2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2006 country music star Don Cox As a person who listens to country music, I can honestly say...who the hell is Don Cox? It can't be the same Don Cox who released his last album in like 1995 or so cause he's hardly a country music star. Even using the word "star" loosely, he doesn't fall into it. You'd be surprised at how diverse Nascar's fanbase really is. In fact, Nascar's largest fanbase is not "southern" white males but actually 18-34 females. However, this is still Virginia and your comment is probably accurate. This is good for TNA, to attach themselfs to other tours and promotional machines. But back to the wrestling the south is bring on old school wrestling so it would be smart to put sting in the main event both night but agianst differnt people. thats one thing tna has to make a point about doing don't book the same card on both nights. Not really weird, considering how the drivers basically make up for 18-30 year old drivers that are the faces behind the promotion and NASCAR is an excellent promotional machine. In fact, TNA should met with NASCAR and discuss marketing and promotional tactics. As for the "southern" fanbase+wrestling thing is concerned, I know Norfolk/Richmond has a decent wrestling history but I'm so sure that Martinsville was ever a wrestling hotbed. Martinsville is all about NASCAR(especially during race week), and it'll require good promotion and word of mouth. Good news is that there is a large crowd coming into town for that weekend. If they have the #'s they have done for Detroit, they could realistically obtain that same crowd and maybe get a few tourists interested in attending the TNA event. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 In all honesty, I really think TNA is doing the house show thing all wrong. They seem to rely too much on the local promoters. I know that you have to do that in order for them to promote the event in the area, but they make it sound like ICP is bringing TNA into Detroit and Hermie is bringing them to Martinsville when TNA should be promoting themselves. Just my thought.

I know that you have to do that in order for them to promote the event in the area, but they make it sound like ICP is bringing TNA into Detroit and Hermie is bringing them to Martinsville when TNA should be promoting themselves. Just my thought. It seems that way is because that is exactly what's happening. ICP and Hermie are paying TNA a fee to use their trademark stuff (logos, six sided ring and whatever else) on their local shows. TNA gets paid up front and doesn't have to worry about a bad gate, and the local promoter gets to use the national promotion's name and (ideally) draw a big crowd. The thought process is that calling it a TNA house show will draw better than calling it a UWF card. I actually think it's a great for TNA to test the house market. They know they have to start to tour in order to continue their growth, but they also don't want to sink a bunch of money it since they are just now having their first real shot at not running huge deficits in 4 years. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 I understand but this is a time where TNA has to see if THEY ALONE can draw the gates. If they rely on the other promoters like they are, then they will not be able to know which areas are really areas that TNA can run and do well in. Right now the way they are going about it is that TNA is this special attraction in part of a bigger card. They need to run independently from that.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 I'll say this regarding ICP bringing TNA into Detroit: The most entertaining editions of TNA during Dirty Dutch's run as head booker were when ICP were main guys. The whole month or so with them running around and the little Juggalo bastards in the audience made for some ENTERTAINING shows. ICP has a large fanbase, and quite a bit of those fans also watch wrestling. Doing a joint production is a good idea (even if I hate Juggalos and can only tolerate some ICP). Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 By getting free promotion outside, they can see if there's interest before they spend money promoting themselves.
Astro101 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2006 I think TNA is doing the right thing. It's testing out the market with less at stake than if they're doing a show all by themselves. A few house trials won't hurt.
Guest ChikoDemono Report post Posted February 28, 2006 They are running against ROH in Chicago on the 31st? Hmm. They better not pull any talent to work their show. Are you threatening TNA? I agree with Astro, Corey, and TNABaddoboi. TNA does not need to instantly jump into the house show market without first finding out where they have a market in. Also, joint production attractions can be beneficial to all parties involved, Southerners and Juggalos alike.
TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2006 TNA officially announced these shows today: TNA Wrestling and The United Wrestling Federation Announce Licensing Agreement Virginia Based Promotion to run TNA Branded Shows Total Nonstop Action Wrestling announces that it has reached an agreement with The United Wrestling Federation, owned by NASCAR driver Hermie Sadler, for the UWF to promote shows featuring the TNA brand and talent. The first shows will be March 31 in Danville, Virginia and April 1 in Martinsville, Virginia that take place during NASCAR weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Sadler, a longtime supporter of TNA Wrestling, says the momentum TNA Wrestling currently has, along with the growth of the UWF made it the perfect time to join forces. "I was on the very first TNA PPV, so I know how far they have come in a short period of time. Their brand of wrestling is the most exciting I have ever seen. We have featured mostly TNA talent on our shows this year and the response has been great. Fans are ready for an alternative, and we are proud to partner with TNA to bring the TNA experience, including the six-sided ring, to wrestling fans across Virginia and North Carolina." Dixie Carter, President of TNA Wrestling, knows that as TNA moves to prime time on Spike TV April 13, it is important to take the brand to the fans. "We feel the time is right to take our product to the fans that have been so supportive of us as we have grown into a primetime slot on television. We have had a great relationship with Hermie and his family for a long time, and we know the UWF/TNA partnership will continue to grow our fan base in the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast." The first TNA shows will take place March 31 at The Grant Center on the campus of Averett University in Danville, Virginia and April 1 in Martinsville, Virginia at the Lowes building just across from the Martinsville Speedway. TNA talent scheduled for these events are Jeff Jarrett, Team 3-D, Rhino, Abyss, Monty Brown, The James Gang, Traci, and many more stars. The show in Martinsville will also feature appearances by NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip and NASCAR on FOX announcer Jeff Hammond. After the Martinsville show fans can enjoy a country music concert by Don Cox. For event and ticket information on UWF events, visit www.uwfusa.com.

TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2006 Anyone know the capacity of the arenas they're running in Virginia? Coming off a pretty good draw in Detroit, it'll be interesting to see what kind of numbers they do here. Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2006 I'm traveling down from DC with a friend (WITH MY TNA STAFF BADGE~!) to see the show on April 1st. Hopefully they honor my badge still and I can get backstage and scoop and interview or pics or something. I do not want to get my ass whooped by Shark Boy in pool again. I don't know what capacity they have, but they have ringside being rows 1-5 for 25, general admissin for 10. Its in the old Lowe's building, so I can assume that its a pretty decent size building, maybe 1000 total. It is a race weekend, so I bet it will be sold out. Since it is the weekend of a NASCAR event, TNA won't have to worry about drawing a crowd as the crowd will already be there waiting for them. Literally thousands of people camp out around the racetrack the weekend of the races. TNA has a great opportunity to spark alot of interest and make some money.
