Red Baron Posted February 12, 2006 Author Report Posted February 12, 2006 Savard has been a consistant scorer throughout his career, and is an excellent passer. Just putting him on a line with Kovalchuk and Hossa has benefitted him.
JustJoe2k5 Posted February 12, 2006 Report Posted February 12, 2006 Important game for Carolina this afternoon. They don't want to enter the Olympic break on a three game losing streak. Although they have been competitive in their last two losses, they need to turn it around against Buffalo today.
Guest Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 That was the best game I've ever been to. I was going to leave when it was 5-2 Dallas, but I'm real glad I didn't. That was a playoff atmosphere at Staples this afternoon that just intensified when Brown somewhat checked Turco. That guy will take over right where Deadmarsh left off. Luc's ceremony was awesome too, perfect that he scored the game-tying goal. I think the slump is over and with it comes a member title change.
Fartsauce Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 http://www.nhl.com/video/app?component=%24...WMV&sp=861&sp=2 Dan Hinote has my vote for weirdest goal of the year so far.
JustJoe2k5 Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 I think that award is still with Alexander Ovechkin for that goal he made mid-fall.
nl5xsk1 Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 I'd understand the belief Lundquist wouldn't be able to do this stuff next year if he just came out of nowhere, like Tim Thomas. But he's been dominating the Swedish leagues for years, and I don't see any reason he won't be just as good next year. Not for nothing, but Thomas was the MVP in the Finnish league that he played in before signing with the B's organization. I'm not saying that he's a lifelong superstar or that this recent hot streak will last the rest of the season, let alone beyond this year ... I'm just saying that it's not like he came from absolutely nowhere.
Red Baron Posted February 16, 2006 Author Report Posted February 16, 2006 Two things happened today in the NHL. Big Pussy and Fucking Dick (Steve Moore and his lawyer Ted Danson) filed a civil lawsuit against Todd Bertuzzi today. Also Cliff Ronning retired today as well.
CanadianChris Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Tim Danson. Although having Ted Danson as my lawyer might be kinda cool.
CanadianGuitarist Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Whats everyones take on the Moore thing? Suing him? Maybe Suing him for 19 million? Come on. Also, farewell Cliff, who I've always liked, if for nothing else, that he scored 43 goals in a season in NHL2K5 for me two years ago.
Guest Rrrsh Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Steve Moore can kiss my ass, the money grubbing Ontarioite. What a little shit
Red Baron Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 Steve Moore should just give it up. No one fucking cares anymore.
nl5xsk1 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Steve Moore should just give it up. No one fucking cares anymore. I'm presuming his friends & family care. And the people that think that Bertuzzi was wrong for doing what he did. If it turns out that Moore can't play anymore, than he SHOULD sue. He'll be losing the opportunity to earn a living as a result of an action that the league deemed to be outside of normal NHL play. It's not right that he'd be losing the opportunity to make money as a result of what Bertuzzi did. But having said that, the amount of money that he should be awarded should be within reason. Certainly not $19 million.
Red Baron Posted February 20, 2006 Author Report Posted February 20, 2006 Add a decimal point between the 1 and 9 and I'll be happy. Also the NHL and the referees have agreed to a four year deal as now the refs wont have to go on strike.
the pinjockey Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 19 million isn't that unrealistic of opening offer, IMO. First of all, if he is asking for $19, it seems safe to assume they are likely looking at more towards $10-12 as a final number. He made $323K in the last year he played. If he can argue that Bertuzzi took an 8-10 year career from him, with standard raises that would probably end up around $4-5 million. Put that together with losing a professional hockey career (not salary, but losing the ability to play hockey) and the catch all "pain and suffering", then all of a sudden a nice chunk of change can rack up in a hurry.
Red Baron Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 Buddy wasn't going to last five years in the league, probably bounced around from team to team, maybe making 500k tops.
the max Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Drafted by Colorado in the second round of the 1998 draft. Had played for most of three seasons prior to the incident with Bertuzzi and was only in his mid-twenties when his neck was broken. I'd say that it was a safe bet that he lasted until at least his thirties. The Avs like defensively responsible players like Moore.
