Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 It's the end of the school year and all of us(mostly) college students know about the gruesome agony of the night before the finals. I usually just shut out the world around me. I put the away message up, I mute the tv if there is some sporting event on that i need to keep tabs on (the nba in this case), turn off the lights, light a couple candles and put on some quiet but not too quiet music. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 DJ Shadow, The Go! Team, Mike Patton & the Dillinger Escape Plan. Lots of stuff that's busy and interesting but largely lyric-free, or at least fuzzy. Keeps you from nodding off but doesn't distract you too much. I also get a lot of mileage out of albums I know by heart. Purple Rain is good for 45 strong minutes of work. Also, try the Orb, some Portishead, some Mick Harris solo projects (Scorn, Lull), Pink Floyd's Echoes and Obscured by Clouds, Brian Eno's ambient work, Cabaret Voltaire's 90's techno albums, and Tangerine Dream. I'm not even a big fan of them, but that might change. I'm totally loving all the different sounds on the CDs and it made my day in my office relaxing. Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Brian Eno, Christopher O'Riley's Radiohead interpretations*, Cabaret Voltaire, Feel Good Lost, Tindersticks, Neu!, Erik Satie, and Claude Debussy is what I have planned. *Why does everyone rip on O'Riley's stuff? He does a good job of arranging the stuff for solo piano. If it's some idea that Thom Yorke's work cannot be touched by others, that's bullshit. "Thinking About You" is way cooler on piano. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Felonies, Memphis was a shithole town, but I was only there for 2 days. 311 Day was great, lots of pot, great atmosphere, cool fans, the works. Beale Street is one of the few not "super ghetto" areas in Memphis. When we rolled up at 7 AM it looked like 28 Days Later, just random people wandering around the empty streets every few minutes.
