Taito Legends came out this week for PS2 and X-Box, and while it may not have the same number of well known A+ games as the Capcom or Midway sets, it does have quite a few memorable classics including Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, Operation Wolf / Thunderbolt (Both sadly without lightgun support) Space Invaders, Qix, and a number of other obscure but awesome games which you'd probobly never play otherwise. This is a steal at 19.99, and easily one of my favorite comps so far. Stay away from Midway Arcade Treasures 3 BTW, it's awful.

Also, since you named it, I assume Bubble Bobble is playable right away--that correct? Just the one version of it, or others?

Any extras and such? I have fond memories of Operation Wolf from playing it at the big arcade on main street in Sauble Beach Ontario when I was a kid but I can't imagine a home version being anywhere near as cool. Bubble Bobble is cool though... I've spent a good chunk of money over the past 3 months with some pre-purchased spending coming up in November so I might just hold on to my money for now but I'm a mark for comps (that don't totally suck) so I'll probably get this in the future.

If there's no Double Dragon then I'll pass. (Even though Gamefaqs says Tatio released the game, "Technos" was the maker. Not sure what this means but it could explain a lot.) Also, who made the arcade Ninja Gaiden from back in the day?

There are some extras, a few video interviews with the game designers, and also th eoriginal advertising flyers for the games as well. Operation Wolf is only so-so with the controller, it's not really bad, but the arcade version with the gun was much more fun.

 

As for Double Dragon, whiule the original Arcade game was developed by Taito, I beleive the license for the series and it's games were eventually aquired by Technos, whose American assets are currently controlled by Atlus. Ninja Gaiden was always a Tecmo game, and is suspiciously absent from the recent, dissapointing, Tecmo arcade collection.

It was great, it still is a blast to pull it out and play in emulation, but the greatest game of all time? Hardly.

Phoenix, Rainbow Islands, Rastan, are better than Elevator Action.

Phoenix is about as legendary a game as they come.

 

When you think about it, 1980 was such a watershed for video games.... you had a LOT of arcade games coming out, and most of them were damned good.
