have the dubious honor putting on the most boring wrestling I have ever seen since the last days of WCW.

SMACKDOWN!

Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Paul Burchill in a dark match

Scotty 2 Hotty dominated much of the match. He done the worm and before he could chop, Burchill knocked him across the ropes and rolled him up for the pin. I read an interesting report on the Springfield Smackdown! Show where the same finish was implemented against Scotty 2 Hotty. Winner: Burchill

Benoit vs. Christian

Chris Benoit came out to a nice ovation from the crowd. Captain Charisma came out and a lot of younger men cheered. Orlando Jordan came to the ring and said, “please don’t tell me this is happening”. He said he refused to go down in history as the guy who tapped out at 22.4 seconds and attacked Chris Benoit. Benoit regained his step and caught Jordan in the crippler crossface and almost made him tap before Christian starting stomping and kicking. Booker T made the save and the match was announced as a tag team. Orlando went for the chair on the outside and Booker T grabbed the chair. Booker pulled the chair away and accidentally ran into Sharmell. Orlando and Christian doubled up on Chris Benoit and Christian executed the unprettier for the 1-2-3. After the match, Benoit was furious and asked Booker T what had happen ( or that’s what appeared to going on). Winner: Christian and Orlando Jordan

Teddy Long and the network guy came to the ring with an applause (granted it was Long’s applause). Teddy Long said it was time to name a new number one contender for the Heavyweight Belt. He talked about the contender being an underdog his whole life, a family man, and a Latino. He was obviously talking about Mysterio but the network guy took the microphone and announced it would be Eddy Guerrero as the number one contender. Batista came out to a huge pop and listened. Eddy came to ring and talked about how he had several addictions and the worse one of all was that of manipulation. He said it was behind him now and he was a changed man. . A guy shouted at Batista not to believe him and Eddy called him a “Moron” and then apologized and said “ See, the old Eddy wouldn’t’ have done that” -apologize. Batista smirked and said everyone knew what kind of man he was and he could imagine what kind of champion he would be. Eddy talked some more about being a changed man and offered his hand and Batista said friends don’t shake hands, friends hug……and he embraced Eddy. The camera showed Eddy’s face contorting with the discomfort of hugging Batista but acted nice. Don’t misunderstand one important facet of this angle….Batista is not playing the fool that believes Eddy……and Eddy isn’t trying to be super secretive about his ambitions because it’s a superficial type of niceness. Writing about the microphone talk does not do it justice…….it came off well and had some comical moments with Batista calling eddy Holmes.

L.O.D vs. M&M

It could play differently on television but this match was of inferior quality. Animal wrestled little and relied on H to carry the math (scary, huh?). M&M is such a talented team to be wasted on the “New” L.O.D. The match ended when one of the M&Ms hit Heidenreichit with one of the tag team titles. Winner by DQ: L.O.D.

Teddy Long was upset with the network guy for ruining his decision for the number 1 contender. Network representative said the network wanted someone like Eddy because he has overcame odds…..(Would you want a former addict to headline your show if you were a strict values network? ) Nunzio and Vito came in and Nunzio complained about not being on Smackdown. Eddy Comes in and thanks Teddy Long for the opportunity and listens to the complaints. He says that he would like to see Batista in action and alludes to a match of Batista vs. Nunzio and the network guy jumps on the idea and announces the match.

Bradshaw vs. Mysterio

The Titantron showed footage of the bull rope match between John Bradshaw Layfield and Dave Batista. Rey Mysterio received one of the biggest pops of the evening which surprised me. Bradshaw and Mysterio focused on the David and Goliath match where Bradshaw was stomping and trying to simply catch Mysterio. Mysterio controlled the speed of the match only to be stopped a few times. One highlight is Mysterio going for a monkey flip in the corner but squatted away. Rey Rey hit a somewhat blotched springboard moon Sault for the surprise victory. Bradshaw was stunned and later backstage, he asked Julian Hall if she would be work for him. Bradshaw is portrayed as a chief executive so a “public image specialist” to help salvage his reputation makes sense and will be entertaining to watch. Winner by Springboard Moonsault: Mysterio

Josh Matthews attempted to interview Bradshaw about losing to Batista and Rey Mysterio but he just walked away in disgust. Ken Kennedy walked up to Matthews and talked about the media being all about negativity. He then started to smell something and said the foul odor was Josh’s cologne, then said it must come from his underpants, then said it smelt like Arkansas and started to gag.

