Fantasy Football Help Redux

Recommended Posts

First playoff week of my league. (we have a two week superbowl)

I played Carson, LaMont, LJ, Jurevicius, and the Vikes' D.

It was a horrific massacre. I still have Marvin Harrison to rub the lye in.

(P.S.) AND Tiki did well on my bench (though i played the right guys). I love my RBs.

Do you get what I mean though, MilleniumMan? I don't go too deep. I look at opposing D's allowed yds (I play in sort of a yardage league, and I like it that way) and my guys' home and away stats, that's pretty much it, but that determines who I play. Should I have not played Jurevicius against Hasselwhack this week? Hell no. If anything, if I'm confident in my other players, I welcome that kind of matchup.

I understand what you're saying. Even though I plunked down $50 at the beginning of the season, I do this mostly for fun.

I understand it's much much much more logical to play Brees or any other solid QB in place of McMahon but I like letting the dice roll. It works out well here and there and I get my ass burned other times.

Last week of the regular season in my league.

Scores haven't been fully tallied to reflect the Colts/Steelers game, but I'm in roughly 5th or 6th place in a 14-team league, which means I'm in one of the last two playoff spots for now.

My opponent is a team with an identical record but has probably scored more fantasy points.

He happens to have Peyton Manning as his QB. That's bad news for me considering the Colts are playing Houston this week.

My team has the following positions sewed up:

QB- Tom Brady (New England)

RB #1- Rudy Johnson (Cincinnati)

WR #1- Roy Williams (Detroit)

WR #2- Joe Jurivicius (Seattle)

TE- Todd Heap (Baltimore)

K- T. Peterson (Atlanta)

DEF- Chicago

I'm iffier about who to use as my #2 RB and my #3 WR.

RBs-

TJ Duckett (Atlanta)

Samkon Gado (Green Bay)

Antowan Smith (New Orleans)

Greg Jones (Jacksonville)

Duckett has been my #2 back for most of the season, when healthy. Him being the team's "vulture", coming in to punch the ball into the end zone instead of Warrick Dunn, has been his main selling point, as 1 TD from him is worth the same as 120 rushing yards in my league.

Jones has the best matchup, against Cleveland, but I'd have to wait for "Fragile" Fred Taylor to be announced as out for this week. If he starts, I figure he's good for at LEAST 1 TD and a bunch of yards, since Jacksonville is without Leftwich for several weeks.

Gado has the worst matchup, against Chicago, but has done the best of the four over the past month. His raw speed may be enough to get him past the tough Chicago D, but I'm more interested in a sure thing than a risky proposition.

Smith is in a better matchup than Gado but plays on a throwing team and hasn't shown much since shortly after taking over the starting position for the Saints. However, weird things usually happen when the Saints play Tampa Bay.

WRs-

Eddie Kennison (Kansas City)

Brandon Lloyd (San Francisco)

Reggie Brown (Philadelphia)

I'm leaning towards Kennison, who's been in my starting lineup for most of the season.

However, he's in questionable matchup this week, against Denver, so I'm exploring my options.

Brandon Lloyd is in a very favorable matchup, against Arizona, but has a questionable QB situation which has lead SF to run the ball more.

Reggie Brown showed flashes of brilliance in his first game subbing for TO, but has since dropped completely off the Fantasy Football radar.

I don't think going up against Seattle this week is going to help him though.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Teke,

First, congrats on getting into the playoffs, hopefully. Yes, Peyton's going to have a field day, but I don't htink they face houston. Tennesse?

Anyways

Kennison's going to draw Champ Bailey, but neither of your other options are that appealing. If you get a pt per reception, then I would roll with Kenny. If you feel badly about that matchup, then Lloyd has a better matchup. Brown is near useless.

As for your RB's, I'm in a similar situation. I actually have Smithand Gado as RB's you do in my friend's league that I am struggling to make playoffs due to injuries. DAMN YOU PRIEST! Anyways, I also have Ricky Williams, and I will likely play him over Gado, due to his matchup. For you, I think Duckett is the safest play, unless you hear that Fragile Freddy is OUT, then by all means, plug in Jones and let him tear for an easy 80 and a score.

EDIT: This week is interesting. The team with Chad Johnson and Alexander is NOT in the playoffs and is in a MUST-WIN to make. I beat the snot out of him last week.

You're right, I meant Tennessee, the ex-Oilers, are the designated ass-rape victims this week.

As for the WR position, I don't play in a point-per-possession league... it's a regular yardage-and-TDs league with no bonus for receptions.

I'm tempted to dump Reggie Brown and pick up Arnaz Battle, who's one of the available WRs on the Free Agent pile right now. Battle was the go-to receiver for San Fran last week and may get some decent looks on Sunday.

