According to the January 29 issue of The Wrestling Tribune, the WWF has begun plans to start a martial arts federation, the World Martial Arts Federation. This seems to be WWF's answer to the UWFI's Shootwrestling that has become extremely popular in Mexico and California. The WWF sent notices to acting agencies in Hollywood last month to look for actors that are efficient in martial arts style fight scenes. This promotion would be booked, but would attempt to look real for the marks. They are planning on keeping win-loss records for each participant to give the impression that it is a real sport. The WWF plans to have hour-long weekly programs available for syndication by the end of the year. Hopefully, this product will be better than the World Bodybuilding Federation - which was a complete disaster for Titan Sports.

...Anyway, this was a combined toy and videogame conference.

One of the attendees was Leisure Concept, which makes action figures for the WWF. Well, it seems LCI and Titan Sports have a 50/50 agreement to start the World Martial Arts Federation (WMAF). Vince was smart. Someone else can take half of the loss. :-)

Quoted from Usenet posts from December 93/January 94.

Does anyone know anything about this venture?

UFC had just started and was a big cult deal, so Vince wanted to try and get in on the action. The WMAF never happened, but Vince did give us Kama The Supreme Fighting Machine instead, which was a UFC gimmick for Charles Wright, aka The Godfather, with the name being rip-off of Kimo.
