This week in the NBA

Wait until Friday, when the Clips go into the fierce home crowd of your Lakers, and deliver a huge win.  Overcoming the odds, even better than John Cena.

Pfft. Already happened last season. Noone still cared, just like they won't this Friday, although it'll certainly give you few and far between Clips fans a bit of pride, I suppose.

I still don't think they should share the same arena. Clippers don't belong in L.A., seriously. At least stick em in Anaheim or something.

If the Clips go anyplace, it should be a town that appreciates basketball. Hell, St. Louis should have a basketball franchise there, considering how much of a sports town it is.

Why must the uncivilized Eastern conference always be filled with thugs?

 that's unbelievable. I'm so amazed by that question, I can't even answer it.

Let's help everyone forget about the brawl in Detroit by dedicating an episode of OTL to it! Brilliant! *clinks Guinness*

Lets face it, ESPN is going to milk that until its long past dry. Its going to be at least another season, perhaps two, until it can be truly said that it can be put behind them.

And Artest perpetuates it by espousing his "I'm sorry I did what I did, but its everyone else's fault by my own" routine, and letting everyone know who still has any doubts that he is certifiable. Rodman at least did everything he did to agitate and/or get attention, Artest, for all of his sick talent, is straight-up crazy.

Good question, considering that St. Louis had a franchise previously, before I think they moved to Atlanta.

Which also implies that they deserve to get a team just as much as Charlotte did when the Hornets moved to New Orleans, and it also shows that it's about politics and money.

Why did Memphis get a team before St. Louis?  That astounds me.

Stern likes having the NBA be the only game in town, as evidenced by placement in Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Orlando, Charlotte (pre-Panthers), San Antonio, Memphis, and Oklahoma City by next year. The Grizzlies would've been the #4 team in St. Louis, behind the Cardinals, Blues, and Rams. They're #1 in Memphis, and faring quite well at the gate, I believe. The FedExForum is very nice.

Portland sucks, Orlando sucks, Charlotte doesn't support pro basketball like they do college, and Memphis has drawn well (whether that is due to novelty or not, I don't know and we'll find out).

So that's 3 or 4 out of 8. Definitely not most, but near half.

Atlanta is the shittiest market in the US with regard to every sport. I've never seen one game in the Georgia Dome before the Vick era where it was full, the only time Phillips Arena was close to full was during the All-Star game and Braves fans in Atlanta are pretty shitty when it comes to supporting their team.

They're a good team, Memphis seems to like basketball, they should at least draw better than Vancouver. I was in Memphis during the summer, so I can't gauge their media coverage, but I assume they're treated well.

When will Larry Brown learn that his veterans suck ass? Frye, Lee, Robinson Ariza and Marbury playing together give the Knicks a 5 point lead. Take them out midway through the 2nd quarter and to start the 3rd, and the Lakers lead by 9.

Hey Larry, Crawford, Rose, Curry most of the time, Hardaway, Taylor, THEY ALL SUCK.

Portland sucks

you have GOT to be kidding me! Seriously! Are you retarded?!?

Portland has been a strong NBA market since the 70's. It was only recently with all the "Jailblazer" shit that fans started to get turned off. Remember when they had the longest active playoff streak, from like the early 80's to the early 00's? I think it was like 21 years. And yeah, they were pretty much selling out every year, and the fans loved the team.

A couple bad years for the team, some mismanagement with players, and "Portland sucks" as a market

EDIT* and Charlotte is a GREAT basketball market that got screwed by Shinn. They just need to rebuild consumer confidence, that's all.

Sixers win again and go to 6-3.

Few thoughts after having watched most of the Sixers games so far.

1. This team is going to be better than people thought before the year started.

2. Andre Igoudala needs to get more shots. He doesn't seem to care, but he is turning into a good to very good player and can make jumpers, so get him shots.

3. With Kyle Korver and Chris Webber on the floor at the same time, this is a terrible defensive team. Webber is still a pretty good offensive player, but could not guard me. Korver is what he is. A good shooter who can't create his own shot and who isn't very good at D. I'd play him a lot less when Dalembert comes back. The best line-up IMO would be Salmons, AI, Iggy, Webber and Dalembert with Korver coming off the bench for a spark, Nailon and Thomas eatting up some minutes and fouls for the big men and Ollie spelling AI and Salmons when they need a rest.

To make another point about the Blazers, they at one time had the record for most consecutive home sellouts. It's only because they have such a bad perception in the local market that they've struggled with attendance. It has little to do with them being down in talent.

Let's go Clippers!

Note that I'm not biased... because my writing job requires me not to be. But, the Clippers are the best team ever, and I'm so tired of the Pacific division not getting the respect it deserves.

Everyone trolls me, and says the Clippers will fall off... but, I have no doubt that they'll win the rest of their games this year by 20+ points. Because I'm subjective.

About Portland, I obviously know that they had been in the playoffs for a long time because my team usually puts them out every year when they show up. My point was that although it is a good NBA market, it isn't a great market for sports in general.

Charlotte is a great college basketball market, not a great pro basketball market.

Really not true. They had GREAT attendance from like 89-95 or so, led the league in attendance several years, but between trading Zo, trading LJ...George Shinn fighting with the city over a new arena because he wanted taxpayers to pay for the ENTIRE thing, which led to him taking the team to New Orleans, plus he had that "sexual misconduct" thing that was a big scandal....they got burnt out on the Hornets. It's a great basketball market, but when you have a great thing going and a douchebag owner screws you over...it'll take some time for fans to trust the NBA again.

Although only 9-10 games have passed for the league, the balance of power has really shifted to the East. There are just more power teams in that conference. Detroit and Indiana (although their current record doesn't indicate it, they'll be in the mix) are the cream of the crop with Miami right below them. Cleveland, Philly (who have reeled off 6 straight after starting 0-3) New Jersey, Washington, and Milwaukee are the next tier. Hell, just about every team in the Central is a playoff threat.

In the West, the Pacific and Northwest divisions are very shaky. If Amare doesn't go down, the Suns would be a lock. Since that isn't the case, it's wide open. If the Warriors got ambitious, they could possibly pull ahead, but they seem to not perform consistently. (here's a clue, it's because Mike Montgomery doesn't know the pro game very well)Northwest could go any way. The only division with any solidarity is the Midwest with the Texas Triangle teams and Memphis as the power teams.