Mr. Kennedy came out and told the ring announcer to get out of the ring. Mr. Kennedy introduced himself (and not his opponent. He added one pound to his weight saying he gained a pound. Kennedy has a lot of talent and is the real CAPTIAN CHARSMA. His microphone skills are topnotch and his ring skills are incredible. The Match was short and sweet. I marked out when he executed the AMAZING finisher (Green Bay Plunge).  Winner by an off the top rope flipping fireman’s carry slam: Mr. Kennedy ……Kennedy

Batista vs. Nunzio

Eddy Came out and watched match from the stage. This was obviously a squash match with Batista dominating. He picked up Nunzio and placed him on the top rope and Nunzio dropkicked the champ. He hit the spine buster on Vito and power bombed Nunzio ( Man, that looks REALLY REALLY STIFF when you see it in person.) Eddy gave the thumbs up to the champ. Winner by a stiff Liger Bomb: Batista

Randy Ortan vs. The Undertaker The Ortons kept talking about a surprise all night. Bob Orton had a “surprise” in a U-haul truck and kept teasing the crowd by knocking on the side or the camera showing them as they closed the door. This was an excellent match with back and forth action from both respective wrestlers. The Undertaker worked on the arm and the shoulder by clubbing blows and teased the OLD SCHOOL but was foiled by Orton kicking the ropes. Orton gained the offensive and started working on taker with fists and typical Orton arsenal. He really pulled out all of the stops on the undertaker with DDTS/impact moves and signaled for the U-Haul Truck. He opened the door and it the surprise was a casket. Taker got up and surprised Randy with a choke slam. Taker went for the pin but the ref was pulled out of the ring and knocked out by Bob Orton. Taker and R. Orton wrestled outside and taker grabbed Orton and placed him on his shoulder, opened the coffin lid only to see HIMSELF in the coffin. It surprised him as it did us and he dropped Orton and tried to regain his senses. The two went back to the ring and Taker won with a tombstone. After the match he did the signature fist raised in the air (on the stage). Winner by Tombstone Pile driver: The Undertaker Note: The undertaker in the coffin could have been fake but it looked VERY real and I thought he would open his eyes and we would have another Undertaker 2 in WWE history. Television could show I to be fake looking but everyone was stunned so it looked real.

POPS and CHEERS

Batista

Rey Mysterio

Taker (ring entrance)

Heat

Eddy Guerrero

Mr. Kennedy (after the Arkansas comment)

James C. sent this report.

Hey I just returned from the supershow. When I first entered the building I went to the concession stand. They were selling the Captain Charisma t-shirts.

The first & only dark match of the night was Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Paul Burchill. Burchill rolled up Scotty who was doing the worm.

Benoit vs. Christian was next but Orlando Jordan came out and said he refuses to go down as the man who tapped out in 22.5 seconds. OJ attacked Benoit and then took over the match. Christian waited outside the ring & then ran in double teamed Benoit. This brought out Booker T and was made a tag team match. OJ shoved Benoit off the top rope & Christian hit the unprettier on Benoit. BT got heat from Benoit for not making the save.

Stacy was helping Christy with her outfit when Batista comes up. He then runs into Simon Dean who drinks the protein shake & spits it on a agent. Batista then takes a drink of it.

Teddy Long is the ring w/Cannon Palmer. Teddy brings out Batista. Batista said JBL is in the past and that he was here to talk about the future and name a #1 contender. Teddy begins to introduce the #1 contender by saying that he is a family man, a high flyer and on a hot streak. Long was about to introduce Rey but Palmer cuts him off and announces Eddie Guerrero who came out to a new entrance. I did not see Smackdown last so I do know if he had the entrance last week. Eddie says that his worst addiction was to manipulation. Eddie said that when he beat Rey last week he found a new addiction- Respect, honor. He said that he was the new Eddie. Eddie says that he does not lie ,cheat or steal anymore. Eddie was trying to be best friends w/Batista. Batista said that best friends do shake hands they hug. Batista then hugged Eddie, who had a deceitful look.

Next match was Animal & Heidenreich vs. MNM for the tag titles. Lod won disqualification after MNM used 1 of the titles on Heidenreich.

Teddy tells Palmer that they are supposed to be working together. Eddie says he is happy. They was a rift between Long & Palmer.

Randy & Cowboy Bob Orton are in the back. Bob has a surprise for his son- the night legacy of the Undertaker will die.

Next match was JBL vs. Rey ,who also had a new entrance. Rey wins with a springboard off the ropes. This was a very entertaining match.

