Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 $71.95 + service fees when they come to Toronto. That's insane. That's U2-level bad.
cbacon 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 Yeah, that's pretty insane. Still, gonna try and get tickets this Saturday morning. I can sorta jusfity paying that much for a band like Radiohead. And it's at the Hummingbird Center, which apparently seats around 3,000.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 I was prepared to go in the 50-60 range because that's what I paid last time but there's no way I can justify this. That's two UFC PPV's.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 I'm not the biggest concert expert but does smaller venue = higher liklihood of a price hike? I guess in the case of "big bands" it is.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 i can't say there is a living band worthy of that price tag. let alone such a boring band. i don't know how it could be fun to see them live.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 They are fun live, but I think they could be a lot more fun. The best material comes from two places: when they play really energetic mid-90s hits like "Just" or even "Creep," and, on the more complex side, any of the material off Kid A and Amnesiac. Songs like "Everything In Its Right Place" or "The National Anthem" or "I Might Be Wrong" are absolutely masterworks to behold live. Those songs grow and breathe in ways that I never thought they could; their general coldness on CD is totally recalibrated, and you end up with huge, exciting, synthy, exploratory jams. Unfortunately, I caught them on the Hail to the Thief tour, which meant that half the songs played were off that album. And while those are generally pretty good songs, they were played very by the book. They also stopped between each song, and I felt they could have gotten a lot more out of a more continuous set list. Â I'm half surprised you find Radiohead boring, Banky, but then I think about what I know of your tastes and I'm not that surprised. But I'll be really surprised if you don't at least like The Bends, because as many have said many times over, everyone should like that album. So good! Annabelle 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 i can't get past his voice. don't think i ever will. i do like fake plastic trees, though. but still...that voice. in high school i really liked both the bends & ok computer. but that has slowly dissapated throughout the years. after ok computer, i don't like them at all. just electronic noise. which is fine in its own right, but i sorta resent how they've become demigods via such ungodly music. ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 It sucks, but this is the way free market works. Supply and demand will dictate the prices of these things in a pretty straightforward manner. Even when you factor in Ticketmaster' kick-you-in-the-nuts 'service fees' and scalping, the fact that people pay these prices for shows means the price will get there. Unless you know, the artist really cares enough to reduce the price and their managment will let them get away with it. Â The fact that enough idiots will pay $300 for (non scalped) tickets to see Madonna ENSURES that Madonna tickets will be $300.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Just want to echo that "Everything In Its Right Place" is much better in its live form. That or "Idioteque" is the best adaptation of an electronic song.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 why are they charging service fees to people to go see their concert?
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Ticketmaster always charges service fees. Some of the charge is linked to Ticketmaster itself, some to the individual venues.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 You'd think that some of the service-fees could go towards a little K-Y for the anus pounding.

k thx 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 High ticket prices = less likely to be bought by touts and more chance for hardcore fans to buy them. Â I'm seeing Radiohead at a festival in Paris this year. Radiohead, Morrisey, DJ Shadow, Broken Social Scene and a bunch of others. And the tickets are less than $100. Which is chicken feed when other festivals cost the equivalent of $300.
