devo 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Mets get out of a bases loaded, no-out jam to maintain their 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh. Pedro looks a LOT better than he did in his first start, thankfully.

devo 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 MASN Announcer: "Well, we didn't want Pedro to be beaned. That's a little extreme!" If that's the case, then maybe you shouldn't have shown that moron's crudely made sign, in which the words "Bean Pedro" are spelled out in a barely-intelligible scrawl. Idiots. Guest Smues Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Two 1-2-3 innings in a row by a Braves relief pitcher. Chuck James, I salute you!
devo 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Wagner has his best outing thus far and gets the save for the Mets. His fastball was hitting 99 MPH...maybe his injured middle finger isn't bothering him as much as I feared.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 More and more I am thinking I am going to have to make a trip to Reading to see Hamels when he comes up. What he is doing is just stupid in Clearwater (11 IP, 5 hits, 2 BBs/16Ks, no runs). Plus I need to see the greatness of Tim Moss right now (14Ks in 22ABs with a nice .000 BA). There's some impressive early season lines on that club. Michael Bourn has reached base eight times and stolen eight bases. Scott Mathieson has allowed nine of sixteen baserunners to score. devo 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Damn, Beltran just hit one even further than he did two days ago, nearly reaching RFK's right field seats. 1-0 Mets. Edit: Not a minute later, David Wright wallops a 2-run homer to left field, only for Cliff Floyd to follow THAT up with a massive shot to right center. This is great. 4-0 Mets. naiwf 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Shit, I just got in and missed 3 Met homers. Ah well, I guess I'll catch the highlights. It's hard to believe one Wagner pitch aside they'd be 7-0 after last year's debacle out of the starting gate. I think this has been their most dominating performance as it's now 13-3. Joey Eischen is definitely taking one for the team.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 I can't be the only one thinking the Mets 7-1 record is a bit misleading. You can't take anything for granted, but they've only played the Nats and Marlins; two of the worst teams in the NL. I'll reserve judgment for when they play some contenders. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 That's the same thing the Astros have done. People here are getting a little too excited about them going 5-2, at home, against the Marlins and Nats.
mike546 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Just got home from school and noticed RJ went only 5 innings and threw only 87 pitches. Was he injured?
KingPK 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Apparently not. I seem to remember that Joe's pulled his Johnson (heh) early a couple times last year for seemingly no reason as well.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted April 13, 2006 According to the announcers he wasn't injured. They were playing it off as just getting him some rest since it is early in the year and he is 40 something years old and the team was up 4-1 over the Royals. Damon hit his first homerun as a Yankee today as well. Yankees move to 5-4 to start the season.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Shit, Carlos Lee jumped up and took away a walk off homerun from Jaun Encarnacion. Just when he was starting to get going, too.

You can't take anything for granted, but they've only played the Nats and Marlins; two of the worst teams in the NL. I'll reserve judgment for when they play some contenders. Considering their abysmal start to last season, any rational Mets fan would take a 7-1 start even if it was against AA teams. There are no negatives to be had if we can put early pressure on the Phils (5 GB) & Braves (3.5 GB). Randy should be able to get some rest without going just 5 innings considering that the Yankees have like 4 off days in April and won't even need a 5th starter until April is almost over if I'm not mistaken. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Shit, Carlos Lee jumped up and took away a walk off homerun from Jaun Encarnacion. Just when he was starting to get going, too. And then he made another jumping catch near the wall to save the game with runners at the corners. Lending credibility to the adage about making a great defensive play and then batting in the next inning, Lee homers to lead off the top of the next inning off Izzy.
