Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 I was over at a friend's last Sunday and saw a commercial for the new "GI Joe: Sigma 6" cartoon. It looked cool, but I didn't get a chance to see it. Anyone have any thoughts on this one yet?
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 I made it clear on another board how much I utterly detest this show and how it pisses on the legacy of a legendary 80s cartoon...Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are brothers? WTF?!?!?!? Scarlet looks like a emo girl with red dyed hair as opposed to the all-american kickyerass kinda gal...Tunnel Rat eats bugs and slinks around like a snake, totally destroying his cool image from the past...Roadblock is now called Heavy Duty and doesn't rhyme when he talks...it's really not good...but, definently at least check it out and see for yourself...if you were a huge fan of GI Joe in the 80s, you will not like this at all...it's WORSE than the crap that Transformers has become... starvenger 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 I understand that Roadblack being renamed Heavy Duty was due to some toy licensing issues. Lushus, did you ever read the Marvel Comics version of GIJoe?

Lushus, did you ever read the Marvel Comics version of GIJoe? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes I did, the comics were fantastic...two issues really stick out in my mind...well actually the entire story arc with that war that took place in that fake Arabic country (I forget the name) that branched over the course of about 6 or 7 issues...the one where that SAW Viper offs 6 Joes including Doc and freaking Quickick, I think that Techno2000 Team or whatever they were all bought it all at once as well in one of those issues...also the one where Dusty and the one who's name escapes me are pinned down in a village by Cobra and the one guy gets shot while saving a child. Dusty carries him on his back miles and miles all the way home only to be told he'd been dead the whole time...
dubq 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Even worse: have you seen the recent re-releases of the action figures. WTF? Not only are they smaller, but they're totally shite quality. The paintjob is horrible and even the colours are wrong half the time. Sorry, but last time I checked, Serpentor wore a gold costume, not a green one. Hell, even Destro's head has GREY PAINT instead of the cool chrome paint they used on him back in the 80's. I say fuck the 2000's and their mishandling of the GI Joe/Cobra franchise! Fuckers! Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 yeah, I've seen two episodes of Sigma 6 and I just couldn't take it anymore...our childhood is being destroyed here, people! I thought I went apeshit over Transformers getting utterly bastardized, but this is absolutely the last straw...
Chazz 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 If I end up deciding to watch It, where can I catch this new G.I. Joe? Also, do they still make The Comic Version of G.I. Joe? I used to love reading The Comic Version as well, particularly because It wasn't Sanitized and Main Characters always seemed to be biting The dust, unlike The Cartoon where everybody never really died. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Sigma 6 aleviates that problem by having the main soldiers in Cobra be B.A.T.S....I don't think they have any _____Vipers unless they're main guys...on the good side, at least Destro is there and he still seems badass enough... Joe comic by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee, but Devil's Due actually holds the license to publish G.I. Joe. It hasn't been particularly good, and I think they've "rebooted" their G.I. Joe universe a couple of times already. However, there is an "old school" mini from Marvel Joe writer Larry Hama - G.I. Joe Frontline (#1-4). I haven't read it though - after seeing the hack jobs Josh Blaylock and co have been doing with Joe, Voltron, and even Joe vs TF, I've avoided anything with a Devil's Due logo. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 I don't think the 80s cartoon ever covered it, I'm sure Marvel did, but what exactly IS Snake Eyes and Storm Shadows back story? I always figured it was a Ryu/Ken rivalry brought on by training and growing up together only escalated to hate based upon an act of betrayal by Storm Shadow...of course just by going with the cartoon, it's because one's a good ninja and one's a bad ninja and that is that, but I like to be a bit more imaginative than that...you can go that route with brothers, but that's just so damn cliche... They got hit pretty bad in the jungle, a couple guys got killed and a chopper came in to pick up the survivors. Snake Eyes got hit on the way to the chopper and Stormy ran back through a hail of gunfire to get him. After Snake Eyes returned home, Hawk informed him that his family had been killed by a drunk driver on the way to meet him at the airport. (The drunk driver was Cobra Commander's brother, and this was the catalyst for CC forming Cobra. CC somehow eventually came to blame Snakes for his bro's death.). Snake Eyes was all "fuck this" so he went to Japan to train to be a ninja with Storm Shadow. He got pretty good as you can imagine, with the help of Stormy's uncles, the Hard Master and the Soft Master. CC hired Firefly and Zartan to go to Japan to kill Snakes, when they got there Snakes was having a private training session with the Hard Master, and Zartan was outside with an ultrasonic bow. He shot and mistakenly killed the Hard Master, and then escaped in a helicopter piloted by Firefly. Stormy was thought by the Clan to be the killer, so he infiltrated Cobra to find the identity of the real killer. He eventually did and came around to join the Joe team after being killed and brought back to life, among other adventures. Unfortunately, CC started getting the nucleus of his old organization back, and captured and brainwashed Stormy, as well as the reformed Zartan, and the retired Destro and Baroness. I think he's still under the mind control of CC as of this writing. Hope that cleared some stuff up for you.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 wow...that's uhhhh....okay maybe being brothers isn't so bad after all...but hey, that's comics for you...curious what their deal was in the 80s cartoon, but now that i think about it, they really never faced off that much, if memory serves, maybe a few episodes here and there... Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 The comic version of GI Joe Extreme, simply Dark Horse's "GI Joe," was pretty badass. Come to think of it, Dark Horse itself was badass from the late 80's until the late 90's. I remember one episode of GI Joe where GI Joe had to protect this convoy that was under attack by Cobra, and Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were battling in a cave that ended up caving in, so they were running out of air and both decided to sit down and wait for rescue. Was a pretty cool episode.

It ties Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander, Zartan, Firefly, Stalker, Destro, and the Baroness (another story) all together in this crazy ass web. That's character building that the cartoon could never even think of achieving.