Nunzio is in the back & says ever since he won the cruiserweight title he has not appeared on Smackdown. Eddie is also back there with Long & Palmer. Eddie makes a champion vs. champion match with Batista vs. Nunzio. Palmer tells Eddie no wonder the network likes you.

Josh Matthews is in the back when JBL walks by. Matthews tells JBL you lost the world title match last week & then this week you lost to Rey. JBL walks off and the Ken Kennedy comes up to Matthews. He tells Josh that he needs to change his underpants and that he smells like Arkansas which drew major heat. Kennedy then comes out next to face an unnamed opponent. Kennedy wins in a squash.

Batista vs. Nunzio. Batista comes out to good fan reaction while Nunzio got none. Eddie starts down the ramp cheering on Batista. Batista wins w/Batista Bomb. He sees Eddie outside the ring & gives him the double thumbs up.

Randy & father are then shown looking at a u-haul truck.

JBL is in his locker room when Michelle McCool comes in. He says that he needs help. He asks her to work for him. She accepts.

Orton vs. Undertaker. Undertaker attempts the old school but Orton kicks UT who crotches the top rope. Orton then superplexes UT and then calls out his father, who is directing the u-haul truck to the ring. Bob then opens the truck to reveal a casket. UT & Randy stare each other down and then go outside the ring. Taker opens the casket & attempts to put Orton in it when he sees a mannequin of himself in the casket. Taker attempts the last ride then bumps into the ref. Orton hits the RKO on Taker who kicks out at 2. Taker with a chokeslam to Randy. Taker is covering Orton when Bob pulls the ref out. Bob enters the ring and is then thrown out by Taker. Taker then with the tombstone on Randy for the 3 count. This was the match off the night by far. I felt Smackdown was a lot better than Raw which is strange. This was probably the best Smackdown that I can remember in quite some time.

Onto my Raw notes. Shawn & Flair delivered another great promo. During the Shelton Benjamin vs. Kerwin White they received boring chants. For the most part I thought it was a pretty dull match. Benjamin was still down in the ring for about a minute or 2 after Angle's promo. Benjamin was holding his lower back & side on his way out. Torrie, Candice, Victoria and Ashley were hot to look at delivered a dull promo. Crowd erupted for Trish. It was great to see Trish back. Flair vs. Masters. Crowd was way into Flair & Michaels. I thought Flair Master through a pretty decent match. Wished Carlito was doing his cabana instead of the run in. Flair & Michaels hugged each other after the match. Eugene was over with the crowd. Murdoch looks like a spitting image of Dirty Dick. Angle got a good reaction from the crowd chanting you suck to him. Crowd could care less about Tomko. Cena was way over with the crowd with an exception of a few Cena sucks chants. Bischoff was standing on the ramp for about 5 minutes before he came down to the ring. Angle delivered a hell of a move when he suplexed Cena with Tomko on his shoulders. After the beat down following the match, Cena could not stand on his left leg and was helped to the back by refs. I would estimate the total crowd at around 6,000-7,500.

1. How do you mistake Michelle McCool for the chick with the thing on her face?

2. I don't see the point of Undertaker going over Orton.

1. That's a good question. I have no idea how he did that.

2. It serves no purpose, especially after Orton used gamesmanship with the casket and still got beat.

Other comments: At least it was Benoit v. Christian that set up the tag match and not Benoit v. Jordan again. They should just get rid of the cruiserweight title if that's how they're going to treat it. Rey beating JBL clean was good. The tag titles are dying on LOD because they simply cannot work at all. Why have a GM at all if he never makes any matches, but just gets mad when Palmer Canon makes the matches?

Better yet - how the fuck does the 'network' even have booking power?

Considering how much control TV networks have over other programming (i.e. sitcoms, dramas, newscasts), its not too much of a stretch to think they'd be able to tell WWE what matches they'd prefer to see on their network.

Enough of this shit with Orlando Jordan. Nobody cares, just move Benoit on to something decent. Hell, let him feud with Ken Kennedy...or Christian, or Booker, or ANYONE.

Yeah, and UPN has been all over the WWE for their content since day one. I mean, that whole Hassan thing... and the... and... and... um... they beep swear words too and stuff. Like, this certainly isn't a childish reaction by the WWE to a perfectly reasonable and justifiable course of action on the part of UPN. UPN should have done what the WWE does when people criticize them - mock the critics.

It's older, but Gillberg vs. Triple H back in 2000. It was suprisingly decent, but nowehre near the fun of Al Snow/Triple H where Snot threw every pin in the book at Trips, I think it helped HHH a lot, and Al really had nothing to lose
