Why are people so stupid?

Recommended Posts

When I have my coat on and have my ID off, and I have one foot literally out the door, what might that suggest to you? Tonight was like the third time a customer tried to stop me as I was leaving. "Sir, do you work here?" Next time I swear to God I'll just say no. YES, I WORK HERE, BUT AS YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE I AM STEPPING THROUGH THE EXIT. So anyways, she started asking me some stupid question I don't even remember now, and I was so angry, I was just like "yeah, but I, uh..." and I kinda pointed to the door, thinking she could get a clue, but she just kept talking, so I sighed, shrugged my shoulders, and walked out. Now I'm being told I might get in trouble for this behavior, if she decided to tell a manager, which, based upon the fact that she's a fat old woman, she probably will.

First call today...it was another winner.

"I want to print something, but it's trying to use my fax machine, how do I print this document?"

Does this sound like a question you would ask your ISP?

Well not as bad as people who call when their computer won't turn on at all.

To the original poster: I assume you work in some retail position? I used to work retail, and found that you just had to leave when people try to talk to you as you're walking out. Just say something like "sorry, I'm done for the day" and walk out. If you're not on the clock, you're not on the hook.

well this was a specific incident. but generally, the black ladies I speak with are way more mild mannered than the white trash or middle aged prissy bitches. But nothing is worse than pissed of grannies, they are beyond logic and reason.

Tonight was like the third time a customer tried to stop me as I was leaving. "Sir, do you work here?"

What used to piss me off is when you're closing and people are still in the store. Now I can understand some people have crazy schedules and might not be able to shop in the middle of the day, but show some goddamn respect for the person who put in an eight-hour shift and has to wait on your ass to finish checking out.

To be fair, if they know nothing about computers/Internet, they probably don't know who to call. There have been a few times when I had problems at work with our systems and I didn't know who to call. I'd always start with the DSL provider and work my way from there -- I never give an attitude to the CSR however, because trying to fix something you can't see for yourself is hard.

In my retail days I was always good at avoiding customers on my way out. Typically I'd take of my topshirt and just have my undershirt on as way of letting people know not to bug me when I'm off the clock, especially if I had my own shopping to do after the fact.

I'm sure you'll get a kick out of this story... one night when I was working grocery, it was almost midnight and closing time so I give the standard "store is closing soon, please bring your shit up front" announcement. Most all the customers come up to check out and everything seems to be fine until we do the store walk and find an older woman and middle-age woman (probably mom-daughter pair). We figure we'll let them get away for a minute or so to finish up... 12:10, still nothing, so I get on the PA and make a "the store is closed, please bring your shit up front" announcement. 12:20, we go peruse the aisles and find them still shopping, so I make another announcement, this one very emphatic. 12:30, they finally come up to the checkout and we find out why they didn't respond: Because they didn't fucking speak Inglés.

And whose fault is that, amigo?

I really didn't have a problem getting caught by customers on my way out from a shift because I usually closed. However, when I used to work at the gas station there would always be this asshole who would linger in the store for 5 minutes right when we were about to do a shift change. Basically, the person working whose done with his or her shift would have to close out the register, hit a few keys and wait for a shift report to print out. Then the person replacing that cashier would have to enter in his or her info.

Well, we always tried to do this when the crowds were minimal, both in the store and at the pump. However, there was always THAT ONE PERSON who would look at the candy aisle for 10 minutes doing nothing, and then bring his shit up when we were doing this procedure. They would then get all bent out of shape because THEY WERE IN A HURRY. What was great about these idiots was if they were paying for a small order with a $20 they usually had to wait while we got change from our in-store safe (we always started out our registers with minimal bills.

There's always a few customers that call my warehouse during lunch (and they're one of our most frequent customers, so they know we're at lunch) and place huge orders, so our lunch is usually interrupted by stupid fuckers. That, and one guy I make deliveries to every single day never knows what he wants, so he always changes his order 2-3 times before I pack it up in the van to drop it off. It's not too terrible, but it sure is aggrivating when all I want after 4 1/2 hours on the road is to enjoy my chicken sandwich and this motherfucker wants his 66 blocks.