BTW, here's my opponent's current lineup:

QB- Peyton Manning (Indy)

RB #1- Tiki Barber (NYG)

RB #2- Willie Parker (Pitt)

WR #1- Terry Glenn (Dal)

WR #2- Anquan Bolden (Ariz)

WR #3- Joe Horn (NO)

TE- Desmond Clark (Chi)

K- Jay "Shank" Feely (NYG)

D- Philadelphia

He's only got three real play-makers on that team... Manning, Barber, and Bolden. Those three, however, will put up a LOT of his points.

Parker is flaky and, besides that, playing a tough Cincy D this week. Add Duce Staley and Bettis being healthy and available into the mix and his fantasy value becomes mediocre.

Glenn is flaky and playing the Giants this week.

Joe Horn has played like shit since he got injured in week 3. Donte Stallworth is now the #1 receiver for NO.

Desmond Clark is a third-tier TE at best.

Feely probably won't be taking too many FG attempts this week to say the least...

Philly is playing Seattle... Between Alexander and Jurivicius, they'll be giving up a LOT of points quick.

According to Yahoo's projections, Manning will score about 23 Fantasy Points this week (284 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT).

Barber will score 10 (About 100 yards on the ground, 16 in the air, and probably a TD) .

Bolden will score 7 points (80 yards and possibly a TD).

Dropped Reggie Brown and picked up Battle.

Unfortunately, SF-Houston is going to be on New Year's.

That puts it just beyond the Fantasy season in my league.

Houston's next 4 are against Baltimore (Already have Todd Heap, can't get Derrick Mason), Tennessee (no good WRs available there), Arizona (ditto), and Jacksonville (Greg Jones could tear their D like a paper bag).

However, SF *IS* playing St. Louis in a few weeks...

If a WR can't score against St. Louis, they don't belong in the league.

This week I'm playin:

Tiki over LaMont (Tiki is just much better at home, LaMont is too.)

Larry johnson

Marvin Harrison (should have a great game.)

Joe Jurevicius (steadily making himself my fave late pickup ever)

LJ Smith

Lindell

Vikes' D (They're going to have a great game)

Here's my dilemma: Palmer vs Aaron Brooks. Carson is obviously for real, and an incredible QB, but the Steelers can, and will fuckin shut down a rival out of sheer bitterness. They're the only team to shut down Carson. They gave him a pity rush TD much to my delight, but Carson was shut down. Meanwhile, Aaron is still alternatingly painful and fun to watch. Wait, he's facing Tampa, go Carson.

Cot Dammit, I lost Rackers, possibly for the season. Shoot.

I am so tempted to pick up whoever is the Cardinal's new kicker...

Still, my team f'ing rules, so whatever. 13-0 baby!

Okay packwingfn, here's my take on your team. You're in a must-win, so that changes things a bit. We're playing to WIN.

QB: (1 QB)

Jake Delhomme (FALCONS)

--The falcons don't have that good of a defense, and they're my homer pick. So that should say something. Steve Smith is due another big one, and I just don't see the falcons containing him. Jake all the way. The other two are subpar fantasy guys.

RB: (2 or 3 RBs)

Willis McGahee (DOLPHINS)

Willie Parker (BENGALS)

Greg Jones (BROWNS)

Ricky Williams (BILLS)

WR: (2 or 3 WRs)

Steve Smith (FALCONS)

Keenan McCardell (OAKLAND)

Bobby Engram (EAGLES)

Terry Glenn (GIANTS)

Derrick Mason (HOUSTON)

Charles Rogers (MIN)

For WR, Steve Smith is a must start. I would go with Bobby Engram, but you could gamble and take Derrick Mason, since Houston makes ANYONE look good. For RB's, if Greg Jones is healthy, play him. Otherwise, McGahee is due, and I'd have to go with Parker over Ricky. In your situation, I would play McGahee, Jones, Smith, Mason, and Engram.

TE:

Jermaine Wiggins

K:

Sebastian Janowski

DEF: (one defense)

Seahawks (eagles)

Patriots (jets)

--Seahawks. The Pats D is terrible

Thanks alot.

Appreciate it.

The only reason I ask about the 2 defenses is that the Patriots ARE playing the Jets but I'll go with the Seahawks.

Is Fred Taylor even playing?? If he is, I am more than likely gonna go with Jones but if he's just being a backup, he woudn't garner me much points. and I'm screwed with a guy with Engram & Keenan because both had STUD running backs so I hate it when they get so close to the endzone with a passing play but end up running it in for the TD (ESPECIALLY when my guy has LT)

Tough decision today...

I'm 7-5 tied with 4 other teams and we are all 1 game back of the 8-4 leader. 10 team league.

