Downhome Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 One that I'd love to see that has never happened on a big stage, and has never really happened (meaning a match that means anything), is Benoit vs. Mysterio. Why they've never had a long term program, I'll never know. They had a pretty solid match on an episode of SD once (and even that was way back in 2002), have been in a few three-ways together, and have been in tags, but they've never really been in a program together, not even in WCW. I wouldn't even mind seeing those two feuding over the world title (yes, I said it). I think their matches would be far better than the Guerrero/Mysterio series. Am I alone here? I know it's mentioned before, but never a thread talking about it really, unless I totally missed it.
Dark Age Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Well, I think the match they had on SD in 02 might be the WWE MOTY, so I have no doubt they would rule together. I doubt it would be as good now as it was three years ago, but still. Eddie/Rey from SD this year is probably better than the 02 match, though.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 They don't really have the personalities to pull it off. I'm sure with the right booking and storytelling it would be great, but think about that and both WCW and WWE's willingness to do that, and you get your answer to why it never happened.
Downhome Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Posted October 5, 2005 Well the entire "WWE wouldn't do it right" is a factor in pretty much everything that we wish that we could see, since they let everyone down so much. I think it could be a money feud though, maybe not quite this generation's version of Dynamite Kid/Tiger Mask, but it could be fucking great. But there is that word again..."could". With our luck Benoit would turn heel and claim Mysterio's wife as his own.
Guest Fook_Theta Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Benoit may be one of the few guys that could be believably beaten by Rey for the title. Too bad Benoit's reign wasn't used to the effect it could have had.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I shouldn't have stressed that last sentence. The main point was their personalities don't "fit" each other, feud-wise. Who is going to carry the feud? Benoit. I like Benoit, but his personality (as well as Reys) is best suited as being the reactor rather than the instigator. Plus, when has a Canadian vs. a Mexican ever drew? I mean, really people... just think about it.
Downhome Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Posted October 5, 2005 That's one of the reasons I'd like to see it. If a world title was in the picture, it wouldn't look so weird having Rey win it. I still think they'll push him that far one day, I really do. I'd rather see something like this than anything having to do with Cena or Batista. I like Benoit, but his personality (as well as Reys) is best suited as being the reactor rather than the instigator. I do agree with that, and it would be one of the few things where they both would need protecting. It would have to be one of those feuds, even though we haven't really seen one in a while, where the ring work does the majority of the talking. The setup would have to be very simple, and the matches would have to be solid. Yeah, it'll never happen.

Guest rawmvp Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Meltzer is a cool guy, but at the same time, I've always been under the impression that he's a correspondent for Vince McMahon and WWE.

tekcop Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 You know what should have happened but never did? Benoit vs. Ultimo Dragon.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I think Benoit/Benjamin tops the shoulda/coulda/woulda list.
Guest Fishyswa Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 ^More to that point, 20+ of Lesnar/Benoit would of made me weep tears of joy.

razazteca Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 You know what should have happened but never did? Benoit Rey Mysterio vs. Ultimo Dragon at Wrestlemania. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It could of been a great opening match.
