I just want to mention how ironic it is that the girl Im with has a Comcast HD DVR hooked up to a 19 inch regular SD TV.

I hadnt noticed til last night when we were searching around for her remote...

I was..really..really..cautious about saying anything stupid.

Don't worry, Marv, you don't have to beat her to death; the Comcast and Scientific Atlanta HD DVRs have a ton more space than the SD ones do, and many markets charge the same price for both of them. I have one on a regular old TV in my bedroom because it's $12/month regardless of which unit I rent. The HD models are also newer and faster, and run the channel guide and on-demand software much more effectively.

Comcast probably has all HD DVRs just to make things easier. And it isn't her fault, the cable company gave it to her.

My parents have a DVD player that's more than 10 years old, but it's not huge, and works fine. It's a Toshiba though, so I think it is one of the higher quality ones you could get at the time. I know it cost about $250 at the time.

I'm surprised that you did not rush to the nearest Best Buy or Circuit City to get the cheapest DVD player not named Cyber Home or APEX! Must have progressive scan, DVD+R playback, play DIVX and component cables!

Why aren't we bringing up the more important thing here? Marv, what's the story with this girl????? Is this the one you have been chatting online?

HDNet in Canada is really shitty. Almost none of the shows that are on the American version are shown here since they don't have the Canadian syndication rights (NHL, Arrested Development, Smallville, Joan of Arcadia). Most of what we get stuck with are boring news magazine or interview shows.

I want to watch Andy Richter Controls the Universe, dammit.

Well, something was up and they showed Andy Richter on the Canadian feed tonight. I think it might have something to do with their coverage of the Virginia Tech stuff.

They are called re-runs.

I haven't seen a re-run of andy richter in years. Actually........ I've never seen any.

That's pretty much cancelled, too.

There are a bunch of shows that HDNet has the rights to that I'd like to watch, but aren't on the Canadian feed, I don't even think most of them are available anywhere else in Canada. That Higher Definition show is on all the time, it seems, and that host is boring as fuck.

It had such a horrendous time slot. I watched all the episodes they had on NBC.com. They weren't too bad.

Also, it wasnt a dumb comment. He said "Andy Richter". That is his actual name. He's been on more things than just Andy Richter Controls The Universe.

We lost HDNet and HDNet movies, both of which piss me off. We now have MTVHD which is a channel I don't watch anyway, National Geographic HD which hasn't had much on since being added, and A&E HD, which I only know for 24 reruns.

Comcast sucks the cock.

We can't get NGCHD here unless we subscribe to the regular National Geographic channel.

A&E is pointless, pretty much nothing besides CSI: Miami is in HD.

Planet Earth is one of the best things I've ever seen on broadcast HD. It is going to look AMAZING on Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

I danced around this in the 360 thread in the Video Games folder as well.

Customer today said they wanted to connect their TV to a PC. I told them they needed a 15-pin VGA cable, which we inexplicably don't carry. Customer said they had heard an S-video cable would also work.....news to me (as I told them), but I'm second-guessing myself now. The more I thought of it, my laptop does have something about the size of an S-video (and it's not PS2).

If it does the same trick, can I assume VGA is akin to HDMI in the cable hierachy?

S-Video works. As long as you have S-Video out (most used in a video card).
