NFL Week Two

Clearly, as recent NFL history shows, a bad first month of the season means the season is over.

Oh wait...

That's not what recent NFL history has shown. Ask Steelers and Patriots fans about it. Teams starting poorly and making the playoffs or a run at them, is becoming more common.

That's exactly what I'm thinking right now. I didn't exactly have high hopes for the season with the ridiculously tough schedule the Packers have this year, but I predicted something like 7-9 during preseason. I think Green Bay looks like a team in transition, especially from what I've seen, but god losing to the fucking worst team in the league outside of San Francisco? That's embarassing. The defense is playing much better than last year, but there's an incredible amount of instability on that side of the ball, and the offense just isn't on the same page.

Interesting stat: This is the first time in NFL history that both Green Bay and Minnesota have started the season 0-2. I expect both teams' fortunes to change, especially Green Bay who have a recent history of starting out slow and finishing strong then not showing up for the playoffs. I have absolutely no fucking clue what the hell is wrong with Minnesota, though.. Culpepper should have no excuse for the kind of performance he had today. 5 picks and no TDs? Is Cincinatti really that good?

Outside of only a couple games, this week has really been all about the upset special. And it's really only about Week 6 or 7 whether you can tell if a team looks good or not, I think.

Unless Favre becomes Superman and hitches the team to his back, Green Bay is in trouble. Green Bay has an lack of talent problem, to go with the execution problems they share with Minnesota.

Great way to honor of the best DE's of our era, Packers. I swear, everytime something big happens at Lambeau, Sherman manages to fuck it up beyond all belief. The re-didication game, playoffs against Vikings, and on Reggie White Day we get beaten by the Browns. Being at the game, it was just sad to see us phone it in until it was needed. Did anybody think that we were gonna do well without Walker, but the defense just choked in the end. When we were chanting "Reggie" they allowed a TE to run over us for an easy score. Thank's Mark Roman, for playing like you did in 2004. All the penalties, including the one's in the end. The ceremony for Reggie was great, but just a horrible way to honor a Canton-bound player. If Sherman and Rossley got canned, I'd be fucking happy. Make Edgar Bennet OC, and give Bates the coaching job. I went to the thing before the game and met some good former players like Bryce Paup, Leroy Butler, Sean Jones, Willie Davis, and some others.

FIRE MIKE SHERMAN

Without question it is the North. The Vikings seem to be lost without Moss and all I have to say is "The Detroit Lions" and the debate is over (and it's just about time we firmly slap the "Bust" tag on Joey Harrington).

I'm enjoying Turico and Sharpe immensly tonight. They seem to have the attitude of "We know this is the only time we'll ever have this slot, so let's have some fun" which is a refreshing change. Though if Sterling was running the Raiders offense, Moss would have about 30 receptions about now.

Sterling is awesome. He's calling the plays before it happens.

"Here comes the screen - if they're tripling Moss, throw to the guy off of the screen".

Exact play unfolds.

Though if Sterling was running the Raiders offense, Moss would have about 30 receptions about now.

They're playing a soft zone on him, leaving him one-on-one with the corner. Still, Collins has thrown to Moss only seven times tonight.

Come on Trent, ONE TD! That's ALL I ask! I don't want to lose another game by less than 6.

EDIT: FUCK!! I've lost my first two games by a combined EIGHT points. And this is for money, too!

I like Sterling since he isn't another neutered black sports analyst. Tirico and Sharpe need to be made the announce team STAT.

Raiders biggest problem, which will hold them back from success:

Kerry Collins.

I watched the game with family and friends, both Raiders fans and haters alike, where we all came to this conclusion: Collins is fried mentally. He looks lost when he's on the field, he holds onto the ball too long, he over/under throws the ball too often, his accuracy looks shot at times and just, generally, brings the team down.

Collins brings the Raiders down ala Kordell Stewart and the Steelers in the late 90's.

