Damaramu Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 So is this the end of doin' it for the conference? That was an ugly, technically miserable, and absolutely perfect field goal. I'll only do it for the conference when it makes OU look good or is against USC. OU beat a Top 10 team this season so fuck the conference. And if USC wins...fuck it anyway OU won and that's all that really matters to me. So anyway I think OU should be independent so we can seperate ourselves from these pussies and their stupid fucking refs. The Big XII had a ton of game stoppages due to replay and they have a good ole' boy system with the replay officials so a lot of these calls aren't overturned because they don't want their boys on the field to look bad. Just watch the OU/Tech game to see how shitty the Big XII's officials are! They pulled some shitty officiating in the Texas/A&M game and the Colorado/Nebraska game as well. And I forgot we had a Bama fan on this board. Well played sir. That defense is nasty.
Damaramu Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Bama wins the game like they've won other big games this year....with a field goal. Texas Tech's "improved" defense can go to hell. That's just dumb to let them drive down the field and hit that field goal. They were on the 15 for gods sake. Man fuck Texas Tech. Man fuck every other team in the Big XII. Bunch of pussies. I'm going to petition for OU to be independent. *wonders off to draw up the neccessary paper work* God damnit Dama, you take College Football too seriously. Calm down dude, these games mean nothing because there is no playoff. It's meaningless exhibition game. SPORTS ARE MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!! *breaks down sobbing* My ex-gf asked me if I wanted to hang out today. I told her no b/c of football and she said "you're the only person I know that plans their life around sports". I do go as far as to make sure I'm off work for all the big games.
AboveAverage484 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Two Bama fans. I just hate discussing games on message boards.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Someone explain how Wisconsin is giving a complete beating to Auburn? This is the one score so far I just can't figure out.
AlwaysPissedOff Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Answer's simple. Tubberville spent too much time bragging about beating Bama that he forgot to gameplan for this week... heh. As far as I'm concerned, fuck the conference shit, I hope Wisconsin embarrasses the living hell out of Auburn.
AlwaysPissedOff Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Damn, Louisville is handing VT their asses today, 24-13.
Damaramu Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Remember when people were saying maybe VT should be ranked 2 ahead of Texas?
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 24-21 after a Superman pass from MVII and a big run on the next play. The people who said VT should be ranked ahead of Texas obviously hadn't been paying attention to who VT played, or really thought Georgia Tech was something great.
AlwaysPissedOff Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 WOW. Nice sack and caused fumble by VT.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Here's a question: can anyone remember a year where we have both: 1. so many highly-ranked preseason teams be exposed as frauds (Michigan, Tennessee, Iowa, Oklahoma, etc.) AND 2. so many teams fly up the rankings as they went on hot streaks only to come crashing back down (Michigan State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Fresno State, etc.)
AlwaysPissedOff Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Damn, touchdown VT. Baby Vick with a nice pass to the TE.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Here's a question: can anyone remember a year where we have both: 1. so many highly-ranked preseason teams be exposed as frauds (Michigan, Tennessee, Iowa, Oklahoma, etc.) AND 2. so many teams fly up the rankings as they went on hot streaks only to come crashing back down (Michigan State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Fresno State, etc.) It happens every year, but this year is so much more noticeable because many of the fraudulent teams were traditional powers (or in the case of Iowa, a recent and consistent program). I mean, Purdue was ranked in the top 15 to start the year too, but they were a pretty typical "this team has potential!" mix-up. Michigan with 5 losses? Tennessee finishing under .500? Those are the big shocks.
Bored Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 I think I'll do some research on preseason rankings vs. pre-bowl rankings but here is 2005 Preseason AP Top 25 and where they finished in parenthesis (using it since there is obviously no preseason BCS). One thing that is definently out of the ordinary was now back-to-back years the preseason #1 and #2 were the same going into the bowls. 1. USC (1) 2. Texas (2) 3. Tennessee (NR) 4. Michigan (20) 5. LSU (10) 6. Ohio State (4) 7. Oklahoma (26) 8. Virginia Tech (12) 9. Miami (9) 10. Florida (16) 11. Iowa (25) 12. Louisville (15) 13. Georgia (8) 14. Florida State (22) 15. Purdue (NR) 16. Auburn (7) 17. Texas A&M (NR) 18. Boise State (28) 19. California (31) 20. Arizona State (NR) 21. Texas Tech (18) 22. Boston College (19) 23. Pittsburgh (NR) 24. Fresno State (29) 25. Virginia (NR) Not in preseason Top 25: #3 Penn State, #5 Notre Dame, #6 Oregon, #11 West Virginia, #13 Alabama, #14 TCU, #17 UCLA, #21 Wisconsin, #23 Clemson, #24 Georgia Tech
Bored Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) Hey first double post ever, I think. Edited January 2, 2006 by Bored
Slayer Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Come on, you can't have gone three years without making at least one other double post
Bored Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 Okay so to answer my own question this is the first time ever that the preaseason AP #1 and #2 have been the same going into the bowls in back-to-back years. Before 2004 the last time #1 and #2 were still the Top 2 was 1970 with Ohio State and Texas although they flipped spots during the season. The last time they were the exact same was 1951 with Tennessee and Michigan State. So I'd say it is safe to say whoever is preseason #1 and #2 next year that one of them will not be there at the end of the season.
Damaramu Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 What about OU and USC? Yeah Auburn tied OU but OU never dropped from #2 last season. Are you guranteed the #3 spot if you lose the title game? Because OU has finished #3 two years in a row.

EDIT: As for your second question, Virginia Tech lost the championship game to FSU and finished ranked 2nd. Unless the game is a complete blowout I imagine whoever loses the Rose Bowl this year will finish 2nd. Last year was different because Auburn finished the season undefeated so it made sense that they finished ahead of a 1-loss team. Edited January 2, 2006 by Hogan Made Wrestling
Damaramu Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Classy move by Alvarez to take a knee on the goal line.
CanadianChris Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 We don't want to hang with these p?
cabbageboy Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Man, fuck Virginia Tech. We had that one won today until Hunter Cantwell revealed why he's a backup redshirt freshman. Oh yeah guys, great win beating U of L without Brian Brohm after being down for the entire game. Eat a dick, Marcus Vick. Do I seem bitter? After this shit I frankly wish Petrino would flirt with the SEC or the NFL again. How hard is it to simply hand the ball off to Michael Bush in the 4th quarter and run the clock out with a lead? Instead we had Cantwell out there trying to make plays that he's simply not capable of at this point, and it bit us in the ass.
Damaramu Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Who does everyone have in the Fiesta Bowl? I don't think we have any tOSU or ND fans on this board do we? I picked tOSU but I wouldn't be shocked to see ND win.
Slayer Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 I don't think we have any tOSU or ND fans on this board do we? Given the wide reaches of the ND fan base, I'm honestly surprised we don't have any Domers here
Urban Warfare Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 "Ohio State would have had a better chance against Ohio State if Troy Smith was starting" Umm, okay Brent.
mike546 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 His longest run of the year was EIGHT YARDS!?!? How is the OS OC not going to be fired after this season?
therealworldschampion Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Musburger has been so awful in this game that I'm ready to bust out the drinking game named in his honor...
Conspiracy_Victim Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) Looks like Ginn's going to get a workout today. Jerry Rice pimping Dancing With the Stars makes me sad for some reason. Edited January 2, 2006 by Conspiracy_Victim
Bored Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 The referees telling essentially ABC to keep the overhead camera off the field in the middle of the game and Musburger and Danielson going completely slient just made me giggle.
mike546 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Jesus, thats like 8 dropped passes for ND.
