The Mets are now down to a 2 game lead in the division, and we've got Jeremi Gonzalez on tap for tomorrow baby! I'll go with next Saturday being the day we officially lose the lead.

That's keepin' the faith!

It's so weird seeing Brad Lidge pitch in the 7th again. It's like I fell back three years in time.

With automatic losses at the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation we can't lose games that Pedro & Trachsel start, especially to teams like Philly as we did this week. Oh yeah, and we've got the Cards, Yankees and Phillies after this series in Milwaukee. We could very easily go 4-7 or worse in the next 11.

The Mets (sans Delgado and Beltran) are going back to their old ways and swinging at anything and everything. The plate discipline the team showed the first 2 or 3 weeks of the season seems to be gone. Doesn't help that Jose Reyes seems to no longer be able to hit left handed. There was no way the Mets could play at the rate they were but the way they've been playing the last week is eerily reminiscent of the 2003-2005 debacles.

Well, the good ol' days weren't always good. Tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems.

Edit: And all of a sudden, the Mets score two runs in the top of the ninth. Down by three with two men on and two outs. I'm not getting my hopes up (especially with Turnbow now coming in, since it's a SAVE SITUATION~!), but this is pretty interesting to watch regardless.

I'm glad that Scully made the trip up to Frisco. If Barry hits the HR's he needs to tie and pass Ruth, I want him to call one of them.

Well, the 'Stros won at home tonite, pushing thier home record to a ML leading 15-4. Seeing Lidge pitch in the 7th was really weird live, as he usually comes out to a video and Drowning Pool's "The Game" when he comes in to close in the ninth, and it was just weird seeing him come out to it in the 7th, but, he had a 123 inning for the first time in forever, so that's progress. According to Phil Garner, Lidge is gonna be pitching earlier in ballgames for a while to build his confidence back. Either Qualls or Wheeler's gonna close, hopefully Qualls. He's on my fantasy team and has better stuff.

Oh, and I didn't see the game, but I saw highlights...what was Michael Barret so pissed off about vis a vis Dave Roberts?

Grady Little took Penny out a little too soon. They could have gotten at least another inning out of him, maybe two. Something tells me LA's gonna pay for it.

The Cubbies are 2-10 this month. Holla.

I hope the Pirates can sneak ahead of them.

He's an uber sensitive bitch. It's not certain, but Brenley suspected it stemmed from last Monday, when Roberts swiped third late in a game the Padres clearly had under control. He was plunked to lead off the game, which probably had more to do with Angel Guzman being terrified of throwing near the plate than anything else. In the five-run inning today that turned the game into a wash, Roberts was on second and stole third.

I guess Barrett thought it was unnecessary, so when he eventually scored, Barrett said something to him. Roberts, who was already well past the plate, turned around and looked a bit surprised. Brian Giles and the ump got in the middle before it escalated, but as the umps huddled to decide what to do, Barret started yapping (again) at the Padres dugout. I guess we'll ignore none of this happens if Barrett manages to throw out a baserunner for once. A lot of the fans liked that one of the players was showing some signs of life, but to me, it was unnecessary pissing and moaning that has come to define the organization. I'm as big a fan as anyone, but it kills me to see constant excuse-making and crying about things not going their way, instead of addressing the piss-poor fundamentals and offensive patience that has plagued this team the last several years.

Michael Barret does seem like a bitch. I remember the Barret/Oswalt deal in 2004. That was hilarious. Well, I guess if the team won't win, they gotta at least do something to make the fans wanna come back.

Barrett played for my local A Ball team the first year they were here when they were an Expos affiliate for 1 year before becoming an O's affiliate.

Thats what, 10 years ago..damn.

Fun fact, Javier Vazquez and Orlando Cabrera also played on that team as well.

So with Pierre actually getting a walk to lead off the inning, Dusty has Cedeno lay down a bunt...with PIAZZA catching. Why not let Pierre get the easy steal and then utilize your three outs to get that runner in from second? God, I hate the sac bunt.

With Maddux throwing down, it will hopefully not be a big deal. The Padres just scored their first run, though, so that extra run would've been nice. Of course, the run doesn't score if Castilla doesn't get to second on ANOTHER stupid defensive blunder by Jacque Jones.

Bruce Bochy bails the Cubs out by taking out his hottest hitter (Dave Roberts) with two on in a two-run game, just because Dusty brought in the lefty. Thankfully, the pinch-hitter grounds into an inning-ending DP.

But lesson not learned, as Jones gets on first (and then to second on an error) to lead off the 8th and he has Hairston bunt him over, leaving it up to NEIFI and the BACKUP CATCHER to get the job done. Naturally, it's still a two-run game.

And watching the Yankees game, Mr. Clutch almost cost them that game totally booting what should've been an easy DP, resulting in runners at the corners with no outs. Lucky for him, Eric Chavez was ass today and Dan Johnson's Dan Johnson.

And naturally, Ryan Dempster gives up a three-run homer in the top of the 9th. Good thing we didn't need either one of those insurance runs; small ball rules!

What's even tougher to take is John Mabry pinch-hitting in the ninth against Hoffman when Matt Murton's on the bench. But he isn't a lefty, so he could never get a hit off of him, right? Fuck Dusty.

Looking ahead at Monday's Lakewood/Delmarva game, the Shorebirds have a pitching prospect named Brandon Erbe whose turn comes up that day. Erbe's just 18 but he's dominating the Midwest League, after dominating the Appalachian League last year. He could be a MAJOR pitching prospect in the near future.

I'm driving down. It's actually closer for me to go to Philly than go to Lakewood's home park. My goal this year is to see five different Phillies teams. I can accomplish Batavia by catching a road game at Williamsport.
