Jacksonville plays Houston and Tennessee. Fat chance that they lose one or both, which is what would need to happen to keep them out.

Here's my 16-team playoff scenario

Division leaders host runners-up for the first round

Division champions are re-seeded for the second round

No further re-seeding for the championship games

Super Bowl

So if you look at the standings right now, the only runner-up that doesn't deserve a postseason berth is 5-9 St. Louis. The other seven are solid.

If the Pats win their final 2 games then you can't call them the Padres of football. I mean, the Padres barely got in while the Pats would have gone 6-0 in their own conference. If they lose both games then ya, they're the Patriadres.

Hey now, I thought the Bears are the Padres of football!

If they lose tonight they have a case for it. If they win though, then that honor goes to New England (record-wise).

Nah. Tom Brady and Tedy Bruschi are God's children. And din't you hear? THEY'RE BACK!!! I didn't know they were ever gone. BUT THEY'RE BACK

I like "Pistriots" better as far as Pat-hybrid names go, since the Detroiters are co-opting the whole "WHYYYYYYY DON'T WE GET RESPECT" thing when they are, in fact, respected.

There aren't

When I was using it, I meant a team winning their division with a .500-or-worse record. Near the beginning of the year before their win streak it looked like Chicago might do that (when everyone was ragging on the North before Chicago and Minnesota went on their runs), but not anymore.

Good thing that Indy lost.

Wasn't surprising... watched the 1st half, and they were pretty flat. It's not like SD did anything different. Chargers are a very tough team, when they want to be. If that was a meaningful playoff game for the Colts, I believe they win that game.

Now, rest your starters. And win the SB.

Ouch.

Also, I don't believe in resting your starters for 3 whole weeks. They should play some in each of their final games.

I don't believe in tanking your last 3 games. I might rest some guys next week since it's Christmas Eve, but I'd get my guys back and kick the ever loving shit out of the Cardinals in the closer. You can't end the season on a 3 game losing streak, and most certainly can't lose to the friggin Cardinals.

Dear God, the Vegas linemakers know their business. I saw that Seattle/Tenn game with the Seahawks favored by 7 and laughed, saying it was ridiculous and that Seattle would kill them. Then they win by 4. WTF?

Heh, Jags win over the Niners 10-9. What a classic that must have been. That game in the playoffs with NE would be a low scoring shitfest.

And yeah, I'd say Dallas is basically done after today. All this did was practically clinch the NFC East for the Giants.

That win today really didn't do much for SD I don't think. Look, Denver isn't going to lose to the Raiders next week, no way in hell. And the Steelers seem back on track so they shouldn't lose to Cleveland or Detroit. Even if the Steelers DID lose we're assuming SD beats KC on the road and then Denver too in order to make the playoffs. In short, they are still fucked.

With Leftwich and Fred Taylor back, things would be much different.

Many playoff games are low scoring to begin with (they will be this season), so I don't exactly see why you would mind a "low scoring shitfest" unless you hate playoff football.

I'll give you the 21 point per game average, but it definitely wasn't that low before Leftwich got hurt.

Hey if Manning can lead them back to win this game maybe he will be considered to be in Brady's class!

Depends if the officiating crew hands him the game on a silver platter like they do for Brady!

Yes, because the Patriots ALWAYS cheated their way to championships. [/sarcasm]
