Guest TheDon Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Jim Leyland is 60 years old????? The man looked like he was 65 and collecting social security back in 1990.
The Czech Republic Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Leyland is like a pack-an-hour smoker, I hear. Prob'ly explains the drastic premature aging.
Guest Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Tracy is a really good manager. All seasons were winning ones besides this and he gets fired? Depodesta sucks a big one. Tracy is a pretty big upgrade over Dusty, but he'll probably wind up with the Pirates. For his sake, I hope he gets a deal with a team that can contend. He was the exact opposite of what McCourt wanted.
Guest TheDon Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 John Hart gm of the Rangers just quit. His Arod and Chan Ho Parks deals killed the team and set them back several years. However they do have a good youth movement going on.

McClendon 4 skipper
Guest Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 They'll give Tracy a look at the very least.
The Czech Republic Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Yeah and they'll say "aw shit he's white what are we gonna doooooooooo" Â Unfortunately, Dusty claims he wants to give us one more year, so hopefully MacPhail says "um no you don't" and sends him out. We finished 79-83, you know. Â Are there any A's coaches who have been sufficiently brainwashed by Billy Beane who might want to manage a team? Maybe even Ken Macha himself?
Spaceman Spiff Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Charlie Manuel still has a job? Damn.
UZI Suicide Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Jim Tracy isn't any good. He's not bad, but he certainly isn't good, he's just blah. I definitely won't miss the fact that he was so steadfast in playing shitty veterans all the time, or his reluctance to pull a starter from the game when they obviously had nothing left. Â But yeah, Depo and McCourt need to go though. Especially Depo, he's fucking clueless. Obviously he learned NOTHING from Beane.

You only want him fired because of his skin color, it has nothing to do with the Cubs completely leaving miles below expectations and just returning to what they do best which is sucking.
2GOLD Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Ken Macha He Gone <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  Baltimore better call his ass. At least call him.
2GOLD Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Face it, the Cubbies are stuck with Dusty. God dammit, the Cubbies are stuck with Dusty. Maybe we'll get lucky and Bob Brenly will want to come down and coach. Least he has a World Series. And it'll prevent him from announcing.

2GOLD Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 After watching the Cubs hit into like 8000 double plays or strike out on three dead middle fastballs, I was begging for a bunt. Hell, at one point I was begging them to lean into pitches that were wild outside.
Slayer Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 "Every at-bat is a good time to bunt... except when my pitcher has a perfect game on the line."
Guest TheDon Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I wonder who the A's are going to replace for Macha. The article on espn said that the A's and Macha couldn't come to an agreement for the future.
Bored Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Macha was no great shakes as a manager and the negotiations were purely for show in my opinion as there was already a rumor last offseason that Beane was tired of him, who he had been so high a few of years ago that he let Art Howe go. Bob Geren, who's the bullpen coach and has managed a lot in the minors, is the most likely replacement although it would be kind of nice to see Ron Washington rewarded with the job although I no clue if he'd make a good manager. I'm holding out hope for Larry Dierker, if he still wants to manage, but A's are unlikely to spend any significant amount to bring someone in outside of the organization.
sfaJack Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Dierker was quoted a while back as saying he wouldn't mind managing again, but that it'd have to be "the right situation."

Wow the new A's manager is going to be a former backup catcher for the Yankees.

Former Yankees Joe Gordon, Hank Bauer, Ed Lopat and Billy Martin all managed the Athletics.
Guest TheDon Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 I was joking around Al. Chuck LaMar was finally fired today as it only took the Devil Rays 8 years too many to finally do it. He should have been fired following the 1999 season when he overpaid for Canseco, Juan Guzman, Vinny Castilla, Greg Vaughn, etc....
Guest bigm350 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 About Leyland; he's a good manager, and the Tigers have a decent amount of young, talented players, but if you follow the Tigers, you just know they'll be lousy again next year. Call it the Animal Kingdom curse, because the Lions are lousy year in, and year out, too.
King Kamala Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 I've got high hopes for the Devil Rays next year. For some reason, they're my 2nd favorite team. Maybe with a new owner and GM, they'll pick up some decent veteran pitchers and flirt with .500 next year........ Â Â Â But for some reason I doubt they will.
Slayer Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Call it the Animal Kingdom curse, because the Lions are lousy year in, and year out, too. Maybe if they switched to auto-related mascots like the other two city teams...
Vern Gagne Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 What the hell are the A's interested in Orel Hersheisher?
mike546 Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Mel is gone from the Yankees. Thanks George.
