UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 Just watched this 3-Hour gem, leading up to Spring Stampede 1998... 1. High Voltage No-Contest Enos & Bloom. Giant chokeslams everyone after 5 boring minutes. 2. Saturn over Finley via submission. Just so exciting. I love how WCW puts tweeners/heels to face each other for 7 minutes. 3. Jericho over Jannetty via submission. Match lasts 1 minute. 4. Prince Iaukea pins Glacier. Oh man. 5. Juventud Guerrera pins El Dandy. Dandy is SO SLOW. Match is awful. 6. Chavo pins Kaz Hayashi. Crowd sleeps. 7. "Buff" Bagwell over Raven by countout. Bagwell's entrance is longer than the match. 30 seconds, Raven runs away from DDP. 8. Disco pins Kidman after an AWESOME piledriver. Good, but they'd do much better later in the year. 9. Jim Neidhart over Curt Hennig by DQ. 6 minutes or so, as long as their 1989 matches, and a zillion times slower and embarassing. 10. Booker T 10-minute time limit draw Benoit. Crowd shits on Booker post-match. This was OKAY, not as good as anyone would think. 11. Psychosis over Ultimo Dragon by DQ in 2 minutes. Flock interference. 12. Goldberg pins Ray Traylor in 2 minutes. 13. Nash & Savage over Sting & Luger. Nash pins Luger after Disciple interferes. Not only was the match awful, but Sting was just beat up at ringside the entire match (booking the World Champ strong), and Luger was beat up INSIDE the ring for like 8 minutes. 14. Piper over Hogan by DQ in 7 minutes. Disciple interferes. Nash holds Piper for Hogan to punch him. Nash, being 7 feet tall or so, has Piper held so that Piper's head is at Nash's mid-section. Hogan throws punch, Piper "ducks", and OMG HE HITS NASH! Embarassing. * One note...this is the "Jericho reads 1,004 holds" off Nitro, although it was much shorter and less funny than we remember. * Idiot Note: Heenan: "Just imagine what Thunder is going to be like! Who knows what is going to happen! Oh wait, there isn't even a Thunder this week!"

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 http://otherarena.com/htm/cgi-bin/history....000/nitro041700 Actually, pretty much every show from this period of time. Proof positive that Russo doesn't know a single thing about wrestling other than knowing how to make it bad.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 bravefan, that show you linked is what I just watched, and detailed in the post above you. Something else that just disgusted me. Public Enemy, on the Nitro where Goldberg defeats Hogan for the World Title, coming out wearing ATLANTA BRAVES jerseys. Public Enemy. Hailing from Philadelphia. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 If that one Nitro has the Jericho "1004 holds" schtick it can't possibly be the worst. How could anyone forget the Fingerpoke of Doom Nitro? Actually I'd say pretty much any of the shit they were turning out in mid 1999 is easily worse than those 1998 shows. The Hummer angle, Rap vs. Country...it's like a who's who of wrestlecrap. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 The Jericho "1,004" holds angle lasted all of 1 minute. And ended, after the commercial break, with Prince Iaukea getting ON THE MIC, threatening Jericho, and Jericho leaving, afraid (?!). The 1,004 holds thing was horrible, IMO. When they returned from the break, Jericho was still reading the first page, but was on hold # 730 or so. Lame. ________ From that same Nitro. When discussing the #66 (about Goldberg). Heenan: "66. Wasn't that Wayne Gretzky's number?" Tenay: "Why, why yes it was!" Heenan: "See, they're both great ones!"

The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 That's so weird because the first show that was mentioned is the only WCW Monday Nitro I have on tape. I rewatched it recently, looking for my tape of WrestleMania XIV. I have no idea who taped it and why.

Guest Ransome Report post Posted November 18, 2005 I know there have been terrible episodes of Raw this year, but I honestly can't pinpoint any of them. All the suckitude just seems to have blurred together in my mind. As I was skimming the Raw archives, I rediscovered this August 23rd 2004 RAW. On paper, it looks terrible: - Only two matches in two hours (Edge vs Jericho (bad match with a DQ finish) and Regal vs Flair) - Diva Search pie-eating contest, featuring a disinterested Rock and La Resistance - Extremely long Triple H interview - Kane/Lita wedding (despite Trish's famous outfit choice)
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 if we're talking worst segments...HHH in particular...I don't think anything he's done will ever top the one earlier this year when he was rocking back and forth in a chair in the center of the ring... cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Hey, the Jericho 1004 holds skit may have just been a minute or two but that's at least a couple mins. of fun Jericho stuff. That's better than the Fingerpoke show or half the garbage that was on Nitro in 1999. As far as the Raws in 1999, at least people liked those shows at the time. Maybe they don't hold up with time though. Lushus, I don't remember much about the HHH rocking chair interview. Then again, when I see HHH alone in the ring with a mic in hand I tend to either tune it out or change the channel.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 i believe it was before WM this year...if not WM it was before one of the 3 title matches with Batista...he drags a damn chair into the ring and just sits there, yammering on and on and on and on, worse than he usually does...he's out there so long he actually props one arm up behind the chair, kicks his feet out and begins to rock it back and forth...other than Katie Vick related shit, it was probably his worst promo ever... When they returned from the break, Jericho was still reading the first page, but was on hold # 730 or so. Lame. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In all fairness, the problem with the segment is that Jericho's mic kept cutting off and on so it came across a little awkward. IIRC, When the pyro for hour 2 cranked up, the mic was turned off . . . then back on when it was finished . . . then back off when Iaukea came out . . . then back on as he entered the ring. The segment definitely got great heat, especially after the break. Plus, watching it as it happened, who would expect Jericho to STILL be in the ring after the commercials? Plus, it led up to the "You're too FAT to be a Cruiserweight!!!" angle w/ Iaukea.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2005 Don't get me wrong, Jericho's WCW run as Cruiserweight titleholder is like, IMO, one of the top 5 most creative characters ever, I loved it. I have the Georgia Dome Nitro where Goldberg wins the title on tape. Jericho and Malenko in the ring. Neither can TOUCH THE OTHER or they're outta their Bash at the Beach match. OF COURSE Malenko won't actually touch Jericho, right? Can't SCRAP the match. Jericho goats him. "blah blah...you're a jobber...your dead father sucks..." Malenko is furious. "He's just trying to bait you! You're smarter than this! be the ICEMAN!" yells JJ Dillon to Malenko. Finally, cooler heads prevail...they're about to leave. Jericho: "Oh, one more thing. Dean, you and I are a lot alike. Your father was a great athlete, as was mine. Thus, we both grew up without our dads around. It had to be hard for Mr. Malenko to be all alone on the road. His wife not there. I mean, have you ever wondered, Dean, why you and your brother look ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ALIKE?" Malenko SNAPS, ripping Jericho's hair out, assaulting him. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2005 The best moment of 2004 for me was Benoit/Eddie's WM celebration. The best moment of 2004 to my casual friends was that ridiculous song that played for Kane & Lita. They still mock it at random all the time. "She's havin' my baby!" "What a lovely way to say I love you!" "Well she's havin' my baby!"