I have Carson Palmer and Trent Green as QB's. As was stated before Palmer hasnt been good in Pitt at all and Green is at home vs. the 5th worst pass defense in the NFL. Do I dare start Green over my MVP Palmer in a must win game?

Man, I am SO pissed at Joe Jurevicius right now...

I had a 2 point lead in my game with him as my only player left and the Philly D as the only player left for my opponent.

The problem is that Joe hasn't caught a damn thing all night and, since Philly gets return yardage in my league (50 yards = 1 point) and hasn't gotten into negative points yet (they need at least 6 more points given up by the D), I think I've just gotten edged out of the playoffs.

Well, despite strong performances by Drew Brees and the Panthers' D, I got romped thanks mostly to Lee Evans and TJ Houshmandzadeh.

A lot of parity in our 16-team league:

5 teams finished 8-5

6 teams finished 7-6 (I was among them)

2 teams finished 6-7

while the other 3 fell out of the running weeks ago at 4-9, 3-10, and 3-10

EDIT --- Maybe picking up McNabb and TO on back-to-back picks wasn't such a good idea (Had the last pick of 1st round and 1st pick of 2nd round). :P

Well, at least you had a winning record. That's something. Housh is underrated, imho.

To recap my leagues

Work League (for $$$) 13-0. The 2nd best team is on the other side of the bracket @ #2, and the #3 and #4 teams didn't make the playoffs.

Friends League. Sitting at 8-5 with 2 games to go, right now in 3rd. I must win one of the last two to clinch a playoff spot.

The Pit League. Slackers. I've been beaten by inactive teams, but finished 8-5 to snag 5th place and get into the playoffs.

LJ! LJ! LJ!

Oh yeah. Housh definitely help put the kabosh on my season. The only thing that sucks about a pay-league at work (not that you'll likely have to worry about this) is losing a playoff spot to a guy that makes about $30,000-$40,000 more than you.

It could be worse. My first four picks in the TSM league were the following: Daunte Culpepper, Curtis Martin(everyone starting picking RB's and I panicked), Joe Horn, & Michael Clayton. I am honestly shocked I was able to string together two wins this season.

I was also eliminated this week in my other league. I had a pretty good team, but thanks to injuries to my QB's and my WR's always having to deal to deal with backup QB's unable to throw to them to them, my team never reached it's full potential. How frustrating.

First pick - Jamal - bomb

Second pick - Lamont Jordan - having an awesome season

Third Pick - Anquan Boldin - awesome season when he's played (hurt my team a ton when he was out)

Fifth Pick - Donald Driver - having as good of a year as Boldin..

The rest of my picks sucked though.

League A: Currently 4-9

1. (2) D. Culpepper

2. (23) A. Green

3. (26) B. Westbrook

4. (47) M. Bennett

5. (50) J. Witten

6. (71) Ro. Williams

7. (74) A. Lelie

8. (95) L. Fitzgerald

League B: Currently 9-4

1. (6) D. McNabb

2. (19) M. Harrison

3. (30) J. Jones

4. (43) J. Horn

5. (54) C. Williams

6. (67) R. McMichael

7. (78) J. Arrington

8. (91) A. Lelie

9. (102) Ji. Smith (after his big week 1, i traded him and JJ Arrington for Warrick Dunn)

10. (115) T. Houshmandzadeh

Yeah I'm one of those guys that continues buying Lelie's training camp hype and the talk that this year will be his breakout. I'm finished waiting for his breakout, so everyone keep an eye out for Ashley Lelie's breakout in '06, it's sure to happen now.

I took QBs high because the point systems in both leagues are extremely QB friendly.

I'm not sure of the order of the rest of my picks off the top of my head, but I remember being excited about drafting Mushin Muhammed because I thought he'd have a breakout year. Yeesh, wrong about that one!

Here's my first 5 rounds, I drew #2 overall

1) Tomlinson...nuff said. He passes, catches, and runs. Better than Alexander, imho

2) Tiki Barber...Servicable Number 2 for most of my league. Now relegated to sub and bench duty, but whatta guy to have on the bench!

3) Lamont Jordan...Loved it. Traded him and #5 for Edge and Plaxico.

4) Hasselbeck...Servicable QB. Hasn't disappointed.

5) Fitzgerald...See #2. I miss him, but he was great

oh yeah

9) Larry Johnson...Draft Pickup of the Season

My first 5 picks (drafted 4th)

1) McGahee...well, that was a mistake. Decent yardage, but only 4 TDs?

2) Tiki...better

3) Holt...not bad for a third round pick

4) Reggie Wayne....started out slow, but been producing lately.

5) Brees...not a bad starting QB.

biggest steal: Indy defense in the last round.
