Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 So where do you put LSU and Tennessee now, after Monday? As far as the SEC goes, I'm expecting another "Florida beats Tennessee but loses to Georgia, who lost to Tennessee" year for the east. Maybe South Carolina'll upset Florida this year or Vanderbilt will shock someone and deal a huge loss, but I expect Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee to end up with one conference loss each. If Florida loses to Alabama (something that's pretty damn possible) then everything's off and the SEC will lose one of its current four Rose Bowl team possibilities. I know jack-all about the West 'cept Alabama's in the lead and LSU's really good and Arkansas got curbstomped by USC and MSU hired a black dude and Ole Miss blows since Eli left. EDIT: I'm also finding myself to be something of an ACC fan too this season. So many solid teams and quality football. It's like the SEC except it's a buncha track stars and they're all dickheads from Florida.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Big, big weekend for Virginia, who has been probably the quietest of all the ranked teams thus far. At Maryland may not seem like much of a test, but almost all of the name UVa players--most importantly Ahmad Brooks and D'Brickashaw Ferguson--are questionable for Saturday with injuries. Virginia's biggest weakness this year has been the underneath passing game to tight ends, and Maryland just happens to have one of the best in the nation at that in Vernon Davis. If Brooks and Brick start and aren't hampered, Virginia will win a close one against a Maryland team that always gets up for this game. If not, they're going to have to blow Maryland over right out the gates, go vertical and get a 14 point lead before playing ball control the rest of the game. No matter who wins, I think this is going to be a 24-20, 23-17, something in that range slugfest. A win here would make me much, much more optimistic about going to BC and hosting FSU in subsequent weeks. As for Tennessee and LSU, I float them both somewhere around #8-12. One great win each, one disappointing loss each. Tennessee will get better with Clausen locked in at QB, and LSU will get better too, but like you said, the SEC is always a crapshoot to see who really is the best out of the 4-5 very good teams it tends to field each year. I think Alabama has a great chance against UF this weekend, which would open up the West race even more. And if Alabama beats UF, I'm going to say that Tennessee will take the east. Georgia is a really, really tough team to evaluate right now, because they've been very okay since Boise State self-destructed for them opening weekend. I'm waiting for them to hit one of the big guns and really show us what they're worth.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 Actually, this is pretty random, but here's how I see the SEC going. Alabama beats Florida this Saturday, stays undefeated until the second to last weekend where they lose to LSU. After beating Auburn, they finish the regular season 10-1 (7-1). LSU loses to Florida, doesn't lose any more games; ends the season 9-2 (6-2). Tennessee takes the loss to Alabama and gets knocked off by Notre Dame, doesn't lose any more games; ends the season 8-3 (6-2). Florida goes undefeated through the rest of the regular season after losing to Alabama, then curbstomps Bama in a rematch in the SEC Championship, ending the season at 11-1 (7-1), and pushing Bama's official final record to 10-2 (7-1). Florida goes to the Sugar Bowl after getting overlooked for the Rose Bowl in favor of USC and Texas and finishes the regular season ranked #3, while LSU picks up a BCS at-large berth after winning their last five games and goes to the Orange Bowl. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 Player of the Month (3): For those expecting a default vote for USC quarterback Matt Leinart … you're right. Sorry to be so predictable, but there really is no other choice. Vince Young had a bangup month. So did Reggie Bush. And Laurence Maroney. And so on and so forth. But like his team, Leinart rules college football until proven otherwise. This is what I mean by the ESPN/USC dick sucking. I mean seriously there are other people to pick.....and why is Leinart even leading the Heisman poll at this moment? I seriously want to see this guy fall apart. Not out of dislike for him but just to see how quickly those fickle bastards at ESPN jump off the bandwagon.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 Oh Lord, Mark May said on ESPN about the West Virginia fans when talking about the VT-WVU game this weekend that when he played at Pitt, he could never take off his hemlet because the WVU fans in Morgantown threw pennies, then he said that they threw pennies because they couldn't afford to throw nickels. Needless to say, the rivals.com West Virginia board is up in arms about it...
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 Pennies are plentiful and lighter to throw. Why would anyone throw a nickel? You've got pennies RIGHT THERE.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 Michigan deserves to be ranked anyway. They lost to two ranked, otherwise undefeated teams by one score, and are a couple plays from being 4-0 and ranked #3 in the country. If Mike Hart ever gets healthy, they're going to be a handful. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they beat Michigan State on Saturday. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> MSU is going to tear Michigan apart Saturday iggy, and I'll be on the 40 yard line - 20 rows up for the whole thing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wouldn't go that far now Crimson, Michigan will be up for this one and if they can get the offense going a little bit MSU won't stop them. State's defense isn't good at all this year and I'll take my money in a track meet with Breaston, Manningham, Avant, Ecker and the backs. This is all contingent on Chad Henne actually hitting the guys with passes and Terry Malone calling some aggresive plays. If Michigan sits on their hands and tries to turn this into a 1967-era game they will get blown out, they need to take a page out of State's book and spread some guys out maybe throw in Antonio Bass or some other athlete at QB for a snap and see what the Spartans do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You seem to be forgetting that MSU has one of the best QBs in the country and three, yes three running backs averging 5 yards a carry. Michigan is the team with a suspect defense (there's no suspicion, MSU's DBs are horrid) this year, and they barely won last year, only because Stanton got hurt. ANKLELOCK 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 Florida continues to be overrated on this board and in the polls. They are not that good and will lose to Bama this weekend. Book it.
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 I'm not going to respond to that, because I think Bama will beat Florida. It's one of those games that Florida should win by two touchdowns but will lose by three or four.

Book it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And how has Bama proven they're so good? They were in a close game with Arkansas at home, who lost to Vandy and looked like a high school team against USC... and a close game against Southern Miss. Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Maybe after a two or three years of recruiting Pitt can become respectable. (I think they already have one or two five start commits) But for the foreseeable future, they will be a joke.
Guest I miss Test. Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Who's going to want to go to Pitt after this ugly start? Add that the Big East is a total joke now... I can't see most of their hopefuls wanting to go there.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 The Big East is dead in the water. How horrendous is it for the two teams they were hyping (Pitt, U of L) to both tank all to hell? Pitt is pretty much a lost cause this year, not sure on U of L yet...we'll see if that USF game was a one time nightmare or a sign of the future. It won't help the BE much when USF gets a bitchslap from Miami to the tune of something like 49-7. In a way I'd like to see U of L still somehow get the BCS bid, but in a way it'd be embarrassing. I'd almost prefer not to be like Pitt last year, a total joke in a BCS game without doing anything to deserve it. I think WVU is the most likely to get the BCS bid though. jwpeer 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 You know what else could miraculously happen...WVU and USF beat two of the ACC's top teams and suddenly make the Big East look -really- friggin good Hey, it's so totally unlikely, but what else can I hope for. As a Pitt student my only solace as that unlike our former coach's team, we actually BEAT our 1-AA opponent
