AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 From: Jeremy Parish's 1up blog Super Princess Peach impressions seem to be in demand. So: I had pretty high hopes for the game, being a serious fan of the offbeat Mario platformer spin-offs (specifically Yoshi's Island and Wario Land 2-4 -- and I really like Yoshi's Touch 'N' Go, despite giving it a middling score). So far, SPP hasn't blown my mind, but it definitely has that quirky Nintendo feel. It's more Wario Land than Yoshi's Island -- but it's more Yoshi's Island than Yoshi's Story. Which is good. The graphics and sound aren't anything incredible, but it's colorful and well-animated with enough parallax to make it look like a respectable 16-bit game. The controls are surprisingly loose; Peach seems to slip around a lot when I'm more accustomed to characters who stop on a dime. The touch-screen powers are the main gameplay gimmick. The use of the ablities is limited by a meter in the upper corner (which seems to have grown a bit since the start of the game, though I'm not sure how); you can refill the meter by collecting crystals or "swallowing" enemies. The powers are head-slappingly sexist; since Peach is a girl she's all moody and stuff, and her mood swings give her power. Those powers are, approximately: Elation (hold the A button to fly); Anger (Peach bursts into flames); Sorrow (Peach cries you a river); and Cheer (Peach's life meter slowly recharges). Using these abilities is the key to passing most obstacles, which is where the Wario Land feel comes into play. The other significant element of the game is Peach's umbrella, which she uses to hit enemies, grab enemies, and swim. It can also be powered up to let her charge up an energy shot, "BUTT stomp" and float for a second, Yoshi-style. When you grab an enemy or item, you can set it down or toss it or press down to absorb it into the umbrella and recharge the ability meter. So far, I'm digging it. And I don't feel as though my masculinity has been compromised in any way. (Then again, I like Mr. Driller, so maybe it's too late for me.) Hopefully Nintendo will bring it over -- they're having another Gamer's Summit in a few weeks, which is probably where they'll make it official. So don't go shelling out for an import just yet. Anya 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 Why don't we get a pink DS?
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 We're supposed to get 3 new DS bundles and colors by the end of the year- a red racing themed Mario Kart bundle, and 2 Nintendogs bundles in teal and pink. I really want a pink DS. Purple would be preferred, but pink would be cool, too. I just wouldn't want to be seen playing it in public. As for Super Princess Peach, I've been dying to play this game for months now, and this new info has only served to increase my anticipation. I'll buy it the day it's released. Anya 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 Pink needs to be bundled with Peach, not Nintendogs.
Sideburnious 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 Those Nintendogs Bundles are already out in Europe. As much as I like the DS, I still have no time for handhelds. I just dont like them/see them as value for money.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 SPP hasn't even been announced for the US, so patience...maybe they'll do ya bundle with SPP down the line. I'm sure Nintendo will will be having pink DSes by themselves in addition to the bundles, so worst case you'd have to buy them separately. I doubt it'll top Yoshi's Island, but hardly any games do. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 According to something I read at CAG (not sure of the source, but it came from a Nintendo rep initially) the pink DS systems will be TRU and Target exclusive. I wish i hadn't bought a silver one... I wanted blue with mario, but those were sold out. I need more games, mainly. I've grown tired of Nintendogs, so I mainly just use my DS for Final fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, my only GAB game.
Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 Import Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! for DS if you like eccentric music games.
Ced 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 ^Greatest rhythm game to come up in the longest time. I'm just looking at the preview videos and I already love it.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 Every second bloody DS game is now in a bundle.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 But that's a good thing. People are more likely to buy a system if it comes with a game. Thanksfor the heads up, SO3, on Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! I love eccentric music games.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 A new pseudo-review (really import preview, but whatever): http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3145126&did=1 Still looking awesome.
Anya 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Are the new FF games DS or GBA? Because I need FF III and that'd go far in justifying getting a DS. Bundles are bad when you can't get everything seperatly. However a pink DS + MK game bundle would be incredible.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Are the new FF games DS or GBA? Because I need FF III and that'd go far in justifying getting a DS. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> All of them are, for now, slated for GBA. a pink DS + MK game bundle would be incredible. More retailers should do custom bundles--since you're probably one of 10 people in maybe the entire country who would go for that combo....unless you mean "Mario Kart" when you say MK. Anya 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 That's weak..why still maka GBA games? guess I'll have to dust off the SP. I meant Kombat. But I would get a pink DS/Mario Kart bundle too.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 That's weak..why still maka GBA games? guess I'll have to dust off the SP. I meant Kombat. But I would get a pink DS/Mario Kart bundle too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1. The Micro is out--continuing to support it doesn't hurt. 2. DS plays GBA games, so there an extra incentive for somebody who never picked up a GBA, although I assume most DS owners already had GBAs in some form. 3. Third parties have a wider potential customer base with the GBA than if they make an exclusive DS version. 4. It probably is hard to justify making a game to take advantage of the system if the only thing you're going to do to enhance the experience is stick a map on the 2nd screen. Dawn of Sorrow uses the system's power to make a better looking game with better music, even if the gameplay could be mostly replicated on GBA.
Anya 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Oh yeah I forgot about the Micro. What a pointless machine. Nintendo and their milking of Gameboy is as bad as Capcom.
