MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 I saw an RCA 50 inch DLP Projection at Wal Mart for $750 (originally 1697) on clearance and the only thing that stopped me was I had no way to get it home, but thats probably a good thing since I really want a 1080p tv and thats only 720p..but still..darn.. I think they work out fine for the non HD enthusiast who wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p, but for me I'd have to pass. I'd buy one for my girlfriends place though. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 Panasonic's got a nice BR player coming out on the 17th that has a load of features and comes with 5 movies in the box ('Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl,' 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,' 'The Transporter,' 'Fantastic Four' and 'Crash.') for the wonderful price of $599. But of course they don't have HD yet, so I REALLLY hope they do. My step-mom is a tad bit cheap and might want to spend the extra money. Still a very good deal (especially if you like picking up your big purchases and not having them shipped), but if you don't actually want the PS3, it's less of a bargain. I might just go ahead and pull the damn trigger on the deal tomorrow if possible with the coupon since that makes it about $1800 give or take since the coupon will only take off $216 on the TV (not the PS3 or the game/movies) bringing the TV down to $1583 + the price of the PS3, movie and game - the $400 pacakage deal discount, or about $1850. hmm Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

At Home 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 If you're getting a TV to fit your needs, then look at what your needs demand first. For instance, a PS3 can support up to 1080p resolution, which is the highest resolution possible. If you're playing on your 360, it supports up to 720p, which is a step lower from what many HD televisions provide, at 1080i. 1080p > 1080i > 720p > 720i, etc. Progressive is always better than integrated. Look at contrast and brightness as well. The higher the better. Also the definitive test is just to go and look at it at a local electronics store. Personally, I like to streamline everything. I have a Sony TV, sony cd players, sony dvd players, etc. It just makes using one remote easy. But that's just me. Just do your research. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 I do want to get the absolute most out of my PS3, but not if it drains my funds, so I'm content with getting A LARGE PORTION OF WHAT IS IT IS CAPABLE OF if it's more cost effective. It will be in my bedroom and screensize is not of huge importance to me. Meaning, I'm fine with TV's under 40 inches, in the low 30's, possibly as low as maybe a 27" (but that's as low as I'd go, something in the 30's would be preferable). I don't know a lot about HDTV's but from what I gather, the best quality I can get for the price I'm looking for is 1080i, which is fine with me. LCDs are at the cheapest they're ever going to get right now, so I highly suggest grabbing a 30" LCD if you can soon. Like you, I'm not overly obsessed with watch HDTV other than maybe a couple choice shows here and there. Comcast's HDTV selection is absolute shit, and you have to pay a lot more for it. I have a 22" (that was formerly my second monitor until I moved out) HDTV/PC monitor (it has DVI, YPbpr, coaxial and VGA inputs) that I currently use for watchin regular ol' analog TV. I had to downgrade in service because, as I said, Comcast's digital service was way too much to be worth it. For games, movies, and sports, this does me just fine. I have a home theatre system to make up for the lack of screen space right now, but hopefully by the end of the year I will have a nicer LCD myself along with a 360 and/or Wii. While it won't technically be the best you could get from your PS3 (*takes another swing at the dead horse), 1080i/720p is hardly anything to sneeze at. Just out of curiosity, how many PS3 games are 1080p? It's not quite all of them, is it? I'm actually more excited to get an HDTV for my 360, than I am for TV itself. Happy because Im getting the new Directv HD-DVR and 5 LNB that will be capable of recieving Directvs new HD channels come September 15th (the first wave of the supposed 100 HD Channels by the end of the year). Only cost me $99. Sad because its not a Tivo based DVR and Ive grown quite attached to the tivo in the 23 months Ive owned it.. BRING ON THE HD! Yeah, I didn't mean to downplay my excitement for actual programs, in fact, my goal was to have an HDTV by the 2008 Masters, specifically for that event. Marvin's news of this upgrade (which I heard of through a Bell rep a few weeks ago, for any fellow Canucks reading this) only sweetens the deal. I did see some of Planet Earth, but in NTSC, and I was pretty impressed. Just some of the shit I learned from it, as well as the overall work of it, is awfully amazing if you think of it. CNN's gonna be useless too for the first bit as I dont even think they have hd studios yet, they just wanna be the first HD Cable news network. TBS will have most of their new original shows and Baseball playoffs in HD, and some of their movies but if its stretch-o-vision like TNT then no thanks. I'm sure Sportsnet in Canada will have most of the games, anyway, but if there's a conflict, I'd like to be able to see the game I want in HD.
