theintensifier 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2005 Recentley my DVD/CD-RW drive has stopped reading disks and makes playing video games impossible. I'm going to try system restore, and see if that works. I have XP for an operating system.
Guest Leelee Report post Posted December 19, 2005 I fail to see how System Restore will improve your DVD/CD reading capabilities. Also, I know some kids say System Restore is a great thing... but, if you're gonna use it, be sure to run virus/trojan checks at least every week, because System Restore is a harbor for tons of icky malware like that. theintensifier 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2005 It can play DVD's, and CD's right now. Just not video games. It's so weird, it sometimes let's me play them, but then sometimes not.

Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 (edited) They're not that expensive. Newegg.com is your friend. Also, restore CAN help, if it's a driver conflict caused by a program you installed. Otherwise, you're screwed. Guest Leelee Report post Posted December 23, 2005 Also, restore CAN help, if it's a driver conflict caused by a program you installed. Otherwise, you're screwed. That can happen. Did once to me when lovely Windows Update changed my graphics card drivers to something weird. But, I think it's easy enough to search for the proper drivers online and replace them through Device Manager. not a Windows Restore a Complete System Restore...get all teh settings back to how it was when you first took the comp out of the box. Nah. He shouldn't format because of this. The likely problem is that his drive is shot. They're less than $50 in stores.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 oh I wasn't suggesting, I just don't think he understood what was suggested of him...I'd definently try a new driver, internal ones are usually pretty cheap...
