I'm guessing after reading that article that the likeness was done on purpose.

yes, the mask was indeed modeled after Guy Fawkes in the comic. Boy I wonder how much the right-wingers are gonna rip this movie apart?

 

From what I see, it looks fairly faithful to Alan Moore's brilliant comic. I can see actual scenes and plot points straight from it. Natalie Portman looks like an inspired casting choice and Hugo Weaving is a great "V".

Why would they tear it apart? I haven't read the comic so you'll have to enlighten me.