The Raiders got robbed of a Moss TD and a LaMont Jordan breakaway TD, which was negated because Jake Grove, the center, looked like he was holding a Chief player.

As a Raiders fan, this game was tough to watch for several reasons, which I just mentioned above.

Next week: Raiders vs. Eagles.

Bring'em on...

I only saw the 4th quarter of the Packers game during my hour lunch but what I have to say is, we defnitely need Green to run for 100 yards in order for the Packers offense to improve.

Both games, Favre has thrown 40-50 attempts per game, That is insane and by far the most I've seen him throw in back to back games. So with the young receivers that we have, I say Green defnitely needs to step up.

And one question I do have, Why did the Packers blitz on 3rd down on that last long TD pass again? It was the same exact play that happened only a few plays earlier and it didn't work then so.

Next 2 weeks....Against Tampa and Carolina.

Joy....Maybe we'll actually beat the "good" teams.

Add me into the list of people who thought Sterling was better than anybody you'll hear tomorrow night on any network playing football. Hell, give me Sterling and Shannon Sharpe in a booth and I'd be happy

I was elated when I realized I could actually watch the late game tonight, since Theisman's craptastic crew was off. Tirico and Sharpe were excellent, about a zillion times better than the garbage usually spewed on Sunday Night.

Is there really anyone in the NFC right now that's started out consistently the first 2 games? Maybe the Bucs? Kinda scary to think that either the Saints or Giants will join them though, and also either the Cowboys or Redskins.

Chargers now 0-2. I think that missed FG vs. the Jets might have really mentally trashed this team, they can't seem to buy a close one. That said, last year they seemed like a mediocre 8-8 team that edged out 4 wins they shouldn't have...now they're looking like an 8-8 team.

Gotta disagree. Randy Moss is a great WR. Possibly the best out there. It would be a smart decision to utilize him. Sterling really did a good job breaking down all of the plays.

As for Oakland getting blown --- that's ESPN for you. KC isn't as "sexy".

...and could barely get Randy Moss' cock out of his mouth long enough to actually call the game.

Moss was thrown to SEVEN times, caught five of those passes for 127 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown. He was drawing triple-teams all night (corner, safety and outside linebacker), yet Collins is so hideous at screen passes that he takes so long to make a decision that his players are all out of position. Jordan is open as day for at least a fifteen-yard reception on that final drive, while Moss takes everyone with him downfield, but Collins throws three feet behind Jordan and the play is blown.

Fuck, just start Andrew Walter already. He can't do that much worse.

The Bengals actually have been very consistent so far. I had a feeling that they would put it together at some point this season and start playing well. I didn't think it would be this soon though. Carson Palmer was looking very good at the end of last year and its good to see that he has progressed even more. He's developing great chemistry with Chad Johnson and TJ Housmanzadeh.

The Vikings have been consistently bad.

I didn't list an NFC team because the NFC is terrible. No one cares about them. The Eagles are probably the best team, but are too fragile. A few injuries and their finished.

When Tampa Bay is one of the better looking teams it isn't saying much for the conference.

It'll take a little time to flesh out a lot of the questions, but I think that Carolina's performance against the Pats may end up saying a lot about what the Saints did to them last week...

On offense, the Saints were able to move the ball somewhat well and 1st round draft pick OT Jammal Brown was able to keep superstud DE Julian Peppers off of Aaron Books all day.

That's pretty good when a rookie is able to keep the biggest defensive star in the league off of Mr. Butterfingers for a whole game.

On defense, the Saints, who were pathetic last year, were able to make Jake Delhomme cough up several INTs. Considering that Mike McKenzie lead the team last year with about 6 for the year, despite playing only HALF THE SEASON there, the performance in that one game alone shows a step up.

The question to me is whether the Saints D can give a "down home" welcome to Eli Manning and pull back a few more INTs for touchdowns.

Considering that the Giants O-line is not exactly known for its strength, I'd say it's a distinct possibility that we'll see stud DEs Will Smith and Darren Howard up in Eli's face all night.
