Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2006 Please don't tell me they are planning Gaffney to be the #1 WR. I'll shit a brick! We need someone like Walker or Moulds to help attract double coverage, to free up openings for Reggie Brown!
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2006 I don't think they are planning anyone to be the #1 at this point. It seems apparent that they are going for the Patriots style of receiving corps (a few #2s). I like the signing on the condition that they draft someone to develop this year. Brown/Gaffney/Pinkston with Lewis and draftee competing for the 4th spot is fine. The fact he put up respectable numbers in that abortion of a Houston passing game is encouraging. Not even TO could rack up yardage in their dead set three set drop passing game.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2006 Well, given Gaffney's departure (I was hoping the Texans would get him back) I think that drafting Bush would actually fill a need now. I see Bush as a flex-type player who can either lineup at receiver, split out from the backfield, or play running back. Considering that the top 3 WRs are now Andre Johnson (who needs someone to take some of the pressure off him), Derrick Armstrong (glue for hands, but separation is questionable) and Jerome Mathis (all kinds of speed, but mediocre route running) I can see the Texans justify taking Bush as a "need" pick. They might even take another receiver later on in the draft, like a Derek Hagan or Mike Haas. Plus, the Bengals still haven't matched their offer on Kevin Walter who might provide some decent depth. Combine that with a pass catching TE (paging Jeb Putzier or 2nd round pick) and I'd feel a little better about the Texans offense.
4hartthreat 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2006 My dad's friend talked to Mickey Loomis, the GM of the Saints, yesterday and he said they are in serious talks with the Jets about the Jets getting the 2nd pick. The deal being discussed is apparently swapping of first round picks and Vilma to the Saints. And as of this moment, the Saints are targeting Mario Williams with their first pick. SpikeFayeJettEdBebop 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 Damn. I'd say that would be a hell of a deal for the Saints. Vilma and they move up what? 4 spots?

teke184 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 If the Saints get a player of Vilma's quality of only moving down 2 spots in the draft, then that's a fucking STEAL... D-Line, LB, and the O-Line are the biggest holes remaining. By picking up an All-Pro in Vilma, that fills a hole while also putting them in position to pick up D'Brickashaw Ferguison or AJ Hawk. If the Saints pull off another trade-down from there, they could end up filling another need. For example, the Raiders may decide they want that 4 spot in order to pick up the remainder of Leinart, Young, and Cutler.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 Alright I gotta admit, I was pretty hard on this Gaffney cat. Problay because I haven't seen pratically any Texans games. I just want the Eagles to comeback and take the divison. I really doubt that the Jets would be that stupid to get rid of their franchise player, just to move up 2 spots. Vilma is the type of defensive player to build the defense around.

Just because your over-the-hill quarterback is finally getting his ass out of the nfl and taking his 20+ interceptions a year with him is no reason for you to be an asshole. Mickey Loomis isn't exactly some big sports figure who it would be impossible to have a converation with. He has a relative that plays for the Tulane baseball team and my dad's friend's son plays for Tulane, so they know each other from going to watch the games, and they had a discussion about it at a game. I didn't say it was definately happening, I just said that he said that was what they were looking at trying to do right now. Now why don't you see if your friend's dad's barber's doctor's uncle's nephew's cousin can hook you up on date with Favre, because if you don't get the chance to suck his cock now, pretty soon you'll have to come all the way down to Mississippi to get another chance. The General Manager of a professional football team isn't "exactly some big sports figure"? Also, posting news from "my dad's friend" isn't exactly a credible source, nor is your complete and total overreaction, so next time you go off on blithering middle-school level "sucking cock" insults, think about WHY someone could say such a thing! I'm sure Mickey Loomis and your dad's friend have more to say on the subject if they'll ever come back from their important meetings to give you further updates on the Saints organization and what they're planning on doing in the draft! 4hartthreat 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 The General Manager of a professional football team isn't "exactly some big sports figure"? Hahahaha. He's the GM of the New Orleans Saints. We aren't exactly talking about the Yankees or the Red Sox or even your beloved Packers here. To borrow a phrase often used on PTI, 99.9% of all New Orleanians wouldn't know Mickey Loomis if he walked up to them wearing a sign that said "Hi, I'm Mickey Loomis." Also, posting news from "my dad's friend" isn't exactly a credible source, nor is your complete and total overreaction, so next time you go off on blithering middle-school level "sucking cock" insults, think about WHY someone could say such a thing! Oh, I completely understand why someone might take my post with a grain of salt, but again, you didn't have to be a dick about it. But I guess instead of hurling "middle-school level" insults at you, I should have resorted to mature, completely original jabs like your gut-busting "hey guys, my friend's doctor's etc. said blah blah blah!" Man, where ever did you come up with that gem??? I'm sure Mickey Loomis and your dad's friend have more to say on the subject if they'll ever come back from their important meetings to give you further updates on the Saints organization and what they're planning on doing in the draft! I think they are done meeting for the day, but if you'd like when they have another meeting I can see if he'll talk to Loomis about hooking you up with that date with Favre. Surely Favre wouldn't turn down a request from Mickey "sports legend" Loomis. But when you go down on him, I'd be careful because if he shoots his load with anywhere near the same accuracy that he's throwing passes these days, he'll end up hitting your mom's face instead of yours. He's still the GM of the New Orleans Saints. He's still the guy making or breaking deals for that team, and he'd be the guy making or not making that trade you mentioned. Oh, I completely understand why someone might take my post with a grain of salt, but again, you didn't have to be a dick about it. Man, where ever did you come up with that gem??? Or you could have just resorted to not responding at all to what was a completely sarcastic, impersonal joke referencing another dimwitted individual in the NBA threads claiming Tracy McGrady was going to be a Laker by the trading deadline, his source being, of course, his "friends in the Laker organization". See how I would make that connection? I won't even bother responding to the rest of your post considering you're only repeating the same half-assed, unoriginal, futile "insults", so I'll just leave it at this: Don't take it so personally, and if you're going to post some news like that, have it at least be a credible source, and if not, just say you're speculating on it, don't pass it on to us as if it's some kind of exclusive insider scoop with possibly no factual basis. It's kind of hard to believe a GM would just casually talk about trading their #2 overall draft pick for Jonathan Vilma to an acquaintance at a baseball game. It's not hard for me to believe. GMs are not gods or anything. They talk business with their friends all the time. So it is entirely plausible for him to be truthful about Loomis. It's fine if you don't trust him, but don't say that it is because GMs are these robots that guards business secrets like they were the access codes to Fort Knox. Besides that, it's not like the Saints lose anything if a deal for Vilma DOESN'T go through... The Saints will find a taker for their draft pick , be it the Jets, Raiders, Packers, or someone else who wants either their choice of the top QBs on the board, DE Mario Williams, or OT D'Brickashaw Ferguison. BTW, to the deluded Jets fans who claim that Vilma is "untouchable", keep in mind that Vilma is supposedly part of a package deal offered to the Falcons for QB Matt Schaub per Fox Sports. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to go to New Orleans, although I find it strange that they'd only get a two-spot bump in the first round for him.
