For those of you who don't know, I'm half black, half latino, and on my mothers side(the black side) one of my cousins actually attends Duke, and he told me most of the the white students there are very racist and the racism there has been ignored for years.

 

Now I know if these were 3 black players, and 1 white stripper, the outrage would be bigger then it is now. Yes the lady is a stripper, but she also attends college and is a single mother. She has to resort to stripping to put food on her childs table, so in no way does she deserves the type of rape and punishment that she endured. Hopefully the DNA tests will prove it.

 

I'm mostly interested Princess Leena's comments on this subject.

I would've heard SOMETHING tangible when I was working with the Georgia Board of Regents and traveling to ACC schools to work with them on technological requirement legislation.

What your cousin says, while good and all, doesn't pass as fact in my book. It's hearsay, and dangerous hearsay at that. The way rumors and inneudo get started and passed off as fact (see: New Orleans) makes me very cautious to believe anything people say.

 

I understand that they made players give DNA tests. I understand that she has physical signs of sexual trauma. So we can say that she had sex. We can't say who she had sex with, or whether it was consentual or not, until that evidence comes in, which I have no doubt it will.

 

Getting worked up over it until then its just a waste of energy.

 

EDIT: I'm particularly careful in cases of rape. A friend of mine was accused of raping a girl. He was beaten up a few days later and sent to the hospital, had death threats, and thrown out of school.

In the end, the girl broke down in the courtroom under cross-examination and admitted she wasn't raped, but it was consentual, but she lied to her parents about it and just kept lying.

 

Meanwhile, my friend still has the stigma of people now wondering to this day if he raped a girl or not, even though he was proven innocent.

Yeah, you find that racist shit all over. I went to school in the south, in New Orleans (Tulane). I was in a frat. We were one of two frats out of like, 9, that had both whites and blacks. We had hispanics, Indian kids, whoever was smart and wanted to chill. So then of course, my frat got really popular, and got taken over by a bunch of white-cap wearing faggots, oh so I hear.

 

The best thing ever was when the biggest, most racist frat picked on a young black football player. The football team was quite mixed, and they stood up and beat their asses.

 

There were a couple of frats that were fucking deep south at Tulane. Wouldn't even let non-white kids into their parties.

It's gotten plenty of coverage and is being treated very seriously. No less seriously than it would be if it were three white guys raping a white woman, or three black guys raping a black woman, or three people of three different races raping a mixed-woman.

There isn't an exact case to compare it to, there's no "apples for apples" comparisons. So to say that it'd be a bigger story is an opinion and shouldn't be stated as a fact. Yes, the media tends to hype the "missing white woman" cases more than when minorities are missing, but the sad truth is the "missing white woman" cases draw a larger audience, and thus make more money for the news agency. A case like this is money for the news agency regardless of the color of the perps skin. A major sports program, which Duke LAX is, having an incident like this is huge news.

And I think Angel's comment about the black guy was based on the fact that of the 47 person team, 46 were white ... and thus the question of what he was up to. In addendum, since I have more time: The Duke LAX program has had less legal issues than Nebraska football, or Miami (FL) football, or FSU football ... any and all of those programs are more worthy of reprimand than Duke LAX. And more than any of them is Colorado football. They deserve to be reprimanded most of all. Unless, of course, this rape case turns out to be an encouraged act by the LAX program.
