2006 NFL Off-Season

There's a rumor that the Jets will trade up to the 1st pick, the Texans will take D'Brickshaw with the 4th, and the Jets would draft Leinart with the 1st. Yeah, I don't get it. Why not just draft Bush with the 1st?

If they are trading up to #1, I'd have to think they ARE taking Bush. It sounds more and more everyday that the Texans want more picks but they'll use the #1 if the offers aren't there.

But going up to #1 to take Matt? Seems silly.

As for Ricky, if you are really shocked then stab yourself in the eye with a fork.

are the Jets doing anything about that ridiculously huge contract that Chad "Made Of Glass" Pennington is sporting? Kinda hard to sign a guy like Leinart without money, no?

I haven't paid too much attention to it, but there's some buzz in NYC that they may just bite the bullet and cut him if he won't redo his deal. Some of his teammates have thrown him under the bus already, and if he's going to be stubborn they might just be better off without him.

I can't believe the Chargers are thinking of letting Brees go. I know they've got Rivers, and as an ACC fan I know how good he might be, but he's never even started a game. Unless they know something about Brees' surgery that we the general public don't, I don't know how you let a top-10 QB go in favor of his untested back-up. Unless Brees is looking for Manning/Brady money, you've got to keep him.

Brees was a decent passer before the injury, and most cases, quarterbacks coming from a shoulder injury never really return to their top form again. Of course there are exceptions, but AJ Smith, the Chargers' GM, is not the kind of person to sign an uncertainity to something that could potentially be an albatross on their necks.

Antwaan Randle El, who averaged 15.9 yards on 35 catches and returned two punts for touchdowns, was offered a new contract by the Steelers, but he plans to test the market. He is looking for a chance to be a No. 1 receiver -- and be paid like one.

This year's stats: 35 catches 558 yards 1 TD

He's great as a punt returner and for the occasional trick play, but he's a pretty mediocre #2 receiver. I think he's more suited to be a #3 than anything else. I can see that Super Bowl TD pass getting him way more money than he ever should, but paid like a #1?

Wonder if the Falcons will sign him like they signed Peerless.

Randle El is not a #1, I think he'll continue to develop into a very good #2 but he'll never be a #1 option.

As for Brees, I can see where the Chargers are coming from. They want Brees I'm sure but no way are they going to lay out a big deal for him when they don't know what his condition is. And I don't see him taking another one year deal. The Chargers are truthfully in a good spot with the two quarterbacks and if someone does take the risk on Brees, then they move up Rivers to #1 and see what happens.

I really like Randle El, but the Steelers can probably afford to let him go if it comes to that. He's a really good #2 for the Steelers' system right now, but replaceable. There a whole lot of players very much like him in this year's draft, like Michael Robinson and Marques Hagans, who'll be converting from QB to all-purpose guys and can probably be picked up for cheap on the second day.

I'm not altogether too sure about that. In my opinion, the Jets would be better off letting Pennington go and then pursuing Drew Brees (a former New York Yankee) rather than drafting a new quarterback.. and of course, then taking Reggie Bush that is, if he's not reunited with high school teammate Alex Smith in San Francisco, but I've heard that San Francisco is actually pretty happy with keeping around Kevan Barlow and more importantly Frank Gore. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but okay.

Positive. Although to be honest, it's all of what I remember from reading an ESPN article on him years ago. Maybe it's that he never went beyond the minors, but as far as I know, he was at least in their minor league system.

Eric Moulds is washed up in my opinion. He is going to ask for too much money and my guess will sit out until a week before the season starts.

Eagles should go after Eric Moulds.

Not really the Eagles style to go after a 33 year old on the decline.

I could go for them picking up David Givens.

I see the arguement for Randle El (versatility), but that should be the last thing on the Eagles mind right now. Their concern should be getting a WR who is good at being a WR. I love Reggie Brown and think Pinky is fine at the #3, but if they are your two WRs you can't screw around with wanting to have a slash type/gimmicky WR. Brown/Givens/Pinkston would be a workable three receiver set, IMO.

I'll also throw in that they need to get Steve Hutchinson too. After that if they still have room go get Will Witherspoon, if not they can address that as one of their holes (DL, LB, KR) in the draft.

Huh. Apparently Vince Young scored a whopping 6 on his Wonderlic. A 6. The lowest score EVER recorded for a QB (beating out Akili Smith). That might hurt his draft status a bit, maybe even dropping him behind Cutler.

Local newspaper hack reporting Young took it again and scored a 16. Better, but still not that great.

Wait a minute, I guess I was talking about Drew Henson.

Mybad.

Both of them played in the Big 10 and both played baseball in college. What the fuck's going to happen with Henson in Dallas, anyways?

Basically an IQ test with 50 questions that you have 12 minutes to do which most don't complete. Average score for a quarterback is 24.

He's done, the Boys management has more confidence in Romo than Henson now. They sent Henson to Europe to see if he has any skills whatsoever.

Watching the combine, if I'm an NFL scout then I'm taking Ingle Martin from Fordham in the mid to late rounds. That guy looked very impressive, ran a strong 40 time, looked very accurate with power and touch on his passes. Gardowski either looked nervous or confused by instruction. Jacobs throwing motion is scaring even me now, Kellen Clemens was kinda up and down, Jay Culter looked as impressive as expected, Croyle looked miserable and Drew Olsen is kinda slow.

So having done absolutely nothing, how much money did he manage to sucker out of the Cowboys? I remember a couple of years ago him wanting a giant 10-year contract or some bullshit like that, but don't remember what he actually got.