Red Baron Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 He wasn't that great I mean in 69 games that year he had five goals seven assists and a +/- of -9. Considered a rookie, he might have done better, but I doubt it.
nl5xsk1 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 One of the things that might come back to haunt Moore in the lawsuit is the fact that he's a Harvard grad ... it's not like he won't have an education to fall back on. If it was, and no offense meant to anyone, some hick fresh off a farm that had two choices in life: hockey and farming, then I could see an argument that Bertuzzi took away the one chance that Moore had of living the good life. But a kid with a Harvard education, a) likely has money to begin with ... and b) has a good education to fall back on. I say that he'd have stayed in the league for a while but in a PJ Axelsson type of role (3rd liner, defensive specialist, not expected to light the lamp 25/30 times a season). The question is what the standard salary for a player like that will be in the cap-era. One million a year? More? Less?
CanadianChris Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 So Hasek may or may not be healthy by the time the schedule resumes, and may or may not be out for an extended period. Thanks for clearing that up, guys.
Red Baron Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 At least you know the type of injury. I say he'll miss up until mid-march.
CanadianChris Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 At least you know the type of injury. True, but they just confirmed what the Czech doctors already said. At least they said it was a mild strain. I say he'll miss up until mid-march. Sounds about right. They're not going to take any chances, especially with such a soft schedule coming out of the break. The best teams they'll see in the first three weeks are Tampa Bay (twice) and New Jersey. I figure he'll be back for the game against New Jersey on the 19th, so he can work back into playing shape for the big game against the Sabres on the 24th.
KGB Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 I might as well bump this since the NHL season resumes tomorrow (and the day after, a thread for the month of March should be created). NHL Games Scheduled for February 28, 2006 (in Eastern Time): Montreal at NY Islanders, 8:00 PM Washington at Toronto, 8:30 PM Florida at Tampa Bay, 8:30 PM Minnesota at Colorado, 9:00 PM Vancouver at Calgary, 9:00 PM Detroit at San Jose, 10:30 PM
CanadianGuitarist Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 ^ In Soviet Union, thread bumps you. We're quietly only 10 days away from the trade deadline. Should be very interesting this year, with so many teams on the playoff bubble, and so many usual playoff pretenders performing well. Big week to determine who goes where.
Guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Cause it's important. Insiders indicate Wayne Gretzky will wash his hands of the Canadian Olympic team for 2010, opening the door for Kevin Lowe to take over. Quote: Word out of the Canadian hockey team's dressing room is Jarome Iginla and Todd Bertuzzi were two of the hardest hit by the loss to Russia. Iginla sat stunned in full gear for more than 20 minutes before undressing. With tears in his eyes, Bertuzzi apparently apologized to all his teammates for his interference penalty that led to the game-winner. Ouch.
mike546 Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Fuck the olympic break. The Rangers were rolling, but now we have to worry about Jagr's groin and head, plus Henrik isn't even playing against the flyers on Thursday.
the pinjockey Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 There is a press conference tomorrow in Philly, where reportedly Primeau is going to officially call it a season. With his money freed up, expect a Clarke move pretty quick. He tends to make his moves before the deadline approaches. Releasing the garbage that is Petr Nedved would free up even more money. No reports of that actually happening, just felt the need to through that out there.
Guest CurryMan Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Well the Swedish NHL players will leave to the US and Canada on tuesday, except Fredrik Modin who left straight to the US and the Sedin brothers that left after the celebrations had taken place in Stockholm. Some pictures ->
Red Baron Posted February 28, 2006 Author Report Posted February 28, 2006 Too bad Mr. Naslund wasn't on the team. Fuck thats just unstoppable right there if he played. After reading the Toronto Sun, they must be on crack trying to give away Ken Klee. Though the possible trade for Antropov for Arnason sounds a good deal for Montreal. Hopefully Mr. Gainey doesn't sit on his hands this year (a defencemen, a good faceoff player and a person that has better talent than Radek Bonk [everyone] would be nice).
Guest Rrrsh Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 The Canuks second best defensman for tonights game will be Steve McCarthy. Fuck you, Injury God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is Arnason for Antropov(which I don't see happening) effect Montreal? Arnason is quietly good, but not at his full potential, so both of those disqualify him in Hogtown, whose brass seem to love Antropov for some reaosn.
