Guest Princess Leena Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 The US isn't playing, so this will be as popular as TSM's weekly Smackdown! thread. Dominican Republic vs. Cuba. Japan vs. Korea. Since Cuba's uniforms are poorly color coordinated and quite ugly, they will lose. And Korea's uniform is as bland as possible. So, Japan will win.
Guest Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 There's probably not going to be a semifinal today. It's raining.
Mik Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Is it at 3pm on ESPN (assuming it stops raining)?
Mik Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 NEW YORK -- Korea pitcher Myung Hwan Park has tested positive for a banned substance and is disqualified from the World Baseball Classic, Major League Baseball said in a release Friday. Park tossed two shutout innings in one appearance with Korea, striking out three and walking two. Korea is undefeated heading into its matchup with Japan in the WBC semifinals Saturday night at San Diego's Petco Park. Not sure if this is worth much, but here you go.
Damaramu Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 I work with a guy that's from Korea. He's rooting for them of course and it's funny b/c he's teaching me about how all the announcers are murdering the Korean names.
jwpeer Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 This Cuban pitcher is cool. It's like the cuban Greg Maddux
Guest Princess Leena Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Rain shouldn't stop any play. Cali nancy boys.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 1-0 Dominicans in the 7th. This looks like a great game.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 As an aside, kudos to the Dominicans for starting Placido Polanco over Alfonso Soriano the last few games. Soriano's got pop but the team gets enough of that in the middle of the lineup. Polanco provides a solid leadoff hitter and vastly superior defense.
mike546 Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 And Soriano strikes out on a slider down and away to end the game. Unbelievable that he STILL can't learn to lay off that pitch.
Brett Favre Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Damn, Lazo is like the greatest pitcher ever.
Brett Favre Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Japan is opening this game up. 4-0 in the 7th, 1st and 3rd with Ichiro coming up.
Richard Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 This rain delay is more entertaining that SNME.
Richard Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Just what Koreans needed, another reason to hate Japan.
Mik Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Two teams with no one anybody heard of (except Ichiro) in the finals. I love it.
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Japan vs. Cuba? Not surprised. I'm fucking loving this. This has seriously revived my interest in baseball.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Japan vs. Cuba? Not surprised. I'm fucking loving this. This has seriously revived my interest in baseball. Agreed. For the wrong reasons. But this is what I have wanted from the start.
The Czech Republic Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Why? Are you one of those "DON'T TAKE MUH BOYS OUTTA SPRING TRAINING" guys that wants it to flop?
Kahran Ramsus Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Japan vs. Cuba. Aside from Canada vs. Cuba, probably the best possible matchup.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 I wanted Cuba vs Mexico, but this is good too.
Guest Princess Leena Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Why? Are you one of those "DON'T TAKE MUH BOYS OUTTA SPRING TRAINING" guys that wants it to flop? Derrek Lee wasn't with the Cubs. And he got injured. And you're pissed that the Cubs will finish in 5th instead of 4th in the NL Central because of this.
Red Baron Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 No Bud Selig will cut all ties with the World Baseball Classic because there is only a handful of MLB players in the final tourney.
Masked Man of Mystery Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Does anyone know if MLB has the rights to put these teams in a video game?
Brett Favre Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 In MLB 2K5, the USA, Dominican, Venezuelan, and an International team were on the game. They should add the Cuba, Japanese, and the rest of them for the next game.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 The finals should start now. Of course, ESPN's NIT game is going into overtime.
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Indeed. This'll be the first full baseball game I've watched in almost 10 years. And technically still not going to be the first full one, either.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Cuba gives up two early runs. They pulled their first pitcher early, and they burned their two best in the semifinal (they are ineligible for today's game due to pitch count rules).
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Cuba's first batter knocked it out of the park for a nice run then the next two go down going into the 2nd inning.
