ECW gets a normal time slot

Recommended Posts

The Sci-Fi Network is preparing a press release that will be released once either Vince or Linda McMahon approve the wording. It is expected to be released within the next week, possibly before Raw on Monday, and unless there is a late change, ECW will start on the network with a weekly time slot in mid-to-late June.

How big is the Sci-Fi Network? Does it get to many homes? No mention of what the time slot will be either.

Well we get the sci-fi network in North Dakota, but I am not sure how many people truly get the network.

Well since it is the sci-fi network the Boogyman would fit perfectly on there. I wonder what the time slot would be.

This really adds to the credibility of a wrestling fed. We're so underground we follow Stargate the series! I suppose it gets them on TV at least.

I'd like to think Boogeyman will be kept far, far away from ECW.

Sci-Fi Network is part of just about every major cable carrier's basic cable package. It's on par with Spike and USA Network.

I wonder what the time slot will be though?

I was joking about Boogyman showing up in ECW. In fact I hope he is off tv for ever.

Unless he comes in, takes his Caning like a man, and leaves shortly thereafter.

That works for me.

I expect him to be part of the promotion for the movie "How to eat Fried Worms"..

And, just for the hell of it, from PWInsider:

WWE's revival of Extreme Championship Wrestling has secured a weekly timeslot on the Sci-Fi Channel, according to a report by the Wrestling Observer website. According to the report, ECW would debut in mid or late June, unless there are late changes.

PWInsider.com has independently confirmed with an NBC Universal source that negotiations are ongoing for an ECW time slot but the source believed that a final decision on whether ECW would air on Sci-Fi or the USA Network (both of which are owned by NBC Universal) had not been made.

The Observer report indicates an official press release would be coming within the next week.

At one point, Sci-Fi had a 2 hour special scheduled for 5/30. That special is no longer listed internally with their programming department.

I think this is pretty good news for ECW getting a time slot on a fairly big cable station. I think something like a Wednesday night slot from like 10-12 or something a long those lines would suit them well and I think if they do this right could bring in ratings somewhere between 1.5 and 2 which would have to be considered a pretty decent success considering the ratings TNA has been getting and the relative down time of wrestling right now.

Now the next thing the WWE has to figure out is when to tape it. Taping it before Smackdown to me is not a good idea because it isn't going to give ECW a unique feel. Bring it back to smaller arenas around the Northeast and some of the stable regions in the Midwest. Doing a tape on a Saturday night every 2 weeks or so would be a great idea in my opinion.

I expected they would end up on Sci Fi Channel. It's own by NBC Universal which also owns USA Network...

They also run Bravo although I dont think wrestling fits in on Bravo.

I cant wait for the taglines..

ECW on SCI FI...no you won't see Captain Kirk battle Darth Vader in a steel cage match..

When you consider the type of movies shown on Sci-Fi, movies with alot of gore, this may be great for ECW as they may not need to tone down their content as much as they would need to if they were on another channel. Presentation will be the key as I could really care less what channel carries the show.

Even though people want the WWE logo away from ECW, there will need to be tons of advertising on Raw and SD about ECW on Sci Fi. The only way they will be able to get any ratings.

Sci-Fi had Tripping the Rift (maybe still does, I don't know), which was TV-MA for sexual raunchiness. They probably don't have a problem with anything outside of a Taipei Death Match, which should never be resurrected anyway.

Sci-Fi...

WHAT?!

It makes as much sense as Battlebots on Comedy Central or Cartoon Network showing live action movies.

Par for the course, I guess.

As long as they don't mess with the sweet Saturday Night Sci-Fi original movies time slot I'll be happy. Although nothing in those time slots goes over 2 **'s so maybe ECW will be a good fit.

Or Saved by the Bell on Adult Swim.

Sci-Fi seems kind of a dark corner of Cable though, where all the freaks get sent. Not really a wrestling base.

I'll call you crazy for suggesting that any Sci-Fi original movie rates above a turkey.
