The Amazing Race: Family Edition Thread

Recommended Posts

As someone that's watching the Amazing Race for the first time this season, I have to ask:

Are there always so many people who are too out of shape to really compete? It seems like a third of the families has SOMEONE that's just not able to keep up and thus they keep their team down. Or is it just this bad because it's families in lieu of just two people?

/and, yes, I realize that I picked the worst possible season to start watching

Generally, there are a couple of out of shape teams racing, but I think that the need for "families" have created a larger percentage of unfit people.

I still think that TAR6 was the worst one yet, but we're only 2 legs in here, so there's still time to hit rock bottom.

The Good:

- The rest periods. If they've eliminated the 12 hour rule and just set it up so that teams leave in the morning and reduces the bottlenecking, then I'm all for it.

The Bad:

- Did they forget about the "around the world" part of the show?

- The show might suffer if the Bransen, Paolo and Aiello dads die of heart attacks.

- They haven't mentioned a Roadblock limit yet.

I don't think there is a roadblock limit because that runs the risk of having one of the little kids (like Carissa Gaghan) do a very physically demanding and/or dangerous (for kids) task and having them get hurt. That's probably why there isn't a 12-hour rule as well.

I liked the "Secret Ops" roadblock and the battlefield medic Detour, but almost every other task has been lacking. And there still really isn't any particular family that is interesting. The mother of the Paolo family is just useless (we're approaching Flo territory here) and the Weaver family always bringing up their dead dad is getting annoying.

Unfortunately, GSN doesn't show an old AR on Tuesdays to flip to (though that is a good move on CBS' part).

Damn, with the Rogers' (namely daughter and milfy-mom) out, that leaves just the Linz girl as the only girl I find attractive.

Also, when I heard the pronounciation of the Schroeder girl's name ("stah-see" instead of "stay-see") I wondered why the dad didn't just add some unnecessary letters to her name for extra pretention

If you've looked at the race map at CBS.com, you'll have some idea of how where this race is (and isn't) going.

So many things have me discombobulated...

"This was the first pit stop...in The Amazing Race."

The Amazing North American Map.

"The Godlewskis, who were the first to arrive, will depart at 8:05 am." (I'm pretty sure it wasn't dark when everyone showed up.)

I don't remember their name, so forgive me for that ... but that wicked religious family kills me. "Dear God, please help us find our destination in Jesus' name. Oh, thank you, God." ... umm, doesn't God have better things to do than help a team with the Amazing Race? Shouldn't religious people know not to pray for things that are just wanted & not needed?

LOL. That's a time-honoured race tradition as old as the race itself.

Well...as a HUGE fan of all the other Amazing Races, I have to say, this one sucks.

I didn't even fully pay attention to the last episode, I was doing something else, which wouldn't have happened with the other seasons. The whole family idea is stupid, especially since they don't go "around the world" when half the entertainment of other episodes was the contestants getting angry with the 'evil foreigners' lol.

I could just imagine these dumb American families in Canada, thinking it's so "foreign" compared to the US

*a family walks up to starvenger*

"CAN YOU. TELL. US.... HOW TO GET TO.... THE CN. TOWER?!"

You know what's funny? You probably WOULD have to do that in Chinatown...

Dear Lord, please watch over the Bransen Girls and give their useless father the strength to drag his carcass around for at least a few more episodes so that we may see the fruits of your labour run around in tight t-shirts.

In Phil's name, Amen.

If the final three end up being the Paolos, the Weavers and the Pink Ladies, I'm going to shoot my fucking brains out. I was rooting for the Aiello's because they're from Mass, but now I have no clue. Hell, the little kids are showing more maturity than some of these people.

I liked the Aiellos. But, when you take 16 attempts at a Detour instead of bailing after 3 or 4 when you realize how insanely hard it is for you, you deserve to get booted.

Plus, Tony looked like he might have dropped dead if they had to run another couple of legs.

I laughed when the Gaghan family came in & took 1 try to finish the mud bog.

The title of episode 5 (10/25) is We're Getting Out of the Country, Girls so I guess they'll finally leave the U.S. then. Nothing against the U.S. adventure, but this isn't what I'm expecting in this show. I want to see people try to communicate in other countries by speaking English loud and slow, dammit!!
