Just John 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 Every team has bandwagon fans. That's just the way sports work. Although, being in central Missouri, I'm glad all the bandwagon Cardinal fans went back into hiding. Damn, they were annoying... Cheering every walk like a homerun and what not. Glad I won't have to hear from them for a while.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 How can the Cardinals be the new Braves when the new Braves are still the old Braves? Yeah but the difference is now nobody expects much from the Braves at this point given their loss of talent, and the fact they keep making the playoffs at this point is just a testament to good managing Meanwhile the Cardinals have made the playoffs for all but one year this decade and are highly touted in the media as the team of the NL, but then go nowhere in the postseason, especially the last couple years where they've had 100+ wins and then lose to wild-card teams in the playoffs New Braves indeed. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 Astros vs. White Sox. Could any sick bastard possibly come up with something worse than this piece of shit World Series? Anyone care to come up with something more heatless, horrible, and featuring two teams that people either 1. don't care about or 2. flat out hate? We all have two choices: Root for the Astros in hope that Clemens, Biggio, Bagwell, etc. can finally get a ring and retire and then they'll suck from then on. Or we can root for the White Sox to end their 80+ year curse and get the rings, and then suck from then on. I am getting nostalgic for the Marlins vs. Indians. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think that the two teams that lost in the championship series are more hated than either of the teams that won. People might not care about Houston or the White Sox, but to say that they're hated is laughable. LaRussa alone is probably more hated than either the Astros or White Sox are in their entirety. Re: Instant Reply ... I'm not a fan. Even when not having it hurts my local teams (e.g. that phantom tag by Knoblauch in a Red Sox/Yankees series a few years go) I don't think that it's necessary. The game has existed for years, with the occasional fuck-ups of the umpires ... no need to change now.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted October 20, 2005 More people are apathetic towards Cardinals/Angels. That series would have essentially been a legitimate heatless series. At least with Chicago, people hate how the secondary team from that city got there and not the *real* Chicago team and can find some desire to cheer for Houston, if only because Houston is a cutesy gimmick ballpark and the whole Killer B's thing also because they haven't won one. People complaining about Houston/Chicago need to realize we could have gotten St. Louis Vs LA of Anaheim. If ESPN or FOX bothered to showcase the Astros post-season woes, people might care but they aren't the Cubs or Red Sox so they won't bother.

Shut the fuck up. The White Sox are a real team. Just because the North Siders on here are crying about it doesn't mean everyone in Chicago doesn't want White Sox in there. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 The funny thing is that the White Sox are older than most of the teams in the league, and yet you guys see them as a secondary team. My original post however is that the White Sox are a real team with a real fanbase, and not the kind that Czech and Bob is sporting in their sigs. It would be silly to say no one wants to see the White Sox in the World Series when that's far from the truth. YOU MAY NOT want to see them but I do. Others do. Now let us enjoy this without raining on our parade, a parade it took us since 1959 to get back on... I didn't and wouldn't be such a downer if the Cubs were in our position...well ok the NL position, so I'd appreciate more respect, but knowing some people here, I won't get it. Whatever. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 But if I do, others do too. You're really overgeneralizing it. We did exist. You just didn't pay attention to it. You were busy worrying about the Dodgers or whoever you like. The real "fanbase" of the White Sox aren't usually vocal in the first few months. It's just our mistrusting nature due to the Chicago sports failing us many times. It doesn't mean we just appeared in a vacuum after they made the playoffs. Guest Report post Posted October 20, 2005 The only thing to worry about was if the Dodgers prospects were any good. I'm not just trying to call you out, because the Angels "fans" appeared out of thin air as well during the 2002 playoffs.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 yeah, but isn't that always the way? I've never seen so many Rams and Patriots fans in all my life...i know a gal that has never once, in the decade or so that i've known her, mention the oklahoma sooners, but once 2000 hit and they started getting good again, she was all about them... USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 Other Sox fans on this board and in general might be guilty of appearing out of nowhere but you can't claim that about me. I've had a White Sox avatar or sig since May-June (temporarily taken down for other shit before returning for the playoffs). I've been a Sox fan for a long time, so it does irritate me when people say those things. It's not personal. I don't really care that the team is seen as the redhaired stepchild. It just bothers me that they don't even get any positive attention on them despite them making it to the World Series, unlike another Chicago team in 2003... Guest Report post Posted October 20, 2005 Dodgers, Lakers, Kings and Jacksonville Jags for me (LA teams had just moved when I was old enough to understand football and form an opinion of who I liked, so I chose the new team with a left handed QB).
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 i just think the whole problem is that this world series isn't...what's that already cliche' term...it isn't "sexy" enough...if it were Yanks/Cards or Red Sox/Cards or maybe even Anaheim/Cards, folks would be creaming their pants over it.... At least Houston and Chicago had SOME sort of a story to tell. Anaheim won recently, St. Louis isn't exactly cursed with WS woes. Both have incredibly bland personalities. You might have the Pujols/Vlad arguement but people weren't salivating for it anyways.

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 Why the Braves? Why not Philadelphia? Why not Colorado? Why not a team that actually haven't made the playoffs in a while? Hell, Washington winning it would be a bittersweet story.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2005 I'm with Porter ... just because the Cubs get more national love doesn't mean that they're the only ones that matter. The Cubs are 'lovable losers' that picked up a huge following because they were on almost every day on WGN when it was a nationwide superstation (and literally every day, since they only played day games at home then). The White Sox were a moderately successful team that had an owner that was largely disliked and a stadium that wasn't ~Wrigley~ even though Comiskey was a classic old park. Even now, they play in the projects while the Cubs play in Yuppie-filled Wrigleyville. And F you all for your Pats-fan hatred ... just because a lot of fans jumped on the bandwagon doesn't mean we didn't exist before hand. I didn't sit through games during the Meyer or MacPherson or Berry or Pete fucking Carroll because I like watching bad football.

A team that hasn't won in 88 years vs. A 44 year old team in their first ever Series? I'd call that an interesting matchup, especially with how both pitching staffs looked in the LCS'. I'm actually looking forward to this one. I don't think I'm going to root for a particular team, just for some good games and for there not to be one "questionable" call every game. It just bothers me that they don't even get any positive attention on them despite them making it to the World Series, unlike another Chicago team in 2003... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have watched over 140 of their regular season games and all of their playoff games. I gave summaries of the good and bad things from their first few weeks of games until the board basically told me that they couldn't care less and would rather have endless talk about the Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees. So, I stopped talking about it. But, I didn't stop watching. I have at least 25 friends that I talk to regularly who are just as die-hard about the White Sox as I am, as well. Just because the fanbase isn't large (it is 20th biggest in the nation according to something I read in the newspaper about a week ago) doesn't mean it is nonexistant. I know many people who live and die with the team, just like I do. And it's been a long time coming to have a good team. To be honest, we don't care that you guys think there is only a fanbase starting with this playoff run. We know that we've existed. You may not, and that's not entirely your fault since ESPN only does specials on Red Sox and Cub fans, and Fox and ESPN only focus on the Red Sox and Yankees. It just hurts them in the long run precisely because it leads to this reaction--the one that the board has now. "Who cares about Houston and Chicago?" And it leads to lower ratings. But we don't care--we'll be watching just like we have been all season.
