The Dames Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I've already got a back up in place, got a Flash drive all set, but I need a new replacement Hard Drive. But what brand should I get? I hear that Western Digital is one of the most well known, but they give you problems... I want something reliable. Hook me up! Dames
Guest guerillagenius Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 im a fan of seagate, made right here in Minnesota.
Guest Leelee Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I also like Seagate. Usually tend to be the cheapest, as well. Just got a 160GB one for $50.
MrRant Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I'm going to assume you are using IDE so here is a Maxtor 160GB for $76 and $3.49 3 day shipping - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144181
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 If you have the ability to get SATA, though, get it. It's a lot faster of an interface and it's not that much more expensive. You can get a 250 gig for 90 bucks on Newegg. Or, if you're going for the most reliable/best performance, go for a Western Digital Raptor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144160 -- Raptor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144154 -- 250 gig SATA.
Cran Da Maniac Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 I've seen more Seagates fail then anything. Go with the Western Digital.

admin Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I prefer IBM's drives; they tend to have a 3-5yr warranty, nice speeds, and cache. This server use to run off two 80 GB drives in a raid. I would also recommend getting the extra PCI-SATA card for the little extra cost, you should notice a difference. PM me if you have other questions. Nice to see you around.
Guest Vitamin X Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 PCI-SATA card? How does that work, and what's a good one to get?
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Basically, it adds SATA connections through the PCI slot. It might not be quite as fast as SATA alone, but it's still better than IDE.
