Kansas and Foreigner

Recommended Posts

I'll admit I have a soft spot, well, more like a deep appreciation for 70's progressive/arena rock acts like Kansas and Foreigner. I know from a critical standpoint they might not carry much respect but fuck the haters. I know people on this board appreciate "Carry On, Wayward Son", "Dust in the Wind", "Point of Know Return" and "Feels Like the First Time", "Long, Long Way From Home", "Double Vision". So let your voices be heard...

...and be a Juke Box Hero...

I like the little bit of Kansas I've heard, and I think Alf is a fan of them as well, he uses one of their songs(or 3) for his OAOAST entrance theme. I haven't really heard much Foreigner. Are they the ones who did that song that goes "I want to know what love is"?

I can not stand Kansas, and I thought Dust in the Wind was a Moody Blues song.

Foreinger is awesome, as Jukebox Hero was our hockey team name.

Moody Blues aren't THAT bad once you cut the most obvious layer of pretense out of the equation. On the Threshold of a Dream ain't half-bad, and it's not overblown as Days of Future Passed.

Foreigner Waiting for a girl like you. Great song. The lead singer had one of the best voices I have ever heard for a rock group.

Foreigner is awesome. They have a new lead singer now but Lou Gramm has the "Lou Gramm Band" that he tours with.

I'll be seeing Foreigner FOR FREE at this year's Ribfest.

I like both bands, Foreigner more than Kansas, but "Dust in the Wind" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Kansas I've only followed thru their greatest hits album ("Point of Know Return" and "Carry On Wayward Son" are faves) and as a matter of fact I liked their late-80s release Power, which had the mushy "All I Wanted" and the underrated "Can't Cry Anymore" and "Power".

Foreigner I'm more familiar with. "Waiting For a Girl Like You" is a must for those tapes/CDs you make for those special ladies, and it's also a favorite of mine along with "Urgent" and "Feels Like the First Time." I also have a soft spot for "That Was Yesterday" and of course "I Want To Know What Love Is." And kudos to Lou Gramm who managed to have a somewhat decent solo career with terrific songs like "Midnight Blue."

Kansas had some good songs, which have been mentioned. Foreigner isn't as good, but I like to hammer out the opening bars of "Cold As Ice" on the piano just as much as anyone else.

I'll be going to see Foreigner and Peter Frampton on the same bill this year at the state fair here in DE. That should be an interesting little show, that is if it holds up. I've heard it's not 100% confirmed just yet but all signs point to it being set.
