Vince McMahon Not Happy With Joey Styles

Recommended Posts

*McMahon grabs Styles by the arm and starts to drag him to his office*

McMahon: I NEED TO TALK TO YOU!!!

Styles: Do you really think you should be exerting that much pressure on your quad by walking like that. Remember Vince, it was just one year ago, right here at the Royal Rumble where you tore that same quad right off the bone! Granted, you had an amazing recovery time but some of us internally are concerned that tonight may not be your lucky night. I mean sure things went your way in your confrontation with Shawn Michaels but remember Vince, it took TWO guys to get him out of the Rumble! What's gonna happen tomorrow night when I'm sure the HeartBreak Kid will want to confront you one-on-one?!? And speaking of confrontations with Shawn Michaels, you can believe Mama Benjamin will be piping mad at her boy Shelton for not quite achieving his goals of eliminating The Icon and winning the Royal Rumble. So many tremendous happenings on tap for tomorrow night on Monday Night Raw on the USA Network 9 Eastern, 8 Central! And don't forget WWE.COM Unlimited during the commercial breaks. The action never stops! Oh my God!

McMahon: GET THE F OUT!!!

Meltzer didn't like Monsoon either, and yall are fuckin crazy. Monsoon was tremendous. The crazy medical lingo, "the ______ one", and he managed to get over holds as simple as a sleeper by explaining how they work and what they're effects are. Meltzer said that Monsoon kept putting himself over and putting the wrestlers down, but I think that's a load of hooey. I think part of what helped my understanding of wrestling psychology as a kid was Gorillas commentary.

100% agreed. He gave the matches an air of legitimacy. He would sometimes chat about the purse money for each match. As stated, explaining the effectiveness of certain holds was crucial in getting into other not so important matches like Hercules vs. Dino Bravo for example. Plus, he taught me what the external occipital pretuberence was. Ever drop that in a conversation? It was also nice to see an announcer forecast a 3-count and actually watch the ref count three rather than hearing McMahon's usual "ONETWOHEGOTHIMHEGOTHIMNOHEDIDN'T!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!" when it was barely a 2-count.

Also, I'm really not sure when Monsoon ever put himself over the wrestlers.

Kinda went off on a tangent there but having an effective play-by-play man like Monsoon is vital for being able to enhance the enjoyment of a typical match.

What the hell..he gets mad at Joey for calling a wrestling match like a "wrestling match".

This is one screwed up company now..even worse than I thought. Vince should go back and watch tapes of himself from the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's..and what was he doing.....calling a wrestling match like a wrestling match.

I have to wonder how this company is going to stay in buisness for another 10 years if they go they way heading and elimate as much wrestling as possible.

I think Joey is doing a fine job. He calls the move names, which IMO goes a long way. He was trying to educate fans instead of the old JR schtick of 'High Impact Move!', 'Hard Shot!', and 'Innovative Offense'.

Like previous posters have said, Vince doesnt want you to call a match. He wants you to sell the next PPV, hype how much of a bastard HHH is when hes nowhere in sight, and badmouth Eddy Guerrero's legacy even more than the booking already has.

"An inverted move!" to anything a wrestler does differently. Yeah, this is what Vince wants.

If Vince hates it that much he should just go back and commentate. I actually didn't hate Vince doing commentary most of the time because he had a good working relationship with Lawler (before the pre-perversion days of his character). Also, McMahon-Heenan commentating the 1993 SummerSlam match of Yokozuna-Lex Luger was awesome and got everyone I was watching with very into the match.

With that said, though, some things Vince did were bad such as the "ONETWOTHREEHEGOTHIMNOHEDIDN'T" phrase and the "WHATTA MANUEVER" for lots of big moves in matches involving HBK, Jannetty, and the Steiner Brothers.

Gotta feel bad for Styles too. He's doing what he's good at and this company is too fucked up to realize that maybe he'd do a better job if the writing/booking made any sense to tell a story.
