Super Bowl XL

Recommended Posts

That was the 2nd most fun I've ever had watching a Super Bowl (after 31, for obvious reasons). It was a good game, but there have been better in recent years. The reason it was the best?

I got to watch it in a movie theater. For free. :)

Damn straight; if you take away the touchdown that the Steelers were handed, and take away the super-liberal application of the Offensive Pass Interference rule, the Seahawks could have easily won that game. The Play Review Ref sees the play of the Steelers player putting the ball into the End Zone, after he's already down, and backs calling it a TD? Some of these refs need to be bitch-slapped, and the rest need to be fired.

That's fine and all, but Seattle, the big "offensive juggernaut", moved the ball well in the 1st, kept the Steelers from making a 1st down until halfway through the second quarter....and they only had 3 points at halftime. Seattle could have won the game, yes, but it was much more their own fault that they lost than the officiating. Anything else is just sour grapes. Pittsburgh was ripe for the picking in the first half and Seattle did NOTHING to capitalize.

So would someone like to tell me what their definition of offensive pass interference IS?

You had a receiver, IN FRONT OF AN OFFICIAL, use his arm to stiff arm the defender BACK a full step (watch the defender, he gets pushed BACK a full step) those making it impossible for the defender to go for the ball and you DON'T see that as pass interference.

So what exactly IS your defintion? I have zero love for the Steelers but I want someone to explain to me HOW that is NOT interference? He pushed off a stationary defender to get open in the end zone.

I will not argue the Big Ben touchdown cause I found the call horrible but it was third down so who knows what happens. Still a bad call but if no touchdown, it's on the half inch line and the Steelers would have went.

Ooops, sorry, got my Pass Interferences backwards. I was actually referring the Pass Interference call made against Seahawks, where they got that SwEEEt Interception, and the ref called it incomplete because one of the Seahawks players was going for the Steelers player who had the ball, bounced off him, and then ended up in the way of the second Steelers player, through his own momentum. They called it, because he was, quote, "below the waist," unquote, when he crossed his path.

Calling that pass interference is like a cop giving someone a ticket, because the person next to you peeled out and took off like a freight train, and he thought you were going to do it, too. Happened to a co-worker of mine.

this reminds me of Laker games when they had Shaq

Doesn't fucking matter what's fair when there's more banners in the rafters. How many times have the Pistons been to the finals? 1/4 of as many as the Lakers? I didn't look.

hahahahaha defensive eh?...stop the Pistons jealousy and get back to how Seattle was robbed

Using the refs as an excuse is just a total copout. I didn't mention once that USC was robbed by the refs in their game, even though there were clearly some calls that weren't exactly fair. When there are bad calls in the first half, they still have the whole fucking game to score. It's not an excuse.

Regarding the Pistons, I have nothing to be jealous about. We've got 3 in 6 years, you guys have one. No big deal.

if u have nothing to be jealous about then be happy...just know all the guys from ya past glory are now gray and old..besides kobe....so enjoy ya team..USC wasnt robbed..thats y u didnt complain...blaming the refs isnt an excuse if its consistently poor calls in 1 game all against 1 team...sports is built on fair competition...and at their discretion..refs can make or break a game

The Patriots not being involved greatly added to my enjoyment of the ballgame. Not bad. Not the best I've watched, but I can't complain. I don't really mind the Steelers, and neither like nor dislike the Seahawks, so I wasn't too gung-ho going in, but am not disappointed.

The real game changer in my eyes is the two missed field goals and poor clock management by Seattle.

Whoever said that the Seahawks read the Donovan McNabb Book Of Clock Management is dead on. And it seems quite apparent from who Andy Reid learned how to do crappy playcalling from, none other than his mentor Holmgren....

Finally, someone who is thinking clear. I guess, I can understand on some level, why legitimate Seattle fans would be feeling that way and to be blind to the reality of the situation but for non-fans to hop on this "fuck Pittsburgh, the ref's screwed the Seahawks" bus, just to to go along with a new trend is pathetic.

No shit. How bizarre and unlikely is that? Now, a terrorist getting his/her hands on some biological WMD, and trying to take out a hospital with a Level 4 Biohazard; I can unfortunately see that happening.

USC wasn't robbed, just like Seattle wasn't. They both had all game to play well after their respective poor replays and bad calls against them. Refs can make a game or break it, but not when their bad calls were in the first half. Seattle could have blown Pittsburgh apart in the first half, yet didn't capitalize on it. Does that sound like a certain team that plays in the Coliseum?

There's also the fact that, uhh, THIS SHOW FUCKING SUCKS. I've never seen it until tonight, and now I know why. This is awful.

That show may suck, but it's still an improvement of immediately showing a 95% naked man-jaw after the game.

This little Lakers vs. Pistons pissing contest you guys are doing. No one cares in a Superbowl thread. Take it to AIM or one of the basketball threads.

Ok, I'll take all mine out. To be fair, I didn't bring up the Lakers.

Did Joey Porter disappear or what?

Clearly, the Seahwaks made alot of mistakes and didnt take advantage of the things that they shouldve. But on the flipside there are many people on here talking as if the refs were perfect and the bad calls simply didnt happen. 14 points on touchy calls combined with bad playcalling/clock management is a combination that no team can beat. Seattle hurt themselves, but to pretend that there were no bad calls in the game is as ridiculous as calling 'fix'.

Con: Sloppy play. Really bad play calling at the end. Terrible reffing.

Pro: The Patriots did not win the Super Bowl.

The pro side wins.

To be fair though, nobody cares that Matt Young saw the game in a theater either. You should give him a warning too.

Of course, there was atrocious calls from the referees. No argument but Seattle was still in the game regardless, all night and because of that shitty clock managment and play calling, they didn't get the job done.

They can only, honestly, blame themselves.

This game tonight just had zero Super Bowl vibe to me. With the Michaels/Madden announce team, the theme song, Tafoya on the sidelines....it all reeked of a yawner mid November MNF game.

The game in essence felt like "Super Bowl: In Your House."

Was Seattle dicked over a bit by the refs? Sure. Do I care? Not really. Let's face it, outside of the Pacific NW there wasn't much of anyone hyped for the Seahawks being in the Super Bowl. Seattle played such a bland, vanilla game that it's hard to sympathize with them. Without that one goofy Roethlisberger INT at the goal line, that game is a 28-3 squash.

This was a Super Bowl that was odd to me in that I didn't think there was really a standout player on either side. Hasselbeck didn't really make enough notable big plays for Seattle, Shaun Alexander proved tonight why he was voted "Most Overrated" by NFL players, and the Steelers had a few big plays, but not many big players. Roethlisberger had his one big pass play, Parker his one big run, Randle El his one sweet WR pass...and Hines Ward ends up as MVP? I was surprised at that really since I hadn't even thought of him as being the MVP. I guess he had 123 yards but it was mostly him being the recipient of something notable (Roethlisberger's heave, Randle El's pass) than him doing anything all that great.

End result? Just a forgettable Super Bowl. Not the best, not the worst either.
