Guest *KNK* Report post Posted October 6, 2005 ROH officials have already decided that there will be no commentary during the Kenta Kobashi vs. Samoa Joe match from 10/1 on the home release. This show is about to go into immediate production. The match is just as epic on video as it was live. From the ROH site. This is great news, because the match can only come across better without commentary. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Precisely, I would hate for the Japanese to endure ROH's announcers and think even less of us. Tim Cooke 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Samurai TV, if they didn't tape the shows themselves (I don't think they did), will most likely either get the footage from ROH without commentary for the full show and do their own announcing or have their own announcing over the ROH commentary. I doubt the Japanese fans would think less of "us" because of some announcing... Tim
tpww7 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Tim, there were Japanese people with cameras in the balcony before the show but I didnt notice them during it.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Samurai TV; in fact had their own crew filming the match.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted October 6, 2005 "Apparantly in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter there is information, or atleast a rumour addressed that Kobashi has shown interest in coming back to ROH again and would like to bring KENTA next time." from the ROHBOARD. I can't believe last weekend was that good, that Kobashi would want to return to an show of 850-1000 people when he's so used to the dome shows.
Tim Cooke 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2005 As backwards as it may sound, most Japanese wrestlers would die for a shot in the US. That is why Tenyru is asking the WWE for a job as a comedy wrestler. Kobashi got to wrestle in front of bigger crowds than Misawa and Ogawa did when they came in 2002 plus got to wrestle 'his' match instead of some toned down version. Ultimo Dragon sacrificing himself to the WWE is just another example of that thinking. Tim
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2005 Speaking of which, Dragon's coming to wrestle for a Toronto indy in January. I'll be away on vacation, but I'd like to go see it.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 Why was Christopher Daniels relegated to a three-way with Azrieal and Matt Sydal? Was there some sort of storyline behind this or did they just have nothing better for him to do? And why wouldn't you use that match to put over one of the other guys, since they have a much brighter future in RoH than Daniels. I remember A.J. Styles/Bryan Danielson from Main Event Spectacles, the match really suffered without commentary. I don't care how annoying they are, announcers make a match a whole lot easier to watch. Tim Cooke 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2005 So I guess you never watch any US Indies or smaller Japanese shows since they don't have announcing? Two of the great MPro 6 man tags of 1996 have no announcing and don't suffer at all.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2005 Yeah, I have the NOAH show from Dec 2000 with Kobashi vs Akiyama and Misawa vs Vader and the entire card has no announcing on it, yet it didn't hinder the show at all. Good wrestling is good wrestling.

Even when I watch Japanese tapes, I would rather have Japanese announcers screaming commentary I don't understand than just silence.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted October 13, 2005 The show has officially been titled "Joe Vs Kobashi" Simple and to the point. Night two is titled "Unforgettable".
Guest P-Any Report post Posted October 14, 2005 ROH is hot! I had the pleasure of watching my first live ROH event and it was great!
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 I remember A.J. Styles/Bryan Danielson from Main Event Spectacles, the match really suffered without commentary. Incorrect. Awesome match and anything that involves the ROH commentators not talking is fantabulous.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 I've heard ROH's announcers on a couple clips I've downloaded. One guy seemed like he was trying to stretch and use a Jesse Ventura type "tough guy announcer" voice (something I've heard on MANY indy tapes). They seemed pretty bad to me. Maybe they've gotten better recently. I couldn't say since I don't collect tapes anymore.

But the point needs to be emphasized: ROH's announcers suck.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2005 Grabbing this thread from the past 60 days dungeon.... I just got the Kobashi-Joe DVD over the weekend after ROH had a pretty decent Black Friday sale of 25% off all DVDs, including this one. If there ever was a pretty damn historic and flawless match in ROH history, this was it, folks. Top to bottom this was an incredible match laced with stiff chop fests, fantastic pacing, unparralled crowd heat, etc. Can't emphasize enough that this needs to be seen by anyone who considers themselves a wrestling fan. Havent seen the next night yet in terms of the tag match, but going to get to that later this week. I believe ROH is having a 20-30% holiday sale soon, now would be the time to pick it up.... Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2005 Take advantage of this sale and get Glory By Honor IV which has an excellent Gibson Vs Danielson match that I feel would be the north american MOTY if it werent for Joe-Kobashi/
