Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Do all of the Russian players on the women's side have severe mental issues or what? Henin-Hardenne would've pasted either one of the bitches in under 45 minutes. If for some odd reason Davenport beats Justine, I think Martina's got this title locked up since everyone else will crack under the pressure/heat. My favorite Bovina may be the only one who doesn't. But, that's because she doesn't care for various reasons we don't need to go into. I'm dreading watching Lindsay tomorrow morning now. Even better would be another Justine-Kim final. Where Kim can suck up the joint yet again, and fully bury women's tennis.

naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 I shudder to think how badly this tournament would have gone if Pierce hadn't gagged in the 2nd round or Martina had choked. Until some of these Russians start playing less to lower their rankings OR they develop some semblance of mental toughness the vast majority of these tournament matches are going to be painful to watch. My guess is that Henin-Hardenne will dominate this year if she can stay healthy, and I realize that's a pretty big "if" given her recent history. If Martina plays a full slate of tournies she'll be top 20 in the world by the US Open.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Justine isn't "hot" persay but she's a pretty attractive girl. Her body is really well-proportioned.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 More sloppy tennis being played on the women's side tonight. This tournament has most definitely not showcased the best that tennis has to offer.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 I'm sure Leena's ecstatic to know that Kim Clijsters is the new World # 1. All 4 players I picked to win yesterday won, but today's going to have the more interesting matches, at least that's what I hope.

If Martina plays a full slate of tournies she'll be top 20 in the world by the US Open. Martina will get to Top 20 before that. She's going to play a lot, like she did before. She's shown she can handle the lower ranked scrubs... and if you play 15 tournaments, get 10 or so 3r/QF's out of that... you're right near the Top 10. It's not just the Russians... it's that most top players are mental weaklings. Justine is the only legitimate top player who has confidence that she can win. Maria obviously has that mental toughness, but her game still has much room to improve. And there's certain black players who think they can waltz into slams and still win every one of them. Outside of that, yuck. Martina needs to set them all straight. Watch 'em fold, and just smile at them.

But, #1 hardly matters anymore with injuries. It's more about who can stay the most healthy for a 12-month period now. It's hard to say someone like Mauresmo deserved the #1 ranking. And Loser Lindsay in the past year. Hell, Myskina was one match away from getting #1...

That's true, it's just somewhat ironic that all of the hype around the WTA Tour Championships last year was whether Lindsay or Kim would be # 1, and unless they mentioned something during Davenport/Henin-Hardenne (which I haven't seen) I don't think they've even broached the idea that top ranking was also up for grabs here. Granted, a GS trophy is at stake, but we all knew Lindsay wasn't winning it, so her only attainable goal is to be # 1.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Even though this is a dramatic match, I'm beginning to grow weary of Kiefer/Grosjean. I don't care for either player and since there's no tiebreak here I'd like to see Mauresmo/Schnyder and Hingis/Clijsters some time in the next couple of hours. Gert T 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I had just told my roommate at 4-3 about the Roddick-El Anoyui match from '03............ At least it got more interesting with the racquet toss.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Kiefer's a piece of shit, and I'm just hoping Federer survives tonight and beats his ass in straights in the Semis.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Roger vs. Kiefer will be a matchup of class vs. ass (and not ass in the good way, like Daniella).
Alro 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 That was a dick move by Kiefer. Hearing Gilbert going nuts about it during a change over was pretty funny, though. I hope Federer advances so he can beat Kiefer's ass in straight sets.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Kiefer was always a crazy ass... but, he's stepped to a whole other level in Melbourne. From swearing at Ferrero every point. To being nasty to poor ball kids. Then throwing a racket at Grosjean. What a loon. Go, go Martina. Cheer. Rah rah.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 What an effort by Schnyder. There are about 5 women's players in the game right now that will always be ranked at the top barring injury since basically everyone from 6 down is a quitter. At least THE matchup of the tourney will be on sooner than later as a result. I fully expect Mauresmo's throat will constrict regardless of who wins though. Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 After it looked like this might be an easy match for Kim, Martina's managed to dig down and find something here. She's won five games in a row and Kim is making a lot of errors.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Martina takes the second set 6-2. Oh man I hope she finishes Kim off here.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Feh. Once Martina gets more accustomed to the power Kim had, she's going to beat junk like that. Oh well, now I just wait for Justine to win this. Roger had a very tough match with Davydenko. Not too surprising to me. I'm worried Kiefer is gonna beat him now, though... Kiefer has given Roger trouble before, and he's the type that Roger can lose to... someone able to hang in rallies with Roger, and a good shotmaker. Roger probably still wins... but, I'm thinking another 5-setter where Roger wins because other player gets nervous thinking they can beat GOD.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Feh. Once Martina gets more accustomed to the power Kim had, she's going to beat junk like that. That's true. Any player with less physical ability than Kim has would have definitely lost that match. It's amazing how much stronger mentally Martina is over almost everyone else in the field. She never quit whereas Kim started to unravel really quickly in that 2nd set.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I really think Hingis will be one of the favorites to win the French if she's healthy. As long as she's not on the same side of that draw as Henin-Hardenne I think she'll be very tough to beat on that surface.

Any player with less physical ability than Kim has would have definitely lost that match. It's amazing how much stronger mentally Martina is over almost everyone else in the field. She never quit whereas Kim started to unravel really quickly in that 2nd set. It's sad. Martina is so much smarter and has tons more variety than anyone in the women's game. It's just that other people hit hard. Like Kim in that match... her entire gameplan was to bash the ball as hard as possible, and force Martina off the baseline, knowing she'd make a gaggle of errors doing so. Ugly, ugly tennis. Martina will get used to that, though. Nobody today is close to playing at the level Venus and Serena were in the early part of this decade. I really think Hingis will be one of the favorites to win the French if she's healthy. As long as she's not on the same side of that draw as Henin-Hardenne I think she'll be very tough to beat on that surface. Yes, but clay is Martina's worst surface. She's never had confidence on it, and avoided it when she could in her younger days. Mostly because it's tough for her stand near the baseline and hit her angles and such... against opponents' who are able to consistently hit big, loopy topspin groundies. And it's near impossible for Martina to get much offense. But, it still may be her best chance... because there's few left on tour who still play that way. Clijsters was awful yesterday and won on brute strength which just doesn't seem to work nearly as much on clay. I don't think Martina will be worried about playing wherever she can this year and by the middle of the year you know there will be at least a few people sitting out, and at least a couple walking wounded near the top of the women's game. The only player in the entire world right now who I don't think she can beat even if she plays her best in a big spot is Henin-Hardenne and that's simply because Justine is Martina 2.0, or the version with a good to great serve. I don't see any way for her to compete at Wimbledon or the US Open so it's realistically the only big tourney left this year she could really do well in and I hope she can at least match this week's performance there because the women's game desperately needs something marketable besides Sharapova's panties. Adam 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 It's all about Marcus Baghdatis at the moment. Australia loves an underdog.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 26, 2006 Does Australia not like anyone. You guys don't even give asshole Kiefer a hard time. Baghdatis isn't really an underdog, either. He started putting up some good results last indoor season. He's more of a young guy that we knew was gonna be good, but probably not yet.
Rob Anybody 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2006 He's an entertaining half-underdog, which is better than being a hopeless underdog. That, and he's from Cyprus, which means that a lot of the Greek community is getting behind him - and Melbourne has a lot of Greeks.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted January 26, 2006 Yes, those lovable nutso southern European fans. Meanwhile, Justine better beat Maria. I cannot tolerate the endangered birds of prey shrieking anymore. Someone rip out of her voice box. And give her a face that isn't so gross, either.
