Damaramu 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Ok I was wondering who here can dance? I go to clubs and attempt to dance and sometimes it turns out well(after a few beers loosen me up) and sometimes I look rigid and unnatural. For a little while there I would get worried that I looked horrible and that made me dance worse. Eventually I just went with the music and went to my own world and I was able to dance much better. And I looked around the club and unless it was a girl or a black guy nobody else could dance. So is there anyone here that can actually dance or do you just go out there and move around and see what happens? I also have no rhythm. It's like the Jerk but only worse. When I was a waiter we'd clap in a beat to sing Happy Birthday and they eventually told me I wasn't allowed to clap b/c I threw them all off.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 I can function. I won't be throwing down any real moves anytime soon, but if I'm out on the floor with other people, I can hold my own. Dancing's always seemed sort of pointless to me, but I've been forced to address it more in recent years because my girlfriend's Italian and they have a string of weddings to go to each summer. Traditionally, I'm more reserved with these sorts of things, but the last wedding I went to last December was the first time I not only danced without really being forced to, but more or less was on the dance floor throughout the duration of the night, even when my girl took the occasional break here and there. Whether that had anything to do with me being a more frequent occupant of the bar that night than other gatherings or not, is anyone's guess.

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 what...you trying to be Justin Timberlake or something? Take a look around the rest of the dance floor next time, no one can dance, really...and NO, chicks shaking their asses at a fast pace does not equal good dancing. You'll also notice, all chicks dance the exact same way, almost to a T. Just move along the best you can to the music, dance in groups to hide the flaws, etc. If you snag a chick, just grind up on her or at least match her pace and you'll be just fine. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Lushus speaks the truth. I'm amazed at how many girls think they're great dancers and really they aren't. They just shake a lot; not necessarily in rhythm.

They just shake a lot; not necessarily in rhythm. it's not so much that they can't move to the music, it's just that they all dance the EXACT SAME WAY...I call it the "Girls Gone Wild" dance, which is basically them doing what Alizee is doing in my avatar while occasionally sticking their BUTT out, maybe moving their arms around a bit...it's hard to explain. I mean, it looks good because they're chicks, but it's not great dancing.

I can't say a whole lot, since my moves don't vary too much, but it's always funny to see a different sounding song come on and suddenly, half the people are off the floor, clearly unaware how else to respond to such a change in sound. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 I can dance. I just usually refuse to do it. Cause every god damn time I HAVE danced, it's been filmed. And I'm tired of appearing on film dancing. Plus the music I listen now to doesn't really require dancing or has some shitty in a line crap I won't do.

Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 As for dancing, back in atlanta I was a swing dance instructor, taught classes, competed nationally. Never one of the bestest dancers, but good enough to bring the house down on occasion. Then again, this isn't "club dance", but when I was teaching my classes, I developed a style of swing which you could do in the club, and taught that. Never got ballroom, loved salsa/swing. I learned enough to be a beg/int. breakdancer, but I only learned em to incorporate them into my "lindy hip" dance classes (same reason why I learned the basics of step and hip hop dance). It was funny in Hitch when he was teaching the fat guy how to dance. He's entirely right. Short, controlled movements look alot better than arm punches and whatnot unless youre really fluid and quick about them (and they're in beat with the music too). Also, people who can't dance are way too nervous on the dance floor, meaning that they can't dance anyways. A good friend of mine can't dance worth shit, total white guy, but he dances anyways, has a smile and a laugh almost always on the floor, and the girls love dancing with him. He knows he can't dance, but he takes advantage of that and turned it into something that works. If youre trying to meet a chick, dancing imho is the best way, especially social dancing. Here in Clarendon, a local bar has a salsa dance every monday night. 70% chics. There's a beginner lesson before it, so thats a great way to meet them. As long as you're not ashamed that you are a beginner, then you're good (unconfidence is not awesome). Hell, I'm not bonfida awesome at salsa, but its easy to go up to any good salsa dancing chic and get a dance, just praise their ability and be humble. Seriously, once you learn the basic footwork and rythym of any social dance style, you can use the principles at almost any club so you look like you know what youre doing. If anyone here wants to learn swing, hit me up via pm and give me your city, and very likely I've got a friend there who teaches.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 the point is that he doesn't need to be Michael Jackson out there on the dance floor because nobody else is. 'cept me, of course. I feel sorry for girls sometimes whenever I venture into the more stereotypical clubs. Guys just kinda stand there while the girl in front of him is seizuring and shoving her ass into his crotch as much as possible, expending so much effort while the dude looks completely disinterested. I almost prefer the spazzy moves I see scenesters try to make at shows. Almost.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2006 Some girls who do the "shaking body" dance look so hilarious. It's like they think they are sexy but it's just the complete lack of anything just makes them look like they are being electrocuted. I've seen some really hot girls doing it and I've just had to turn my head so I could laugh. You gotta have some form of body control if you are going to do that dance. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 whoever invented the cha cha slide and the electride slide should be tortured repeatedly. I haven't heard the Electric Slide anywhere besides a wedding since 1992, lol. There's a club here that every Thursday usually towards the end of the night they bust out the Sugarhill Gang's "Apache (Jump On It)" and it's hysterical watching these people attempt it. As for dancing, I just go with the flow like the rest of the guys have mentioned...I'm not about to be a backup dancer on MTV or anything. However, I direct you to the famed "Vanilla Ice" story from my Florida trip last year for the perfect example of how you don't have to be a cast member of You Got Served to win people over with dance skill.
