TNA coming to Philly?

Although discussions were preliminary, TNA's Jeremy Borash broached the idea of running a TNA house show in Philadelphia, PA at the former ECW Arena last night with the building's management prior to the Hardcore Homecoming event.   

 

The idea would be to run in February.  I originally heard it would be the second weekend of the month, but several people pointed out CZW has a date that weekend advertised.  It may be the third weekend instead.  I have heard a date is on hold tentatively with the venue, although the show is nowhere near a definite deal at this time. 

 

Obviously given the history of the venue and its awareness factor among fans, it's a prime location to run a TNA house show.  We'll have more on this as it develops. 

 

 

I think it's great that TNA is considering branching out into house show, and considering that they've picked up quite a few ROH regulars, I think they'll be better received in Philly now than say 2 years ago. I think they should target the northeast and the midwest with their shows though, so I'd say that's a good start. Thoughts?

wait they are just "floating" the idea of doing a house show in Philly? This is such a no brainer i'm now even more worried that the brain trust running TNA is not up to the task.

Probably logistics, whether or not they can get the 6 sided ring in there or something and wrestlers to work it

I know that AJ Styles contract allows them to pull him off other shows in favor of TNA if they are running that day.

 

However...the story when Joe signed (and since then Aries and Strong) is that they can't pull him. I'm not certain if that holds for singular dates...or just that they can't tell him where he can't work though.

 

I get the feeling that any bookings anyone on the roster has set for this day...they'd probably be pulled from.

I know it's a little off topic but let's say ROH keeps expanding as they have been the past few years and a rich investor begins to pump more money in them. Causing them to get a tv deal and basically go national. Would guys like Joe, Aries, etc. still be able to work for them because of the contract stip. or what?

For me, it just seems a little silly when you've got a ton going on and most of your crew lives in Florida to take a 2,000 mile trip to the Northeast for a solitary house show, especially when the Philadelphia fans are probably just going to crap over everything besides their favorites.

The thing is, looking at the current roster, who would the Philly fanbase crap on? Let's just go over a few names.

 

Faces:

Dudleys/Raven/Sabu/Rhino - ECW Legends - Couldn't get booed if they raped the corpse of a twelve-year-old in-ring

Monty Brown - Who doesn't love Monty Brown? C'mon, who can boo a large black man killing people?

Jeff Hardy - This is the only trouble spot I can really see. If he's motivated though...

Naturals - Might get Dynamic Dudes heat. On the other hand, hot match w/ AMW or Team Canada - who knows.

Ron Killings - Um, it's the Internet fans who want Killings pushed more.

Konnan - Goofy charisma. The shoe thing should be in no way over.

B.G. James - Eh, again goofy chairsma.

Lance Hoyt - OK, he might get crapped on.

 

 

Heels:

Jeff Jarrett - A 'Fuck Jarrett' chant would be music to his ears. He's the lead heel, the whole point is for the crowd to hate him - and the Philly crowd will. Just make sure he's not in the main so they won't leave before his match.

AMW - Supertalented so even though they might start out ehh, they'll still get over.

Kip James - Eh, maybe two years ago he'd get slaughtered in front of a Philly crowd, but he's been not unwatchable in TNA.

Abyss - Yes, weird scary men using weapons to main and destroy never get over in Philly.

Team Canada - X-Division types

As long as they weren't running the same day as TNA...then yes.

 

Since TNA only runs every other Tuesday and one Sunday...it wouldn't matter.

 

In the extreme case that both companies grow and start running the same dates...I don't know what would happen to Joe, Aries and Strong. It would be interesting though. I'd imagine that if RoH were to run a show on a Sunday where TNA already had a ppv scheduled...they'd work TNA. But if TNA were to run a Saturday house show when they were already booked for RoH...that would get dicey.

One issue they have to work out in the sound. Shows I've seen recently in the New Alhambra Sports and Entertainment Center (let's get the name right people. ECW is dead. If anything, it's the CZW Arena nowadays), the sound has been terrible and you can't hear the mic work properly. Obviously, TNA has a bigger budget than any of the other shows staged there, but they need to consider it.

 

Also, jesse, guys like Kip and Hoyt will definately be in for the Philly treatment. Jarrett'll love the idea of getting mega heat, sure. But maybe he won't be so big on the idea when he's spent 5 minutes waiting for the fans to stop chanting so he can talk. 3LK will be in trouble, except probably Killings. AMW, definately. Wouldn't surprise me if Monty got a strongly mixed reaction too, seeing as he's pretty crap in the ring and all. Then again, for a house show, things like that won't matter too much. It's if they tape the show they might have the problems.

That sounds like just a sound system issue. Would you know if they're bringing their own sound system or using the house system?

I don't see production value being a problem. I mean WWE did the ONS ppv at a place ECW ran shows at all the time, the difference was WWE's production, not the building itself.

They don't really have to worry about production stuff that much...it isn't going to air.

 

The talent is the show anyway.
